The 5 Best Blenders for Smoothies, Independently Tested and Reviewed

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best overall for smoothie texture: the Vitamix Explorian E310. It is the strongest choice when your priority is a silky smoothie made with leafy greens, frozen fruit, ice, seeds, or fibrous produce.

The Braun TriForce Power Pro JB9041BK is better for large batches and one-button programs; the nutribullet Triple Prep System offers the most versatility for the money; the Chefman Obliterator is the best lower-cost full-size option; and the Beast Mighty 850 Plus is the best fit for one person who wants a compact, drink-from-the-vessel blender.

This is a U.S.-focused review based on current manufacturer specifications and published testing from RTINGS, Bon Appétit, Good Housekeeping, Food Network, and Tom’s Guide. It does not claim that this site’s staff personally tested these five machines. Prices and availability can change; the price references below were checked against the supplied research dated August 10, 2026.

Quick verdict

  • Best overall: Vitamix Explorian E310
  • Best for large batches and presets: Braun TriForce Power Pro JB9041BK
  • Best all-in-one value: nutribullet Triple Prep System
  • Best budget full-size blender: Chefman Obliterator
  • Best personal blender: Beast Mighty 850 Plus

Best smoothie blenders at a glance

These models are not interchangeable. Four are conventional countertop systems, while the Beast is a personal blender designed primarily for one serving. The table separates capacity, convenience, and price so a small personal cup is not unfairly compared with a 68-ounce family pitcher.

Model Best for Type and capacity Price snapshot Warranty Main drawback
Vitamix Explorian E310 Smoothest overall texture Full-size, 48 oz $379.95 manufacturer price Five-year full warranty Loud, manual controls, no included personal cup
Braun TriForce Power Pro JB9041BK Large batches and presets Full-size, 68 oz; 20 oz personal jar Check current U.S. retailer price Five years listed by Braun Very loud; main pitcher is not dishwasher-safe according to RTINGS
nutribullet Triple Prep System Blending plus food processing 64 oz pitcher; 24 and 32 oz cups; 7-cup processor bowl $219.99 manufacturer price One year Less premium build; weak at nut butter
Chefman Obliterator Lower-cost full-size performance 48 oz pitcher; 20 oz travel jar in bundle $159.99 listed bundle price Verify current warranty terms May need scraping; thick mixtures and nut butter are difficult
Beast Mighty 850 Plus One daily smoothie with minimal cleanup Personal; approximately 615 mL or 21 oz blending capacity $149 manufacturer price Two years Poor ice crushing; no hot blending; too small for families

Nominal container volume is not the same as a practical working capacity. A thick smoothie should not be packed to the pitcher’s maximum line, particularly when it contains frozen banana, dates, nut butter, or very little liquid.

How the evidence was evaluated

RTINGS is the closest match to this article’s smoothie-specific purpose. Its current smoothie ranking is based on a database of 137 purchased-and-tested blenders and separates single-serving from multiple-serving results. Its published list places the Vitamix E310 first, followed by the Braun TriForce Power Pro, nutribullet Triple Prep System, Chefman Obliterator, and Black+Decker Quiet Blender with Cyclone Glass Jar. See the RTINGS smoothie rankings for the underlying comparisons.

The lineup here substitutes the Beast Mighty 850 Plus for the Black+Decker so the article answers a common question directly: what should a person buy when they make one smoothie every day? The Black+Decker remains a reasonable alternative if every product must be a full-size countertop blender.

Other professional test methods reinforce why soft fruit alone is not enough to judge a smoothie blender:

  • Bon Appétit tested more than 35 full-size blenders using difficult ingredients including raw almonds and kale stems, then strained the finished smoothie to measure residual solids.
  • Good Housekeeping uses a strawberry-kale smoothie with ice and frozen strawberries, passing it through a fine-mesh sieve. Its broader testing also covers margaritas, milkshakes, soup, nut butter, coffee grinding, staining, and usability.
  • Food Network evaluates full-size, personal, and portable models for fruit smoothies, kale smoothies, blending time, tamping, hand cleaning, and dishwasher compatibility.

