1. Chicago Metallic Commercial II Uncoated Sheet Pan: best overall workhorse

Its aluminized-steel construction is aimed at longevity rather than effortless release. The pan measures approximately 17.75 by 13 inches and weighs about 2.25 pounds. Food Network lists it as uncoated, dishwasher-compatible, and backed by a limited lifetime warranty; verify the current manufacturer and retailer information before buying.
That combination makes it a practical choice for sheet-pan dinners, roasted vegetables, pizza, focaccia, and routine baking. An uncoated surface also avoids the care concerns associated with a decorative nonstick finish and is well suited to high-heat roasting, provided the exact product instructions are followed.
#1 Best Overall
- PURE UNCOATED ALUMINUM & SUPERIOR HEAT CONDUCTION: Crafted from 100% bare aluminum with NO chemical coatings – guarantees safe, toxin-free cooking. Engineered for lightning-fast, even heat distribution (up to 30% faster than steel!) for perfectly crispy cookies, golden roasted veggies, and juicy meats every time. The aluminum baking pans are made of thick and heavy aluminum, with a heavy rolled edge making this truly "commercial-grade"that provides maximized scratch resistance
- NO MORE BURNT BOTTOMS: They perform better than ordinary stainless steel baking pans in terms of heat resistance and cook everything evenly, withstand temperatures of up to 500ºF / 260ºC without warping. Foods bake evenly due to aluminum’s superior heat conductivity
- EAVY-DUTY 18-GAUGE CONSTRUCTION (0.8mm" THICK) – RESISTS WARPING! Premium extra-thick aluminum prevents bending in high-heat ovens. Reinforced rolled edges add rigidity + prevent cuts. Pro Tip: Avoid thermal shock – don’t transfer from hot oven to cold water! cookie sheets for baking will allow you to cook in bigger batches and in less time. Also great for your weekly meal preps. Works for all cooking techniques such as roasting, broiling, grilling, and dehydrating
- REINFORCED ENCAPSULATED SOLID CORE RIM: Reinforced encapsulated solid core steel rim prevents warping and adds strength also making it easy to remove from the oven. These aluminum pans have a tall side, which almost eliminates any splattering onto the oven floor, which is so common with a sheet cake pan. These baking trays are non-toxic, BPA-free, and food-safe, You can rest assured that these aluminum baking pans will give you the perfectly baked product every time
- NO MORE STICKY STAINS – EASY-CLEAN NATURAL PATINA: Hand-wash recommended (dishwasher use may cause harmless oxidation). Stubborn residue? Use baking soda paste or lemon juice! Developing a natural dark patina over time enhances flavor – like cast iron, but 70% lighter!
Best for: One pan that can handle dinner, pizza, and everyday baking.
Trade-offs: Uncoated metal is not the easiest surface for jam-filled bars, melted cheese, or other foods that cling. Use parchment, a properly fitted reusable liner, or appropriate greasing when the recipe calls for extra release. Although Food Network lists the pan as dishwasher-compatible, hand washing can be gentler over the long term.

2. Nordic Ware Naturals Baker’s Half Sheet: best uncoated aluminum baking sheet
The Nordic Ware Naturals Baker’s Half Sheet is the clearest choice for cooks who prefer pure, uncoated aluminum. Food Network reported golden-brown cookie and pizza bottoms, crisp and evenly cooked Brussels sprouts, strong heat conductivity, and a sturdy encapsulated galvanized-steel rim.
According to Nordic Ware’s product information, the pan is made from pure aluminum and in the United States. Food Network lists approximate dimensions of 17.9 by 12.9 inches, a weight of 1.65 pounds, and a lifetime warranty. Aluminum heats efficiently and is a familiar material for baking, but it can discolor or acquire cosmetic marks with use; that does not automatically mean the pan has failed.
Best for: Cookies, roasted vegetables, pizza, and cooks who want a straightforward uncoated aluminum pan.
Trade-offs: Food Network says this model is not dishwasher-safe. Wash it according to Nordic Ware’s current care directions, and do not assume that every Naturals or nonstick model has the same temperature limit. Nordic Ware lists some Naturals products at temperatures up to 500°F, but the exact model’s instructions control.

