The 5 Best Budget and Cheap Vacuums of 2026

The Kenmore Intuition Bagged Upright Vacuum is the best budget vacuum overall for most homes because it combines strong carpet cleaning, useful above-floor tools, brushroll control, and HEPA-grade filtration. It is not the cheapest or lightest option, however. The right pick depends on what you clean: choose the Wyze Cordless Vacuum S for portable whole-home cleaning, the BLACK+DECKER 16V MAX dustbuster cordless hand vacuum for small spills, the Eureka Mighty Mite 3670G for compact bare-floor cleaning, or the BISSELL PowerForce Helix 1700 for inexpensive carpet-focused upright cleaning.

This is a U.S.-focused home-vacuum guide. None of these models should be treated as a wet/dry shop vacuum or as a substitute for a properly rated dust extractor on construction sites, especially where silica, lead, asbestos, or other hazardous dust may be present.

Best budget vacuums at a glance

Budget should mean more than the lowest listing price. A genuinely good inexpensive vacuum needs to perform a credible job, remain maintainable, and suit the surfaces and messes in your home. These five models cover different jobs rather than pretending that a handheld, cordless stick, canister, and full-size upright are interchangeable.

BLACK+DECKER 16V MAX dustbuster cordless hand vacuum Small dry spills, furniture, stairs, and car interiors Handheld $49.99 for the identified HHVI315JO42 listing Short runtime and not a replacement for a full-size vacuum
Eureka Mighty Mite 3670G Bare floors, low-pile rugs, apartments, and compact storage Bagged canister $79.99 Basic filtration and weak embedded-pet-hair performance
BISSELL PowerForce Helix 1700 Low-cost, carpet-oriented upright cleaning Bagless upright No reliable current price in the product information reviewed Poor fine-particle containment and no brushroll shutoff

Prices are manufacturer-page observations from the research snapshot for this guide, not permanent 2026 prices. Sale status, retailer availability, colors, included tools, and model suffixes can change.

1. Kenmore Intuition Bagged Upright Vacuum BU4022: best budget vacuum overall

Best for: mixed flooring, carpet, pets, allergy-conscious households, and anyone who prefers to dispose of dust in a sealed bag rather than emptying a dirt cup.

#1 Best Overall

Eureka 3670M Canister Cleaner, Lightweight Powerful Vacuum for Carpets and Hard Floors, w/ 5bags,Yellow
  • Dust bag capacity is up to 2.5 liters. Lightweight & Lifetable Conveniently: The lightweight vacuum cleaner weights 8.6lbs. Allows you to carry it around the whole house.1200 watts. Specific uses: Carpet, Stair, Upholstery, Car, Floor
  • Whole Home Cleaning: The lightweight vacuum cleaner weights 8.6 lbs allows you to carry it around the entire house.
  • Powerful Cleaning: The 12-amps motor provides continuous, powerful suction for deep cleanings.
  • Messy-free Dust Bag Replacement: With the replaceable the dust bag, collect dust and pet hair easily
  • Clean More than Carpet: With 2 extension wands and 2 specialty attachments, this vacuum can easily dust furniture, reach high ceilings, get under car seats and in crevices and corners where traditional upright vacuums can’t reach.

The Kenmore Intuition Bagged Upright Vacuum is the strongest all-around choice in this group. RTINGS names the Kenmore Intuition Bagged its best budget vacuum based on its published testing. Its principal advantage is cleaning ability on carpet, but it is more versatile than a basic carpet upright: the floorhead has height adjustment, the roller brush can be switched off for hard floors, and the LED headlight helps reveal debris in dim areas.

Its Lift-Up Technology allows the pod to detach from the upright body for stairs, furniture, and other above-floor areas. The package also includes multiple above-floor tools, although the exact tools can vary by package, so check the specific BU4022 listing before buying. The model is also described with HEPA-grade filtration, making it the most compelling pick here for households that place a high value on dust containment.

