The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Yes—but only in the right configuration. The Bambu Lab H2D is an enclosed dual-nozzle FDM 3D printer that can also support diode-laser engraving and cutting, blade cutting, and pen plotting. Those extra functions are not included with every H2D, and they do not make it a universal replacement for a Cricut, a dedicated laser, or several specialist machines.
The H2D’s real advantage is workflow consolidation: one large machine can produce printed parts, engraved panels, cut templates, plotted drawings and prototype packaging. Its disadvantage is that you pay for, store and learn a complex multi-tool platform even if you mainly need only one function.

What the Bambu H2D actually is
The H2D is best understood as a premium desktop fabrication workstation rather than simply a larger Bambu printer. Its core machine is an enclosed CoreXY FDM printer with two nozzles on one toolhead. With the appropriate configuration or upgrade hardware, it can also use a laser module, blade cutter and pen holder.

| Configuration | What it includes | Launch pricing or current signal |
|---|---|---|
| H2D base | 3D printer, build plate, spool holder and accessory box | $1,899 US launch MSRP; the H2 series page currently shows the H2D from $1,999 |
| H2D AMS Combo | Base printer plus AMS 2 Pro | $2,199 US launch MSRP |
| 10W Laser Full Combo | AMS 2 Pro, 10W laser, cutting module, laser platform, cutting platform and emergency stop | $2,799 US launch MSRP |
| 40W Laser Full Combo | Broadly the same multi-tool package with the 40W laser module | $3,499 US launch MSRP |
The launch prices above were announced on March 25, 2025. Bambu’s current US H2 series page lists the H2D from $1,999, but prices, promotions, regional availability and upgrade-kit options can change. Check the current H2 series page and the live H2D store collection before ordering.
The base and AMS configurations should be treated primarily as 3D printers. The Laser Full Combo is the relevant purchase if you specifically want the laser, blade and pen workflows included from the outset. An upgrade path may be available for some configurations, but confirm the exact kit, platform and safety hardware required for your region and machine.
The H2D as a 3D printer
The printing hardware is still the foundation of the product. The H2D has an enclosed aluminum-and-steel CoreXY chassis, a maximum nozzle temperature of 350°C and a maximum build-plate temperature of 120°C. Bambu lists support for common materials such as PLA, PETG, TPU, PVA/BVOH, ABS, ASA, PC, PA, PET and several fiber-reinforced materials, subject to material-specific limitations.
Build volume
- Single-nozzle printing: 325 × 320 × 325 mm.
- Dual-nozzle printing: 300 × 320 × 325 mm.
- Total single-nozzle envelope listed by Bambu: 350 × 320 × 325 mm.
The important qualification is that the largest usable envelope is not available in exactly the same way for every dual-nozzle job. Dual-nozzle printing reduces the available width, so the H2D is not simply a large full-width printer whenever both nozzles are involved.
The machine is also physically substantial. Tom’s Hardware reported an approximate footprint of 492 × 514 × 626 mm. Allow additional room for access, ventilation, the AMS, platforms and storage for the extra modules.
Why two nozzles matter
The second nozzle is useful for more than two-colour models. It can assign separate materials to the model and support structure—for example, a build filament with soluble or breakaway support. In some workflows, it can also reduce purge waste because the printer can avoid repeatedly changing filament through a single nozzle.
The nozzles use a clasp-and-magnet arrangement intended to make replacement easier than dealing with a conventional wired hotend assembly. However, dual nozzles do not automatically make every print faster. Materials may require different temperatures, drying conditions and enclosure settings, and the current slicer may impose restrictions on which nozzle sizes can be combined in one job. Confirm the limitation in the current Bambu Studio release before planning a mixed-nozzle workflow.

The H2D’s AMS 2 Pro is a four-spool material-management system with drying and storage functions. Tom’s Hardware reported drying up to 65°C for the AMS 2 Pro and up to 85°C for the single-spool AMS HT. AMS compatibility still does not mean every filament is suitable for AMS feeding; difficult or abrasive materials may require a different loading arrangement.
What the laser module can really do
The laser configuration turns the H2D into a compact diode-laser system for engraving and selected cutting jobs. It is not equivalent to a CO2 laser, industrial cutter or unrestricted workshop laser.
Engraving
Engraving is the more broadly useful laser function. Depending on the material and settings, the H2D can mark wood, coated surfaces and other compatible materials. Typical applications include signs, labels, decorative panels, templates, product markings and small workshop components.
Cutting
Cutting performance depends on the laser’s wattage, material composition, thickness, focus, speed, power, number of passes, airflow, extraction and surface flatness. The 40W module is the more capable cutting option, but it is not simply a faster 10W laser. It may handle a wider range of suitable sheet materials or require fewer passes, while still being limited by the material itself and by safe operating requirements.
Do not buy the H2D on the assumption that it will cut any sheet material you place inside it. Consult the current official laser documentation for permitted materials and operating guidance. Never improvise a material-safety list from generic laser advice.

