The Tribest Sedona Express is the best overall premium pick, and the COSORI Premium CP267-FD is the best value. Good Housekeeping’s independent testing also supports the compact Presto Dehydro 06301 and beginner-friendly Hamilton Beach 32100A. The right choice depends mainly on batch size, storage space, noise tolerance, controls, and whether you need mesh screens or fruit-roll sheets.
Our recommendations combine recent testing from Good Housekeeping, WIRED, Consumer Reports, and TechGearLab with manufacturer documentation. We did not conduct a new hands-on test, so performance findings are attributed to the publication that reported them.

Our four picks at a glance
| Pick | Best for | Why it stands out | What to know before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tribest Sedona Express | Premium buyers and frequent users | Good Housekeeping named it best overall after testing, reporting efficient, even drying of apples and jerky, quiet operation, multiple modes, and a small footprint. | Its premium positioning is difficult to justify for occasional snack-making. Food may stick to the metal trays. |
| COSORI Premium CP267-FD | Best value | Good Housekeeping named it best value. The official specification list includes six trays, digital controls, a 48-hour timer, and a 95–165°F temperature range. | Check that the retailer listing says CP267-FD and verify which accessories are included. |
| Presto Dehydro 06301 | Compact kitchens | Good Housekeeping named the Presto Dehydro its best compact model. | Tray count, wattage, temperature range, timer behavior, and current availability should be confirmed against the live listing before purchase. |
| Hamilton Beach 32100A | Beginners | Good Housekeeping found its tested unit easy to use, compact, and capable of evenly drying parsley and jerky. | It was the loudest machine in Good Housekeeping’s sound test, so noise-sensitive users should choose another model. |
1. Tribest Sedona Express: best overall for frequent users
The Tribest Sedona Express is the most polished choice of the four for people who expect to dehydrate regularly and want more control than a basic stackable machine provides. Good Housekeeping named it best overall after testing and reported that it dried apples and jerky efficiently and evenly.
Good Housekeeping also highlighted the Sedona Express’s glass door, multiple dehydration modes, customizable settings, built-in light, small footprint, and quiet operation. Those are useful qualities when a dehydrator will remain on the counter or run for long periods. A glass door also makes it possible to inspect progress without opening the chamber and releasing heat.
The main drawback is cost: this is a premium purchase, not the obvious choice for someone who plans to dry a few batches of herbs each year. Good Housekeeping also found that food can stick to the metal trays. A version with plastic trays is available, which may be preferable for some foods, but the exact tray configuration should be checked in the listing before buying.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose it if: you dehydrate frequently, value quieter operation and adjustable controls, and are willing to pay for a more refined appliance.
Skip it if: you mainly need an inexpensive starter unit or have no need for multiple modes and customized settings.
Retailer check: Before purchasing a Tribest Sedona Express, confirm the exact version, tray material, included accessories, current price, and stock status in the live listing.
2. COSORI Premium CP267-FD: best value
The COSORI Premium 6-Tray Stainless Steel Food Dehydrator CP267-FD is the practical middle ground. Good Housekeeping named the COSORI Premium its best-value dehydrator, making it the strongest choice here for shoppers who want useful capacity and digital control without moving to the highest-priced tier.

COSORI’s official product documentation lists six stainless-steel trays, a digital touch panel, a timer adjustable for up to 48 hours, a temperature range of 95–165°F, 600 watts of rated power, and overheat protection. The listed package also includes a fruit-roll sheet, a mesh screen, a recipe book, and a user manual.
That accessory bundle matters. A mesh screen helps contain small foods such as herbs, while a fruit-roll sheet supports purées and fruit leather. However, COSORI sells multiple dehydrator models and the exact contents of a retailer package can vary. Confirm that the listing is specifically for CP267-FD and that the fruit-roll sheet and mesh screen are included rather than treating every COSORI dehydrator as identical.

- 𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗘𝗧 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: With noise levels of less than 47 dB, the dehydrator operates quietly for peaceful use, even during sleep
The 48-hour timer is useful when a batch needs to run overnight. More generally, the National Center for Home Food Preservation notes that a timer can turn a dehydrator off when the cycle ends and help prevent scorching.
Choose it if: you want a capable all-purpose machine with six trays, digital settings, a long timer, and useful accessories.
Skip it if: you need a very small appliance, want premium cabinet-style capacity, or are comparing it with a different COSORI model that has not been reviewed here.
Retailer check: The exact product name to look for is COSORI Premium CP267-FD. Verify the model number and included fruit-roll sheet and mesh screen before ordering.
3. Presto Dehydro Digital Electric Food Dehydrator 06301: best compact pick
The Presto Dehydro 06301 is the sensible choice when the main constraint is storage or countertop space. Good Housekeeping named the Presto Dehydro its best compact dehydrator, so it is the clearest fit for apartment kitchens, occasional users, and anyone who does not want a large cabinet-style appliance.
Compact capacity is a trade-off rather than a defect. A smaller unit is easier to store, but it may require more batches when processing a garden harvest, a large quantity of fruit, or several rounds of jerky. Consider how much food you normally prepare before treating the lower footprint as an automatic advantage.