Kenmore’s manufacturer listing observed for this guide showed a price of $179.99 for model BU4022. That is more than the cheapest options below, but it buys a more complete whole-home machine rather than a spot-cleaning appliance. The trade-off is ownership cost: the vacuum uses bags, so you will need to budget for replacements. Kenmore confirms compatibility for Kenmore Intuition replacement bags with BU4022 and other Intuition upright models.

What to watch for

  • It is not especially light or nimble. The upright feels bulkier than a cordless stick and may be tiring in homes with many stairs.
  • Some components feel fragile. The hose area and bag-release system deserve gentler handling than the sturdy-looking upright body might suggest.
  • Verify the package. Tools and included accessories can differ between listings that use the same model family name.
  • Account for bags. Bagged disposal is tidier for many users, but replacement bags are a continuing expense.

Bottom line: Buy the Kenmore if you want one inexpensive vacuum to handle carpets, hard floors, pet hair, stairs, and dust containment reasonably well. It is the best default recommendation, not the best choice for someone whose first priority is minimum weight or zero consumable costs.

2. Wyze Cordless Vacuum S: best budget cordless vacuum

Best for: apartments, stairs, cars, quick cleanups, and households that value cordless convenience more than deep carpet performance.

The Wyze Cordless Vacuum S is the best fit when getting the vacuum out quickly matters more than having the strongest carpet cleaner. It is light and portable, and its removable battery is a meaningful advantage over cordless models with a permanently attached power pack. Wyze lists the vacuum at 2.8 pounds, with 20,000 Pa maximum suction and a 40-minute interchangeable lithium-ion battery.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In RTINGS’ testing, the Cordless Vacuum S ran for almost 45 minutes in its most efficient mode. That figure and Wyze’s 40-minute specification are not contradictory: runtime depends on the selected power mode, floorhead, battery condition, and testing method. The practical benefit is enough low-power runtime for routine apartment cleaning or several quick sessions, rather than a promise of 40 minutes of maximum-power cleaning.

Its weaknesses are important. RTINGS found mediocre carpet performance, so this is not the cordless equivalent of a strong full-size upright. On bare floors, the brushroll can scatter larger particles instead of collecting them cleanly. The construction also feels inexpensive, which is a reasonable compromise at this price but a reason to handle the wand, bin, and attachments carefully.

Wyze’s product page observed for this guide listed a $119.99 sale price against a $193.99 comparison price. Prices and sale labels are volatile. Also make sure a listing is for the S model: Wyze’s support information says the original Wyze Cordless Vacuum and the Cordless Vacuum S do not share interchangeable batteries or chargers.

What to watch for

  • Do not compare 20,000 Pa directly with another vacuum’s number. Manufacturer suction figures are measured under varying conditions and do not predict real-world debris pickup as reliably as independent cleaning tests.
  • Use it for convenience cleaning. It is well suited to stairs, cars, crumbs, and frequent light passes, but thick carpet and deeply embedded debris call for a stronger full-size machine.
  • Expect bagless dust exposure. Emptying the dirt bin can release dust, particularly if it is packed with fine particles.
  • Check battery compatibility. The S and original Wyze Cordless Vacuum should not be assumed to use the same battery or charger.

Bottom line: Choose the Wyze when cordless portability is the feature you will use every day. Choose the Kenmore instead if carpet cleaning, pet hair, and filtration matter more than weight and convenience.

3. BLACK+DECKER 16V MAX dustbuster cordless hand vacuum: best budget handheld

Best for: countertops, sofas, stairs, car interiors, crumbs, and small dry spills.