The published scores should not be combined into one artificial average. Recipes, equipment, scoring systems, and test conditions differ. Instead, they are used here to identify consistent strengths, meaningful weaknesses, and the right buyer for each machine.

What a genuinely good smoothie blender must do

A smoothie blender is not judged by its advertised wattage alone. Blade speed, blade design, jar geometry, ingredient circulation, control of air pockets, and the amount of liquid in the recipe can matter as much as or more than the motor number. RTINGS specifically cautions against treating power ratings as a standalone performance ranking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A strong model should:

  • Turn kale, spinach, stems, fruit skins, and seeds into a smooth drink without visible grit.
  • Break down frozen berries, banana, mango, and ice without leaving hard chunks.
  • Keep ingredients circulating instead of forcing you to stop, scrape, shake, or restart repeatedly.
  • Work acceptably for both a single serving and a near-capacity batch, if it is sold as a full-size model.
  • Handle thick mixtures without creating a persistent air pocket above the blades.
  • Finish quickly enough that the smoothie does not become unnecessarily warm.
  • Leave the pitcher, blade area, lid, gasket, and personal cup reasonably easy to clean.

The hardest realistic recipe includes several competing problems at once: frozen berries or banana, fresh kale with stems, spinach, Greek yogurt or milk, protein powder, ice, dates, and optional chia, flax, nuts, or seeds. A blender that excels only with fresh strawberries and liquid is not necessarily a strong smoothie blender.

1. Vitamix Explorian E310: best overall for smoothie texture

Buy it if: you care more about a silky, grain-free smoothie than about automatic programs, quiet operation, or the lowest price.

The E310 is the strongest smoothie-texture choice in the current RTINGS smoothie-specific ranking. RTINGS rated it 9.1 for single-serve smoothies, 8.7 for multiple-serving smoothies, 9.0 for build quality, and 8.4 for crushed ice. In its testing, the E310 produced a silky kale puree in under a minute, handled fibrous blends at full capacity, and reduced ice to mostly snow-like pieces. See the full RTINGS E310 review.

Specifications and controls

  • 48-ounce container
  • 2 HP motor
  • Ten variable speeds and pulse
  • Mini-tamper included
  • Approximately 9 by 8 by 18 inches
  • Approximately 10.5 pounds
  • Five-year full warranty

The Vitamix product page lists the E310 at $379.95 in the supplied research. Its full-size container is rated for hot blending, and Vitamix lists the pitcher and lid as dishwasher-safe. The blades are not intended to be removed, which is useful for durability and alignment but means the blade area must be cleaned in place.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why it makes such smooth smoothies

The E310 combines a high-speed motor with manual speed control and a tamper. The tamper lets you push frozen or thick ingredients into the blade path while the lid remains secured, which is particularly valuable for smoothie bowls and low-liquid recipes. Its relatively small 48-ounce pitcher is also less awkward for a modest full-size batch than some large family pitchers.

It is not a one-button appliance. You choose the speed, start low, and increase it as the ingredients begin circulating. That is more control than a preset provides, but it requires attention.

Trade-offs

  • Noise: RTINGS measured 97.9 dB at maximum speed in its test setup. That is a comparative laboratory figure, not a promise of the exact level in every kitchen, but it is plainly loud.
  • Storage: Its approximately 18-inch height can create cabinet-clearance problems. Measure with the pitcher and lid installed.
  • Convenience: There is no automatic smoothie program.
  • Personal servings: A personal cup requires a separate adapter or a bundle that includes one.
  • Heat: Manual high-speed blending can warm a smoothie during extended or repeated cycles. Bon Appétit reported this general issue with closely related manual-control Vitamix models; more power does not automatically mean a colder drink.