Skip it if: you regularly dry large harvests or want a verified large-capacity specification set.

- 𝟭𝟳𝟲 °𝗙 𝗠𝗔𝗫 𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘: Adjust the dehydrator between 95-176°F in 1°F increments. Higher temps ensure safer beef jerky. USDA recommends 165°F for safe jerky

Retailer check: Search for the exact Presto Dehydro 06301, then confirm that the live listing—not a similarly named Presto model—matches the product you intend to buy.
4. Hamilton Beach Digital Food Dehydrator 32100A: best for beginners
The Hamilton Beach 32100A is aimed at buyers who want a straightforward appliance rather than a large menu of advanced settings. Good Housekeeping reported that its tested unit was easy to use and compact, with five stackable trays, a fine-mesh sheet, a clear top, simple buttons, automatic shutoff, and continuous airflow.
In Good Housekeeping’s food testing, the Hamilton Beach produced evenly dried parsley and jerky. The fine-mesh sheet is particularly practical for herbs and other small pieces that could fall through larger tray openings. Stackable trays also make the format easy to understand for a first-time dehydrator owner.
Noise is the important caveat. Good Housekeeping identified the Hamilton Beach as the loudest machine in its sound test. If the dehydrator will operate near a bedroom, home office, or living area, that result should carry more weight than the simple controls. It is beginner-friendly, but not the quietest option in this group.
Choose it if: you want basic controls, easy loading, a compact footprint, and a relatively uncomplicated way to begin dehydrating.
Recommended Free Tools
Skip it if: you are sensitive to appliance noise or expect to run long batches in a shared living space.
Retailer check: Confirm that the listing is for the Hamilton Beach 32100A, not a different Hamilton Beach dehydrator with a similar appearance or name.
Large-capacity alternative: Excalibur DH08SCSS13
If you routinely process garden produce, large quantities of fruit, or multiple batches of jerky, consider a cabinet-style machine instead of one of the four primary picks. Excalibur’s official page lists the DH08SCSS13 with eight dishwasher-safe chrome trays, 7.2 square feet of drying area, an 85–165°F thermostat, an up-to-80-hour timer, French doors, horizontal airflow, a mesh tray, and a crumb tray.
That specification illustrates why usable drying area matters more than tray count alone. Eight large trays can provide a very different batch size from eight small trays. The long timer is also useful for extended unattended cycles.

Good Housekeeping separately named an Excalibur nine-tray model its large-capacity pick. Its testers liked that model’s adjustable temperature control and French doors but found it loud and heat-emitting. Those findings apply to the tested nine-tray model, not automatically to every Excalibur unit. The DH08SCSS13 and the tested nine-tray model should be treated as separate products until their specifications and performance are verified.
Consider the Excalibur if: batch size is more important than compact storage and you have a well-ventilated place for a larger appliance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose the right dehydrator
Start with batch size
Occasional snack makers and herb growers can usually prioritize footprint and storage. The Presto compact pick and Hamilton Beach beginner pick are the most natural starting points in this lineup.
Frequent users should look at total drying area, tray dimensions, and the physical space required around the appliance. Larger square or cabinet-style units are better suited to harvest preservation and repeated batches. Excalibur’s listed 7.2 square feet of drying area demonstrates the difference between a compact stackable design and a large-capacity cabinet format.

A timer is more than a convenience when drying continues overnight. It can stop the appliance when the selected cycle ends and reduce the risk of leaving food exposed to unnecessary heat. The COSORI CP267-FD lists a timer of up to 48 hours; the Excalibur DH08SCSS13 lists an up-to-80-hour timer.
Do not compare timer length in isolation. A long timer does not tell you how quickly a particular food will dry, and it does not make an appliance safe for raw-meat preparation without following the appropriate food-safety procedure.
Match accessories to the foods you make
- Mesh screens: useful for herbs, small pieces, and foods that could slip through tray openings.
- Fruit-roll sheets: useful for purées and fruit leather.
- Extra or replacement trays: helpful when the manufacturer explicitly supports them for the exact model.
- Dishwasher-safe trays: potentially easier to clean, but confirm that the manufacturer permits dishwasher use for the specific tray material.
COSORI’s CP267-FD documentation lists both a fruit-roll sheet and a mesh screen. NESCO’s official accessory catalog also lists model-specific add-a-trays, fruit-roll sheets, and mesh Clean-A-Screens. Do not assume that a tray or screen from one brand—or even one model family—will fit another. Accessory compatibility is model-specific and should be confirmed before ordering.
Account for sound and heat
Dehydrators can run for many hours, so noise and heat matter more than they would for a short-cycle kitchen appliance. Good Housekeeping found the Tribest Sedona Express quiet in its testing, while it characterized the Hamilton Beach as the loudest of the tested machines. Good Housekeeping also reported that its tested large-capacity Excalibur model was loud and emitted heat.