Rank #2

Eureka Bagged Canister Vacuum Cleaner, 3670H w/ 2bags, 3670h-blue | Bagged Canister Vacuum, Vacuum Cleaner for Home, Power Suction, Lightweight, Vacuum for Hardwood Floor Carpet Pet Car 3670H
  • Dust cup capacity - 2.5 liters. Lightweight & Lifetable Conveniently: The lightweight vacuum cleaner at less than 9 lbs. Allows you to carry it around the whole house.Specific uses:Floor
  • Powerful Cleaning: The 12-amps motor provides continuous, powerful suction for deep cleanings
  • Blower Port: Conveniently blows away dirt and debris to clean garages and outdoor spaces easily
  • Multi-surface Cleaning Tools: A crevice tool, dual purpose dusting brush and upholstery nozzle to clean the hard-to-reach areas in your house
  • Messy-free Dust Bag Replacement: With the replaceable the dust bag, collected dust and pet hair can be easily cleaned without any touch with the messes

The BLACK+DECKER 16V MAX dustbuster cordless hand vacuum is a useful second vacuum, not a whole-home replacement. RTINGS identifies this 16V MAX dustbuster category as its best budget handheld because it performs particularly well on bare surfaces, stairs, and quick messes.

The official BLACK+DECKER product information reviewed for this guide identifies model HHVI315JO42 and lists a $49.99 price, a 400 ml dirt bowl, washable filter, wall mount, crevice tool, brush, and charger. It lists a 15-minute runtime and a 3-pound weight. RTINGS’ testing measured roughly 10 minutes of runtime and noted that the battery is not user-replaceable. The difference illustrates why manufacturer runtime and independent testing should be treated as separate figures rather than averaged into one promise.

There is a model-identification caution here. RTINGS’ recommendation uses the broader 16V MAX dustbuster name, while the manufacturer page identifies the closely related HHVI315JO42 SKU. Confirm the exact model number, voltage, attachments, and battery arrangement at the retailer before purchasing. A listing that uses a similar dustbuster name may not contain the same accessories.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to watch for

  • Runtime is short. It is designed for a few minutes of targeted cleaning, not a complete floor-by-floor session.
  • It is weak against embedded carpet debris. Use a full-size vacuum for carpet maintenance.
  • The battery is not user-replaceable according to RTINGS’ assessment. That limits long-term repairability compared with the Wyze’s removable battery.
  • Attachment coverage is modest. The listed crevice tool and brush cover common spot-cleaning jobs, but this is not a full accessory system.

For the identified HHVI315JO42 model, the manufacturer references the BLACK+DECKER VF110FC replacement filter. Match the filter to the exact model before ordering; dustbuster model families are not automatically interchangeable.

Bottom line: This is the inexpensive add-on to keep near the kitchen, workshop entrance, stairs, or vehicle. It is a poor choice if you need one appliance to clean an entire home.

4. Eureka Mighty Mite 3670G: best cheap compact canister

Best for: bare floors, low-pile rugs, small homes, apartments, and shoppers who want a simple corded vacuum that stores easily.

The Eureka Mighty Mite 3670G is the best value here for a particular kind of home: one dominated by hard floors and low-pile rugs, where compact storage and straightforward maintenance matter more than powered carpet agitation. RTINGS calls the Mighty Mite the best cheap vacuum it has tested, citing its compact bagged-canister design, portability, easy maintenance, and strong bare-floor performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 3670G listing reviewed from Eureka specifies a 10-amp motor, 1,200-watt motor rating, 2.5-liter bag capacity, 20-foot cord, 11-foot extended reach, 8.6-pound weight, and washable filters. Eureka listed a manufacturer price of $79.99 for that version. The model uses a straight-suction floorhead rather than a powered brushroll. With the bristles retracted, RTINGS found it capable on low- and medium-pile carpet, but it is less effective at removing pet hair embedded in carpet.

Filtration is the principal limitation. The basic filtration system is not the choice for an allergy-focused household, and the Mighty Mite lacks the filtration sophistication of the Kenmore. Thicker third-party HEPA bags may improve dust containment, but RTINGS did not test those bags, so they should not be presented as independently verified performance upgrades.

Model suffixes matter

Eureka’s catalog also includes Mighty Mite variants such as the 3670M and 3670H. Their names are similar, but price, included tools, and specifications may differ. Do not assume that a 3670M or 3670H listing is identical to the 3670G. Check the suffix and package contents.