Bottom line: Choose the E310 when texture is the deciding factor and you also want a full-size machine for soup, nut butter, sauces, and frozen drinks. It is the best smoothie performer here, but not the best convenience or value choice for everyone.

2. Braun TriForce Power Pro JB9041BK: best for large batches and presets

Buy it if: you regularly make smoothies for several people and want both a large pitcher and automated programs.

Ninja Fit Compact Personal Blender, 700W, (2) 16oz Cups, QB3001SS
  • PULSE TECHNOLOGY POWER: The powerful 700-watt push-to-blend motor base powers through everything in the cup for the best of Ninja blending as a smoothie maker, milkshake mixer, and more
  • NUTRIENT EXTRACTION* DRINKS: Unlock hidden vitamins and nutrients from whole fruits and veggies, blending even the portions that are usually discarded for a nutritious drink
  • BLENDS FROZEN INGREDIENTS: Crush ice and pulverize frozen ingredients for resort-like frozen drinks, smoothies, shakes, and more
  • COMPACT COUNTERTOP DESIGN: So compact that it fits on any countertop, with intuitive push-to-blend controls making it the go-to choice for shakes and smoothies
  • ON-THE-GO CONVENIENCE: Blend directly in the 16-oz. single-serve cup, attach the spout lid, and enjoy your creations wherever your day takes you

The Braun is the most capable family-oriented choice in this group. RTINGS rated it 9.1 for single-serve smoothies, 9.2 for multiple-serving smoothies, 9.0 for build quality, and 9.4 for crushed ice. It produced an almost perfectly smooth personal smoothie in one smoothie cycle and a very smooth full-size blend with only tiny specks remaining. Its testing also found strong performance with nuts, seeds, ice, nut butter, and hot blending. Read the RTINGS Braun review.

Specifications and controls

  • 68-ounce main pitcher
  • 20-ounce Smoothie2Go personal jar in the JB9041BK variant
  • 1,600-watt motor
  • Ten manual speeds and pulse
  • Automated programs with texture settings
  • Approximately 17.1 inches high, 8.6 inches wide, and 10.6 inches deep
  • Approximately 10.1 pounds
  • Five-year warranty listed in Braun product information

The triangular pitcher is intended to improve circulation, while the texture options let you select a result without manually managing the entire blend. Presets are useful when you make similar recipes repeatedly, but they do not guarantee a smoother result. A preset can finish before a particularly thick or fibrous recipe is fully incorporated, and the correct cycle can differ between the full-size pitcher and personal jar.

Capacity and real-world use

The 68-ounce figure gives the Braun an advantage for family breakfasts and batch preparation, but it is nominal vessel capacity, not a recommendation to fill the jar completely with a dense smoothie. Leave room for circulation and use more liquid for thick recipes.

The included personal jar makes the JB9041BK more flexible than the JB9040BK. Confirm the model suffix before ordering because the related JB9040BK does not include the personal jar.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Trade-offs

  • Noise: RTINGS measured 98.1 dB at maximum speed, making it one of the loudest choices here.
  • Cleaning: RTINGS reports that the personal jar, lid, and gaskets are dishwasher-safe, but the main pitcher is not dishwasher-safe. Hand-wash the pitcher promptly after protein powder, dates, or nut butter dries onto its surfaces.
  • Batch time: A full-size batch may need more than one smoothie cycle depending on the recipe and fill level.
  • Availability: Braun’s U.S. support page confirms the JB9041BK variant, but manufacturer pages do not consistently show live purchase inventory. Check the exact model at the retailer before treating a listed price or bundle as current.

Bottom line: The Braun is the best choice for families, large frozen drinks, and buyers who want preset convenience without giving up strong smoothie performance. It is less attractive if low noise or dishwasher-cleaning the main pitcher is essential.

3. nutribullet Triple Prep System: best all-in-one value

Buy it if: you want one motor base for smoothies, personal drinks, and food-processing work.