Buying lead: The Nordic Ware Naturals Baker’s Half Sheet is the best aluminum baking sheet here for readers who value heat conductivity and a simple, uncoated surface over dishwasher convenience.
3. Chicago Metallic Professional Nonstick Baking Sheet: best for sticky foods
Choose the Chicago Metallic Professional Nonstick Baking Sheet when easy release and cleanup matter more than having an uncoated, high-heat workhorse. In Food Network’s testing, jam-filled bar cookies and cheesy pizza released easily, while the pan heated evenly. Testers also liked its wire-reinforced lip and dishwasher compatibility.
The pan is approximately 16.1 by 12 inches and uses carbon steel with a silicone-based nonstick coating. Food Network reported that it was the only nonstick pan in the test considered safe for metal utensils, but that is not a reason to treat the finish as scratch-proof. Silicone, wood, or other utensil materials remain the more conservative choice, and hand washing is advisable when practical.

Best for: Sticky cookies, cheese-heavy foods, bars, and cooks who want cleanup to be less troublesome.
Trade-offs: This is not a universal substitute for an uncoated roasting pan. Food Network specifically says it is not intended for use under a broiler. Coated cookware also requires attention to the manufacturer’s temperature limits and cleaning instructions; never infer unlimited oven or broiler safety from the word “nonstick.”
Buying lead: The Chicago Metallic Professional nonstick baking sheet makes sense for shoppers prioritizing release and cleanup, as long as they accept the coating’s care and broiler restrictions.
4. Caraway Baking Sheet Duo: best ceramic-coated set
The Caraway Baking Sheet Duo is the category pick for shoppers who want two ceramic-coated pans rather than one basic half-sheet. The set includes an approximately 15-by-10-inch sheet and an 18-by-13-inch sheet, giving you a smaller option for modest batches and a larger surface for dinners or larger quantities.

Food Network describes an aluminized-steel body with a ceramic-coated interior. Its testers reported easy release, even heating, crisp vegetables, browned cookies, and straightforward cleanup. The two sizes and coordinated appearance are the main reasons to choose this set—not because it is the most versatile or economical option for every kitchen.
Best for: People who want ceramic-coated bakeware, two useful sizes, and a coordinated set.
Trade-offs: The pans are heavier than basic aluminum sheets, are not dishwasher-safe, and should not be used with metal utensils. They also generally cost more than a single uncoated aluminum pan. Follow Caraway’s current temperature and care instructions for the exact set, particularly because coating specifications can change.
Buying lead: Consider the Caraway Baking Sheet Duo if a ceramic-coated two-pan set is more important to you than minimum weight, price, or maximum versatility.
5. Williams Sonoma Goldtouch Pro Nonstick Cookie Sheet: best dedicated cookie sheet
The Williams Sonoma Goldtouch Pro Nonstick Cookie Sheet is the most specialized recommendation. Food Network’s testers found that it handled cookies consistently from the center to the edges, produced rounded centers with gentle edge browning, and allowed cookies to be removed by hand. They also praised its sturdy feel and easy cleanup.
Food Network lists an approximately 18-by-14-inch format, commercial-grade aluminized steel, a nonstick finish, and dishwasher-safe construction subject to Williams Sonoma’s recommendation to hand wash. The broad, relatively flat design is useful when cookies need to slide off easily.

Its flatter or more open edge makes cookie transfer convenient, but a rimmed pan is better for foods that release juices, need to be tossed, or could slide off. Also, do not describe this product as PTFE-free, toxin-free, chemical-free, or naturally nonstick: Food Network notes that it is not PTFE-free.

Sheet pan or cookie sheet: which shape should you buy?
The names are used inconsistently in retail listings, so inspect the design rather than trusting the label alone.
- Choose a rimmed half-sheet for sheet-pan dinners, roasted vegetables, pizza, focaccia, bacon, and any food that may release oil or liquid. The raised rim helps contain ingredients and makes tossing safer.
- Choose a cookie sheet when cookies and other dry baked goods dominate your schedule. A flatter or reduced-edge design can make it easier to slide a spatula under cookies and may improve airflow around the dough.
- Check the actual dimensions. “Half-sheet” commonly describes a large commercial-style format, but retail sizes vary. Make sure the pan fits your oven, storage space, parchment, and any cooling rack you plan to use.
If you are buying only one pan, a rimmed half-sheet is usually the more versatile format. If you already own a rimmed pan and bake cookies frequently, a dedicated cookie sheet can fill a specific gap.