What to watch for

  • No powered brushroll means limited deep-carpet and pet-hair performance.
  • Basic filtration makes it a poor allergy-first recommendation.
  • It is corded. That adds setup time but avoids battery charging and runtime limits.
  • Use bags designed for the exact model family. Compatibility should be confirmed rather than inferred from the Mighty Mite name alone.

Bottom line: The Mighty Mite is a smart low-cost choice for hard floors and compact living spaces. It is not the best pick for thick carpet, heavy shedding, or users seeking advanced filtration.

5. BISSELL PowerForce Helix 1700: best cheap upright for carpet

Best for: carpet-heavy homes that want a full-size upright with a powered floorhead at a low purchase price.

The BISSELL PowerForce Helix 1700 is the inexpensive upright to consider when carpet agitation and a large dirt container matter more than premium filtration or refined handling. RTINGS names the PowerForce Helix its best cheap upright. Its powered floorhead performs well on many larger debris and pet-hair tasks, and the machine provides more full-size cleaning capability than a handheld or compact canister.

BISSELL’s model 1700 product information lists an 8-amp corded motor, 23-foot cord, 13-inch cleaning path, five surface-height settings, 1-liter dirt tank, washable filter, multilevel filtration, rotating brush, extension wand, and dusting brush. The listed weight is 11 pounds, and the model carries a two-year limited warranty.

The central compromise is fine-particle containment. RTINGS reports poor air-quality performance, which is a meaningful issue for allergy-sensitive users or anyone frequently cleaning very fine dust. The brushroll also cannot be switched off. Take care around rug tassels, loose cords, fringe, and other obstructions, and do not use the rotating brush as though it were a hard-floor-safe suction-only head.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to watch for

  • No brushroll shutoff: the rotating brush stays active, so hard floors and delicate rugs require more care.
  • Non-swiveling floorhead: it can feel less maneuverable around furniture than a more sophisticated upright.
  • Weak fine-particle containment: it is not the first choice for allergy-sensitive households.
  • Budget construction: the plastic components feel inexpensive, so avoid forcing the hose, wand, or dirt-tank fittings.

BISSELL’s reviewed product information did not provide a reliable current price, so compare the exact model 1700 listing rather than relying on a generic PowerForce Helix price. Other Helix variants may have different tools or specifications.

Bottom line: Pick the PowerForce Helix 1700 when you need a cheap, full-size carpet upright and can accept weaker filtration, a fixed brushroll, and less polished maneuverability.

How to choose among these five

Choose by floor type

  • Mostly carpet: Start with the Kenmore for the best balance of carpet pickup and filtration. Choose the BISSELL if you want a cheaper carpet-oriented upright and can accept its weak fine-particle containment.
  • Mostly bare floors: The Eureka Mighty Mite is the strongest value when corded cleaning and bags are acceptable. The Kenmore is more versatile if you also have substantial carpet.
  • Mixed floors: The Kenmore is the safest one-vacuum choice because its height adjustment and brushroll shutoff make it more adaptable.
  • Low-pile rugs and occasional carpet: The Eureka can work when pet hair is not deeply embedded and expectations remain modest.

Choose by portability

  • Portable full-size cleaning: The Wyze Cordless Vacuum S is the clear choice among these five.
  • Spot cleaning: The BLACK+DECKER dustbuster is easier to grab for crumbs, stairs, furniture, and car interiors.
  • Carrying between floors: The handheld is easiest, the Wyze is next, and the Kenmore is the least convenient because of its upright bulk.

Choose by filtration and dust disposal

The Kenmore is the strongest shortlist candidate for allergy-sensitive households because RTINGS reports effective HEPA-grade filtration. Its bags also keep collected debris contained during disposal better than simply tipping a bagless bin into a trash can, although no disposal method eliminates all dust exposure.