The Triple Prep is more than a smoothie blender. It combines a 64-ounce pitcher, 24- and 32-ounce personal cups, and a seven-cup food-processing bowl. That combination is its strongest reason to buy it.

RTINGS rated it 9.1 for single-serve smoothies, 9.2 for multiple-serving smoothies, 8.0 for build quality, and 9.3 for crushed ice. It produced a virtually perfectly smooth personal kale smoothie in one 60-second cycle and a nearly smooth full-size batch in one 50-second smoothie cycle. It also handled ice well and can hot-blend in the main pitcher. See the RTINGS Triple Prep review.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Specifications and controls

  • $219.99 manufacturer price in the supplied research
  • 1,500-watt power base
  • 64-ounce blending pitcher
  • 24-ounce and 32-ounce personal cups
  • Seven-cup food-processing bowl
  • Manual high, medium, low, and pulse controls
  • Vessel recognition
  • Separate smoothie programs for full-size and personal vessels
  • Approximately 8 by 7.75 by 19.75 inches, depending on the measurement configuration
  • One-year warranty

The manufacturer’s product page confirms the vessel lineup, programs, dimensions, and warranty. Vessel recognition is convenient because the controls can respond to the attached container, but it does not replace correct loading, adequate liquid, or a suitable batch size.

Where it falls short

The Triple Prep is not as premium-feeling as the Vitamix or Braun. RTINGS notes that the touch controls attract fingerprints and that the food-processor bowl can be awkward to lock into place. The included tamper is hand-wash only, and the manufacturer advises rinsing and scrubbing accessories before placing them in the dishwasher.

Nut butter is its major performance weakness. Thick nut butter can stop circulating and require intervention, so do not choose this system primarily for nut butter or extremely low-liquid smoothie bowls.

Cleaning: The jars are dishwasher-safe, but scrape sticky residue from the tamper, gasket, and blade areas before relying on the dishwasher. A cleaning program or soap-and-water cycle is useful for loose smoothie residue, not a guarantee that dried dates, protein powder, or nut butter will disappear.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line: The Triple Prep gives buyers a strong smoothie blender, personal cups, and a food processor for substantially less than a premium Vitamix. It is the best value when versatility matters more than premium construction or demanding thick-food performance.

4. Chefman Obliterator: best budget full-size blender

Buy it if: you want strong frozen-fruit and ice performance in a full-size machine without paying premium-blender prices.

The Chefman Obliterator is a budget choice relative to premium countertop blenders, although its current manufacturer bundle price is not a sub-$100 bargain. The listed bundle includes the 48-ounce pitcher and 20-ounce travel jar for $159.99, subject to promotions and availability.

RTINGS rated it 9.0 for single-serve smoothies, 8.5 for multiple-serving smoothies, 8.0 for build quality, and a perfect 10 for crushed ice. It produced very smooth blends with kale, pineapple, fruit, and spinach. The important limitation was circulation: ingredients could stick near the top, requiring one stop to scrape or shake the jar. See the RTINGS Obliterator review.

Specifications and features

  • 1,380-watt motor
  • 48-ounce Tritan pitcher
  • 20-ounce travel jar in the listed bundle
  • Five speeds plus pulse
  • Auto Blend and other preset functions
  • Cleaning program
  • Tamper and scraper
  • Dishwasher-safe jars and accessories
  • Approximately 16 inches high according to Chefman

The Chefman product page describes an airflow system intended to reduce heat and noise. In RTINGS’ test setup, however, it still measured 94.1 dB at maximum speed. That is lower than the E310 and Braun measurements in the same type of comparison, but it should not be interpreted as quiet.

Thick mixtures and cleaning

The tamper helps with thick smoothies, but the Obliterator is not a natural nut-butter specialist. RTINGS found nut butter difficult, with repeated cycles and scraping required. The fixed blades also prevent removal for separate cleaning, although the jars and accessories are dishwasher-safe.