Uncoated aluminum
Pure aluminum, represented here by Nordic Ware, is valued for heat conductivity and relatively light weight. It is a strong fit for cookies and roasting, but it can discolor and is often not dishwasher-safe. Aluminum may also react with certain acidic foods, so use recipe-specific guidance and a liner when appropriate.
Aluminized steel
Aluminized steel combines a steel substrate with aluminum protection or cladding. It appears in the Chicago Metallic and Williams Sonoma picks and generally offers a sturdier feel than lightweight aluminum. The exact construction, gauge, rim, finish, and care rules still matter more than the material name alone.

Nonstick and ceramic coatings
Coatings can make release and cleanup easier, particularly with cheese, jam, and delicate baked goods. In exchange, you must follow the model’s temperature limits, utensil restrictions, cleaning instructions, and broiler guidance. “Nonstick” does not mean scratch-proof or permanent, and “ceramic-coated” does not mean every model has identical care requirements.
Care, temperature, and longevity
- Read the exact product instructions first. Temperature limits differ between uncoated, nonstick, and ceramic-coated products, even within one brand.
- Do not assume broiler safety. The Chicago Metallic Professional Nonstick pan is specifically not intended for broiler use. A baking temperature that is safe for one pan does not establish broiler safety for another.
- Prefer hand washing when preserving appearance or a coating matters. Some models are listed as dishwasher-compatible, but detergents and repeated cycles can be harder on finishes. Nordic Ware says its Naturals Baker’s Half Sheet is not dishwasher-safe.
- Use suitable utensils. For coated pans, silicone, wood, or other manufacturer-approved utensils are the cautious choice. Even when a product is reported as metal-utensil-safe, that should not be read as unlimited resistance to scratches.
- Do not treat cooking spray as universally harmless. Care guidance varies. For example, USA Pan’s use-and-care guidance discusses its Americoat silicone release coating and directs users to follow recipe and temperature instructions rather than assuming spray is an appropriate substitute for every care practice.
- Prevent thermal shock and abuse. Avoid placing a very hot pan in cold water, dragging it across abrasive surfaces, or using harsh scouring tools unless the manufacturer permits them.
A Half-sheet silicone baking mat or parchment can be useful for sticky or delicate recipes, but check the liner’s dimensions and oven rating. It is an accessory—not proof that a pan’s coating is safe beyond its stated limits.
Useful accessories
- Half-sheet silicone baking mat: A reusable liner can simplify release on an uncoated pan and reduce direct contact with the surface. Match its dimensions to the pan and follow its temperature rating.
- Parchment: Convenient for cookies, bars, and sticky foods, particularly when you do not want to add fat or scrub a pan.
- Half-sheet cooling rack: A properly sized rack helps cool cookies without trapping steam underneath and can elevate food inside a rimmed pan when the rack is oven-safe and designed for that use.
- Silicone or wooden utensils: These are sensible companions for nonstick and ceramic-coated sheets, even where a manufacturer permits limited metal-utensil use.
Which one should you buy?
- Buy the Chicago Metallic Commercial II if you want one durable pan for the widest range of tasks.
- Buy the Nordic Ware Naturals if you specifically want lightweight, uncoated aluminum and primarily bake or roast.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best baking sheet for most people?
The Chicago Metallic Commercial II Uncoated Sheet Pan is the best all-purpose choice in this tested group because it combines durable aluminized-steel construction, even heating, and resistance to warping. Use parchment or another appropriate liner for especially sticky foods.
Is aluminum or aluminized steel better for a baking sheet?
Neither is universally better. Uncoated aluminum is light and conducts heat well, while aluminized steel generally emphasizes sturdier construction. The Nordic Ware is the uncoated-aluminum pick; the Chicago Metallic Commercial II is the aluminized-steel workhorse.
Are these baking sheets dishwasher-safe?
Care varies by model. Food Network lists the Chicago Metallic Commercial II and Chicago Metallic Professional Nonstick as dishwasher-compatible, while the Nordic Ware Naturals and Caraway Duo are not dishwasher-safe according to the supplied review. Williams Sonoma lists its Goldtouch Pro as dishwasher-safe but recommends hand washing. Always check the current model instructions.
Can I use a baking sheet under the broiler?
Do not assume so. The Chicago Metallic Professional Nonstick Baking Sheet is specifically not intended for broiler use, and coated pans often have different limits from uncoated pans. Check the exact manufacturer instructions before broiling.
What is the difference between a cookie sheet and a sheet pan?
A cookie sheet is usually flatter or more open at the edges, which can make cookie transfer easier. A rimmed sheet pan has raised edges that contain juices and ingredients, making it more useful for roasting, pizza, and sheet-pan dinners.