The BISSELL PowerForce Helix has washable and multilevel filtration on paper, but its reported air-quality result is a significant limitation. The Eureka’s basic filtration similarly makes it a poor allergy-first choice. The Wyze and BLACK+DECKER are bagless and convenient, but emptying their bins can release dust. If filtration is a major concern, check the manufacturer’s current filter and bag instructions and do not infer performance from a marketing suction number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose by long-term cost

A low purchase price does not tell the whole ownership-cost story. Bagged machines such as the Kenmore and Eureka require compatible replacement bags. Bagless models avoid bag purchases but still need filter maintenance and may eventually require replacement filters, batteries, or brush components.

The Wyze’s interchangeable battery is a useful repairability and longevity advantage, but verify the cost and availability of a compatible replacement battery. The BLACK+DECKER’s non-user-replaceable battery, as noted in RTINGS’ testing, is a more important consideration if you expect many years of frequent use. Before buying any model, confirm that bags, filters, belts if applicable, and other wear parts are available for the exact model number.

Important note for construction cleanup

These are household vacuums, not a ranked list of jobsite dust extractors. Do not use them for wet pickup, hot ash, liquids, or hazardous materials. Fine construction dust can quickly load a household filter and may be unsafe to recirculate into occupied air. For concrete, masonry, drywall, or other potentially hazardous dust, use equipment specifically rated for the material and collection method, follow the tool manufacturer’s dust-control instructions, and observe applicable workplace and local safety requirements. If you only need to clean ordinary household dirt from a finished home, the five recommendations above remain relevant.

How the rankings were established

The independent cleaning and handling observations in this guide are attributed to RTINGS’ published testing and scoring, not to first-hand testing by this publication. RTINGS says it has bought and tested more than 110 vacuum cleaners and updated its budget-vacuum guide on August 5, 2026. Manufacturer specifications and observed prices were checked against the respective Kenmore, Wyze, BLACK+DECKER, Eureka, and BISSELL product or support information available for the research snapshot.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Independent results and manufacturer specifications answer different questions. For example, a stated suction value such as 20,000 Pa does not make the Wyze automatically better at cleaning than a vacuum with a lower advertised number, and a stated runtime does not necessarily match a high-power real-world session. Model numbers and package contents should always be verified at the time of purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which budget vacuum is best for allergies?

The Kenmore Intuition Bagged Upright BU4022 is the strongest choice in this group because RTINGS reports effective HEPA-grade filtration and its bagged design can make dust disposal more contained. The BISSELL PowerForce Helix and Eureka Mighty Mite are not allergy-first choices because their reported fine-particle or filtration performance is weaker.

Is the Wyze Cordless Vacuum S powerful enough for carpet?

It can handle routine light cleaning, but it is not the strongest carpet cleaner in this group. RTINGS reports mediocre carpet performance. Choose the Kenmore for more demanding carpet, pet-hair, or whole-home cleaning.

Are the Eureka Mighty Mite 3670G, 3670M, and 3670H the same vacuum?

They are related Mighty Mite variants, but their prices, included tools, and specifications can differ. Verify the exact suffix and package contents before buying rather than assuming that every Mighty Mite listing is identical.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I buy a bagged or bagless budget vacuum?

Choose bagged if you value cleaner dust disposal and are willing to pay for recurring bags. Choose bagless if you prefer to avoid bags, but plan to empty the bin carefully and maintain or replace filters. The Kenmore is the stronger bagged all-around pick; the BISSELL, Wyze, and BLACK+DECKER are bagless.

Can I use one of these vacuums for drywall or concrete dust?

Do not assume so. These are household vacuums and are not a substitute for a properly rated wet/dry vacuum or dust extractor. For fine construction dust or potentially hazardous materials, use equipment and controls specified for that material and follow applicable safety requirements.

The Bottom Line

The Kenmore Intuition Bagged Upright BU4022 is the best budget vacuum overall if you need one machine for mixed floors, carpet, pets, and better dust containment. Buy the Wyze Cordless Vacuum S for lightweight cordless convenience, the BLACK+DECKER dustbuster for small messes, the Eureka Mighty Mite 3670G for compact bare-floor cleaning, or the BISSELL PowerForce Helix 1700 for low-cost carpet-focused upright cleaning. Verify the exact model, package, replacement parts, seller, and price before checkout.