Lid removal can be awkward, so open the pitcher only after the blades have stopped completely. The cleaning program is useful for loosening ordinary smoothie residue; sticky foods still deserve immediate rinsing and hand attention.

Bottom line: Choose the Chefman when you want a capable full-size blender for frozen fruit, greens, and ice at a lower price than premium models. Accept the possibility of scraping and do not buy it primarily for nut butter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Beast Mighty 850 Plus: best personal blender for daily smoothies

Buy it if: you make one smoothie at a time, want minimal cleanup, and do not need a family pitcher or serious ice-crushing ability.

The Beast is intentionally a different category from the four full-size systems. Its largest vessel has approximately 785 mL of total volume and about 615 mL, or 21 ounces, of usable blending capacity. That is appropriate for an individual breakfast, not a family batch.

RTINGS found it excellent with fibrous single-serve smoothies, giving it a 9.6 performance rating for fibrous ingredients in small batches and a 9.5 texture rating. It produced nearly perfectly smooth kale-and-fruit blends in one one-minute cycle. Tom’s Guide reported a fully blended frozen-berry, banana, milk, and date smoothie in roughly 20 seconds in its own test, but that is one tester’s result rather than a guaranteed time for every recipe. Read the RTINGS Beast review and Tom’s Guide’s hands-on review.

Specifications and convenience

  • $149 manufacturer price in the supplied research
  • 850-watt motor
  • Three vessels
  • Blend and pulse controls
  • Drinking lid, straw system, storage lids, and cleaning brushes
  • Dishwasher-safe jars, lids, and accessories
  • Two-year warranty
  • Approximately 15 inches high and 4.13 inches wide

The narrow footprint is useful in a small kitchen, and the drinking vessel eliminates the need to wash a separate glass. The deep cup can still be awkward to hand-wash, which is why the supplied brushes are useful.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Important limitations

  • Ice: RTINGS found poor ice-crushing performance. It may require manual pulsing and shaking, so it is not the right pick for frequent frozen drinks or ice-heavy smoothies.
  • Heat: It cannot blend hot liquids.
  • Capacity: It is unsuitable for family-size batches.
  • Heavy mixtures: Nut butter and very low-liquid recipes are outside its strongest use case.
  • Portability: It is compact but corded. Do not confuse it with a battery-powered portable blender.

Bottom line: The Beast is the most convenient choice for a one-person smoothie routine, especially with greens and fibrous fruit. Its excellent single-serving texture does not make it a general-purpose replacement for a full-size blender.

Which type of blender should you buy?

Full-size countertop blender

Choose a full-size machine if you make several servings, prepare soups or sauces, crush ice frequently, make nut butter, or want one appliance for several kitchen tasks. Full-size pitchers generally offer better circulation and more headroom for demanding mixtures, especially when a tamper is included.

The disadvantages are a larger footprint, more noise, more parts to wash, and less efficient blending when you make only a very small amount. The E310’s 48-ounce pitcher can be better for small batches than a very large family pitcher, while the Braun’s 68-ounce container is better suited to larger quantities.

Personal blender

Choose a personal model for one smoothie at a time, direct drinking, and reduced cleanup. The Beast is particularly strong with leafy greens and fibrous fruit in a single-serving recipe.

Ninja Professional Blender, 1000W, Total Crushing Tech, 72oz Pitcher, BL610
  • PROFESSIONAL POWER: 1000 watts of professional power can crush ice and breakdown any tough ingredient.Power source : Corded Electric.Amperage : 12.5 amps
  • XL CAPACITY: The 72 oz professional blender pitcher is excellent for making frozen drinks and creamy smoothies for the entire family. 64 oz. max liquid capacity
  • INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGY: Total Crushing Technology delivers unbeatable power with blades that pulverize and crush through ice, whole fruits and vegetables in seconds.
  • ICE CRUSHING: Blast ice into snow in seconds and blend your favorite ingredients into delicious resort-style frozen drinks
  • RECIPE INSPIRATION: The included recipe guide provides drink and dish making inspiration.