Platforms, alignment and safety
Laser work uses a dedicated laser platform rather than the normal heated print plate. The Laser Combo also includes safety glazing, an emergency-stop button and a bird’s-eye camera intended to help with material placement and alignment.
Camera alignment reduces setup friction; it does not remove the need to check origin, scale, focus, material position and toolpath. Laser work also needs appropriate extraction and fire precautions. Never treat the enclosure or camera monitoring as permission to leave a laser job unattended. Follow Bambu’s current manual, local fire-safety requirements and ventilation guidance.
Is the H2D a Cricut competitor?
It is a Cricut competitor by use case, not a like-for-like replacement. The H2D’s blade module can perform Cricut-style 2D cutting on compatible materials, including paper, card, stencils, labels, decals and some thin sheet craft materials. The pen holder can add drawn lines, lettering, outlines and decorative details.
The blade tool and pen holder use a dedicated cutting or plotting platform. Tom’s Hardware described the platform as a sticky metal cutting plate. The exact material limits, adhesion requirements, blade settings and supported accessories should be checked against current documentation rather than assumed from the fact that the tool can physically cut a sample.
Where a Cricut is likely better
- Routine paper, card, vinyl, sticker and garment-decoration work.
- Beginners who want a focused 2D craft workflow.
- Users who value a mature library of ready-made projects, templates, materials and accessories.
- Workshops that need a cutter permanently set up while another machine prints.
A Cricut Maker-class machine is designed around accessible 2D crafting. The H2D is designed first as a fabrication platform and adds blade cutting as one mode among several. It is much larger, more expensive and more complex.
Where the H2D makes more sense
- You already need serious enclosed 3D printing.
- You also want laser engraving or occasional laser cutting.
- You make prototypes, packaging, signage, jigs, props or small-batch products.
- You value one integrated positioning and software ecosystem more than the lowest price for cutting.
- Workshop space is limited and several separate machines would be impractical.
Do not assume that H2D files, mats, roll handling, consumables, project libraries or software work exactly like Cricut Design Space. The comparison is about overlapping outcomes, not guaranteed accessory or file compatibility.

What can the pen plotter do?
The pen holder is a useful secondary tool rather than a general-purpose writing machine. It can draw vector-style lines, lettering, outlines, diagrams and decorative patterns. You could plot a design onto paper, add pen-drawn details to a cut sheet or convert clean digital artwork into line-based output.
It is not a handwriting robot and it is not an inkjet printer. Results depend on pen shape, ink flow, paper texture, pressure, artwork preparation and calibration. Pen diameter and holder compatibility can change with the current accessory range, so verify those details before buying pens specifically for the H2D.
Which software is involved?
Bambu Studio
Bambu Studio is the relevant environment for 3D-print preparation, printer and AMS management, multi-material assignment, camera monitoring and H2D-specific dual-nozzle workflows.
Bambu Suite
The non-printing tools add a graphics-oriented workflow through Bambu Suite. Tom’s Hardware describes it as the application used to turn artwork into machine instructions for laser, blade and pen jobs.
Software labels, supported file types, firmware requirements and menu locations can change. Before publishing or purchasing, check the current application release and manual for the exact formats and controls you need. Also consider whether your desired workflow depends on cloud access, LAN operation, developer-related networking options or a specific firmware version.
The integrated ecosystem is convenient, but it can be less flexible than specialist laser software or the highly craft-focused experience associated with Cricut Design Space. Check whether Bambu Suite supports the artwork formats and production steps already used in your workshop.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →What changing modes is really like
The hardware may make tool changes relatively straightforward, but switching modes is not frictionless. You still need to change platforms, install the correct module, load suitable material, select the matching software operation and store everything when finished.
- Choose the operation: 3D printing, laser work, blade cutting or pen plotting.
- Install the appropriate tool module or attachment.
- Install the matching work surface: PEI print plate, laser platform or cutting/plotting platform.
- Load material suitable for that operation and confirm its thickness and compatibility.
- Prepare the file in Bambu Studio or Bambu Suite.
- Use the camera-assisted placement process where available.
- Preview origin, scale, orientation, working area and toolpath.
- Run a small test where appropriate, especially for unfamiliar laser, blade or pen materials.
- Stay nearby during operation, particularly during laser work.
- Inspect and clean the work area before storing the platform or changing modes.
The practical drawback is storage. You need a safe place for platforms, modules, blades, pens, materials and any extraction or filtration equipment. Tom’s Hardware identified the additional-part storage burden as a real ownership consideration.