These are test observations, not guarantees for every production run or model variant. Still, they provide a useful decision rule: choose a quieter premium model for a shared living space, and reserve a larger, hotter cabinet-style appliance for a suitable, ventilated location.

Jerky safety: a dehydrator is not the whole safety step
For homemade shelf-stable jerky, USDA FSIS recommends heating meat to 160°F and poultry to 165°F before dehydrating. A dehydrator’s dry heat may not reliably destroy pathogens in raw meat or poultry.
Do not assume that a dehydrator makes raw meat safe simply because its thermostat reaches a particular displayed temperature. Follow USDA guidance and a tested recipe for preparation, heating, drying, cooling, and storage. The safety step belongs in the main workflow, not as an optional feature comparison.
Under the cited USDA FSIS guidance, home-dried jerky can generally be stored for one to two months, while commercially packaged jerky can be kept for up to 12 months. Treat those periods as guidance rather than a guarantee: ingredients, residual moisture, packaging, handling, and storage conditions all affect safety and quality.
What the testing covered
The recommendations synthesize recent independent testing from Good Housekeeping, WIRED, Consumer Reports, and TechGearLab, together with current manufacturer specifications. We did not conduct a new hands-on test for this guide.
Good Housekeeping says it tested nine dehydrators and evaluated ease of use and food results. Its reported results support the four primary labels used here: Tribest as best overall, COSORI as best value, Presto as best compact, and Hamilton Beach as beginner-friendly. WIRED describes testing fruit, meat, vegetables, fruit leather, dried flowers, and jerky. Consumer Reports describes testing Magic Mill, Hamilton Beach, and Excalibur models with fruit leather, beef jerky, and dried herbs. TechGearLab publishes a tested ranking that includes models from Magic Mill, Excalibur, COSORI, NESCO, Presto, Brod & Taylor, and others.
Those outlets did not necessarily test every model in this article, and one publication’s result should not be merged with another model’s specification. For that reason, hands-on findings above are explicitly attributed to Good Housekeeping, while manufacturer pages are used for product identity and listed specifications.
Before you buy: a short checklist
- Verify the model number: CP267-FD, 06301, and 32100A are not interchangeable with similarly named products.
- Check live price and availability: both are volatile and are not stated as fixed facts in this guide.
- Confirm what is in the box: especially fruit-roll sheets, mesh screens, tray materials, and extra trays.
- Measure the storage location: include door clearance and room for airflow around the appliance.
- Plan for sound and heat: a machine that runs overnight should be located where its noise and exhaust will not be disruptive.
- Follow the jerky safety step: heat meat to 160°F and poultry to 165°F before dehydrating, as recommended by USDA FSIS.
- Check accessory compatibility: never assume trays or screens are universal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a food dehydrator make raw meat safe for jerky?
No. USDA FSIS recommends heating meat to 160°F and poultry to 165°F before dehydrating because a dehydrator’s dry heat may not reliably destroy pathogens in raw meat or poultry. Follow a tested recipe and current food-safety guidance.
Which dehydrator is best for large batches?
The COSORI CP267-FD lists six trays and a timer of up to 48 hours. The Excalibur DH08SCSS13 lists eight trays, 7.2 square feet of drying area, and an up-to-80-hour timer. Tray count alone is not a complete measure of capacity, so compare usable drying area and tray dimensions.
Which food dehydrator is best if noise matters?
The Tribest Sedona Express was reported as quiet in Good Housekeeping’s testing. The Hamilton Beach 32100A was the loudest machine in that test, and Good Housekeeping also found its tested large-capacity Excalibur model loud.
What accessories are useful with a food dehydrator?
Mesh screens help contain small foods such as herbs, while fruit-roll sheets are designed for purées and fruit leather. Accessories are model-specific, so confirm compatibility before buying.

For the best overall experience, choose the Tribest Sedona Express. Choose the COSORI CP267-FD for the strongest balance of capacity, controls, and accessories; the Presto Dehydro 06301 when compact storage matters most; or the Hamilton Beach 32100A for simple beginner operation. Frequent harvest preservation may justify moving up to a large cabinet-style Excalibur, but verify the exact model and plan for more noise, heat, and storage space.