Personal blenders generally have less capacity, are less suitable for family batches, and often cannot handle hot liquids. They may also struggle with large amounts of ice or very thick mixtures. Follow the particular model’s loading and maximum-fill instructions.

Portable battery-powered blender

A portable blender is a separate category, not a smaller substitute for a countertop machine. Epicurious notes that portable models are less powerful and are most appropriate for protein powder, small amounts of fresh fruit, and plenty of liquid. They are a poor match for kale combined with frozen fruit and ice.

Thick smoothies and smoothie bowls

Thick mixtures are harder than ordinary drinkable smoothies because ingredients can form an air pocket around the blades and stop circulating. The best choices here are the Vitamix E310, because its tamper is designed for thick or frozen blends, and the Braun, whose jar design and strong performance help with dense recipes.

Use this checklist:

  • Choose a model with a tamper or another approved way to push ingredients toward the blades.
  • Start with enough liquid to establish circulation before reducing liquid for a thicker texture.
  • Do not fill a pitcher to its nominal maximum with frozen ingredients.
  • Use pulse to break up packed ingredients and air pockets.
  • Stop and scrape only after the blades have completely stopped, and follow the manual.
  • Do not assume that a food processor attachment or personal cup is approved for every thick recipe.

RTINGS found that the Chefman can produce very smooth thick results but is difficult for nut butter. The nutribullet Triple Prep is also strong for smoothies but struggles with nut butter. A smoothie bowl is possible only when the recipe, liquid level, batch size, and manufacturer instructions allow it; a powerful motor alone does not prevent stalling.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Presets versus manual controls

Presets are primarily a convenience feature. They let you press a button and step away, but they do not automatically produce a better texture.

  • Manual controls: better when you need to adjust speed, thickness, or blend time. The Vitamix E310 uses ten variable speeds and pulse but has no automatic programs.
  • Presets: useful for repeatable recipes and hands-off operation. The Braun offers automated programs and texture options; the Chefman has Auto Blend and other presets; the nutribullet uses vessel-specific programs.
  • Pulse: helpful for starting ice, breaking up packed ingredients, and correcting an air pocket.

A smoothie preset may be timed differently for a personal cup and full-size pitcher. If a preset ends with visible chunks, add a little liquid and run another short cycle rather than assuming the blender is defective.

How to load a smoothie for smoother results

For most full-size pitchers, Vitamix recommends this order:

  1. Liquid first.
  2. Soft fruit and vegetables.
  3. Leafy greens.
  4. Firmer produce.
  5. Frozen fruit.
  6. Ice last.

This arrangement helps liquid reach the blades and gives the ingredients a path to circulate. Start at low speed, increase gradually, and use the tamper when a thick or frozen mixture stops moving. Vitamix explains the loading order, tamper use, and troubleshooting in its owner support guidance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not automatically apply that order to an inverted personal cup. Some personal systems require ingredients to be loaded in a different order because the blade assembly is attached to the cup before the cup is turned onto the base. The model’s manual takes priority.

Cleaning and day-to-day ownership

Dishwasher-safe is not a complete measure of cleaning ease. The relevant questions are whether the blade assembly comes out, whether food collects beneath the gasket, whether the pitcher is too tall for the dishwasher, and whether sticky ingredients are removed before they dry.

Model Cleaning considerations
Vitamix E310 Pitcher and lid are listed as dishwasher-safe. Blades are not designed to be removed, so clean around them in place.
Braun JB9041BK RTINGS reports the personal jar, lid, and gaskets are dishwasher-safe. The main pitcher is not dishwasher-safe according to RTINGS.
nutribullet Triple Prep Jars are dishwasher-safe. The tamper is hand-wash only; rinse and scrub before using the dishwasher.
Chefman Obliterator Jars and accessories are dishwasher-safe. Fixed blades and an awkward lid can still require hand attention.
Beast Mighty 850 Plus Jars, lids, and accessories are dishwasher-safe. The deep personal cup may be awkward to wash by hand, but included brushes help.