The laser does not cut through
Possible causes include unsuitable or overly thick material, incorrect focus, excessive speed, insufficient power, warping, inadequate airflow or the need for multiple passes.
- Stop and check for heat damage or fire risk.
- Confirm the material against the official documentation.
- Recheck focus, height, position and settings.
- Test a small swatch before repeating the full job.
- Do not respond by increasing power indefinitely.
The blade tears or drags the material
A dull blade, poor adhesion, excessive force, material that is too thick or overly intricate artwork can all cause tearing. Inspect or replace the blade, secure the material to the correct platform, simplify tiny details and test a small piece first.

The plotter produces poor lines
A dry or poorly seated pen, loose paper, unsuitable fills or unclean vector paths can cause skips and uneven lines. Use a compatible rigid-tip pen, secure the paper, convert artwork to clean paths and test line weight and ink flow before a long plot.
Switching modes creates setup errors
The usual causes are the wrong tool selected in software, the wrong platform installed, a mismatched material profile, incorrect camera alignment or residue left on the work surface. Remove the previous platform, install the correct one, verify the physical material against the software selection and run a small alignment or test job.
One H2D versus several specialist machines
The H2D’s purchase price is only part of the comparison. Also consider blades, pens, platforms, filters, replacement parts, ventilation, storage and the time required to change modes.
| Primary workload | Likely better fit |
|---|---|
| Functional parts and multi-material printing | H2D, particularly if the dual nozzles matter |
| Occasional engraving plus 3D printing | H2D Laser Combo |
| Mostly paper, vinyl, labels and cards | Dedicated Cricut-style cutter |
| Mostly laser engraving and cutting | Dedicated enclosed diode-laser system |
| Several jobs running at once | Separate machines may be more productive |
| Limited space and genuinely mixed projects | H2D has its strongest case |
| Lowest-cost route to occasional craft work | Lower-cost specialist tools |
One H2D can save floor space and setup duplication, but separate machines can remain set up simultaneously. A Cricut can cut while a 3D printer runs; a dedicated laser can be optimized for laser throughput. “All-in-one” is a convenience and space argument, not proof that the machine is cheaper or faster for every workload.
Recommended Free Tools

Alternatives worth considering
Bambu H2S
The H2S is the closer H2-series alternative for buyers who want the broader creative-tool ecosystem but do not need the H2D’s dual-nozzle system. Bambu’s US H2 page lists it from $1,249. It should not be treated as merely an H2D with one nozzle; its printing architecture and capabilities differ. See the H2 series overview for the current comparison.
Cricut Maker series
The Cricut Maker 3 is the more focused choice for vinyl, paper, cards, labels and related 2D projects. It does not provide enclosed FDM printing or integrated laser engraving, but that may be an advantage if those functions are irrelevant to you.
xTool S1
The xTool S1 is a dedicated enclosed diode-laser alternative for buyers whose priority is laser work. Compare its exact wattage, work area, accessories, material guidance and current price with the H2D configuration you are considering.
Glowforge Aura
The Glowforge Aura is another dedicated craft-laser option that may suit beginners seeking a guided laser workflow. It is not an integrated 3D printer, and work area, software model, material policy and ventilation requirements should be compared directly.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSnapmaker Artisan
The Snapmaker Artisan is a conceptual competitor because it also targets multifunction desktop fabrication. Compare more than the number of tools: assess printing technology, laser power, enclosure design, CNC capability, software, work area, changeover time, support and total ownership cost. Tom’s Hardware identifies Snapmaker Artisan as a relevant comparator and discusses the H2D’s automated leveling and tool-change workflow.
Verdict
The Bambu H2D really can combine dual-nozzle 3D printing with laser engraving and cutting, blade cutting and pen plotting—but only when you buy the configuration and attachments that provide those functions.
It is a strong choice for a space-conscious maker, designer or small workshop that will genuinely move between several fabrication methods. It is a poor-value choice for someone who mainly wants to cut vinyl and paper, or someone who primarily needs a laser. For those buyers, a Cricut-style cutter or dedicated laser is likely simpler and more economical.
Think of the H2D as a premium integrated fabrication workstation. Its selling point is not that it is the best specialist machine in every category. Its selling point is that it can bring several useful capabilities into one enclosed Bambu workflow.