For any model, rinse immediately after protein powder, dates, nut butter, or thick yogurt. A cleaning cycle is useful for loosening ordinary liquid residue, but it should not be described as proof that dried or sticky food will be removed from every gasket and blade area.

Noise, size, and cabinet clearance

High-speed blenders are loud. RTINGS measured the following maximum-speed levels in its test conditions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Vitamix E310: 97.9 dB
  • Braun TriForce Power Pro: 98.1 dB
  • Chefman Obliterator: 94.1 dB

These are comparative measurements from a particular setup, not a guarantee of the exact sound level in a home. The Beast is considered quieter than many personal blenders, while the Black+Decker is specifically marketed as a relatively quiet full-size model. Quieter does not necessarily mean better at kale, ice, or thick mixtures.

Approximate heights also vary by measurement method and whether the lid or pitcher is installed:

  • Vitamix E310: 18 inches
  • Braun: 17.1 inches
  • nutribullet Triple Prep: approximately 17.4 to 19.75 inches, depending on configuration
  • Chefman Obliterator: approximately 16 inches
  • Beast Mighty 850 Plus: approximately 15 inches

Measure the space between the counter and cabinet, and measure the machine with its included vessel and lid installed. A blender that technically fits on the counter may still be inconvenient if the pitcher must be removed every time you use it.

Hot soup and personal-cup safety

Hot blending depends on the exact vessel and model. Some full-size containers are designed for hot ingredients when used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Personal cups generally are not.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not assume that a personal cup is safe for hot liquid because the full-size base can blend soup. Vitamix explicitly warns that its 20-ounce personal cup must not be used to heat ingredients or blend hot liquids because pressure can build and cause the cup to burst. The Vitamix personal-cup manual contains the warning. Always follow the manual for the specific model and vessel.

What to do when a smoothie goes wrong

The smoothie is chunky

Common causes include too little liquid, frozen ingredients packed around the blade, incorrect loading, an overfilled cup, fibrous greens that cannot circulate, or a preset that ended too soon.

  1. Stop the blender and wait for the blades to stop.
  2. Add a small amount of liquid.
  3. Scrape the sides only if the manual permits it.
  4. Use pulse, a tamper, or another short smoothie cycle.
  5. Reduce the batch size if the ingredients remain stationary.

The motor stalls or shuts off

Overloading, inadequate liquid, an air pocket, prolonged operation, or thermal protection can all cause a shutdown. Do not assume every brand has the same reset period. Vitamix says overload protection may reset within a few minutes, while some shutdowns can require roughly 30 minutes of cooling. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions rather than repeatedly restarting a hot motor.

The smoothie is warm

Long blending, repeated cycles, warm ingredients, and friction can raise the temperature. A powerful blender may warm a drink if it runs too long. Use frozen ingredients, chilled liquid, an efficient batch size, and the shortest cycle that produces the texture you want.

Ice remains in chunks

  • Add liquid unless the manual specifically permits dry ice crushing.
  • Use pulse or an ice-crush program.
  • Do not overload the jar.
  • Use a full-size model for frequent ice-heavy drinks.
  • Remember that the Beast Mighty 850 Plus is unusually weak at ice crushing despite its excellent fibrous-smoothie performance.

A personal cup becomes pressurized

Never blend hot liquids in a personal cup. Wait until the blades have stopped completely before removing the blade assembly or opening the cup. Stay below the model’s maximum-fill line and follow its continuous-run instructions.

If you want five full-size blenders instead

If an editorial policy excludes personal blenders, replace the Beast with the Black+Decker Quiet Blender with Cyclone Glass Jar. It has a 48-ounce glass pitcher and a 24-ounce personal jar and is positioned as a relatively quiet full-size option.

RTINGS found that it makes mostly smooth kale-and-fruit blends but leaves more unprocessed material, handles only smaller ice batches well, and feels less sturdy than the Chefman. It is therefore a useful quiet-and-inexpensive alternative, not a stronger smoothie performer than the five recommendations above. See the Black+Decker review.

How to choose by priority

  • You want the smoothest greens and fruit: Buy the Vitamix E310.
  • You need family batches plus a personal cup: Buy the Braun JB9041BK.
  • You want blending and food processing in one system: Buy the nutribullet Triple Prep.
  • You want strong full-size performance at a lower price: Buy the Chefman Obliterator.
  • You make one smoothie daily and want minimal cleanup: Buy the Beast Mighty 850 Plus.
  • You make thick smoothie bowls: Favor the Vitamix, or the Braun if you also need a large pitcher and programs.
  • You crush lots of ice: Favor the Braun, nutribullet, Chefman, or Vitamix over the Beast.
  • You need hot soup: Use an approved full-size container only; never use a personal cup for hot liquids.
  • You have limited counter space: Measure first. The Beast is the smallest, but the Chefman is the shortest approximate full-size option in this group.
  • You are sensitive to noise: The Beast is the more subdued personal option. Among the measured full-size models, the Chefman recorded the lowest figure of the three, but 94.1 dB is still loud.

A practical smoothie recipe for comparing your own blender

For a useful home comparison, use the same recipe and weigh the ingredients rather than judging different recipes. Try chilled liquid, Greek yogurt, frozen berries, half a frozen banana, fresh spinach or kale with stems, protein powder, and a modest amount of ice. Add dates, chia, flax, or nuts only after establishing a baseline, because each makes circulation and cleanup more difficult.

Record whether the blender needs tamping, scraping, shaking, a second cycle, or extra liquid. Taste for grit from greens and seeds, look for frozen chunks, and note the temperature immediately after blending. This is more informative than comparing advertised wattage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a personal blender powerful enough for frozen fruit and greens?

Sometimes. The Beast Mighty 850 Plus performed extremely well with fibrous single-serving smoothies, including kale and fruit, but RTINGS found it poor at crushing ice. A personal blender is a good choice for one liquid-heavy smoothie at a time, not for family batches, hot soup, or frequent ice-heavy drinks.

Which blender is best for thick smoothie bowls?

The Vitamix Explorian E310 is the safest recommendation because its included tamper is designed to move thick or frozen ingredients into the blade path. The Braun is another strong choice. Use enough liquid, avoid overfilling, and follow the model’s instructions; even powerful blenders can stall when an air pocket forms.

Can I blend hot soup in a smoothie cup?

No. Personal cups can build dangerous pressure with hot liquids. Use only a full-size container explicitly approved for hot blending by its manufacturer. Vitamix specifically warns against heating or blending hot liquids in its 20-ounce personal cup.

Does a higher wattage guarantee a smoother smoothie?

No. Motor power is only one specification. Blade speed, jar shape, ingredient circulation, controls, liquid level, and recipe size also determine texture. The observed test results are more useful than comparing wattage numbers by themselves.

The Bottom Line

For the smoothest greens, frozen fruit, seeds, and fibrous produce, choose the Vitamix Explorian E310. Choose the Braun TriForce Power Pro JB9041BK for family-size batches and presets, the nutribullet Triple Prep System for blending plus food processing, the Chefman Obliterator for lower-cost full-size performance, and the Beast Mighty 850 Plus for one-person smoothies with minimal cleanup.

The most important buying decision is not the largest wattage number or the biggest pitcher. It is matching the blender’s vessel, circulation, controls, ice ability, cleanup requirements, and hot-liquid limitations to the recipes you actually make.
