Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor most buyers, the Bartesian Premier is the better cocktail machine to buy in 2026. It is the more current, better-supported system, has a lower-profile design, a concealed water reservoir, four strength settings, and access to Bartesian’s complete cocktail-capsule lineup. The U.S. Bartesian site listed it at $299.99 on sale, down from $399.99, when checked on August 10, 2026.
Choose the Bev by BLACK+DECKER only if you specifically want to connect five ordinary liquor bottles directly to the machine, prefer its bottle display and lighting, or find a new unit at a substantial discount from a reputable retailer. Bev remains described on BLACK+DECKER’s website, but availability is inconsistent and long-term replacement-unit support is less certain. It should be treated as an availability-risk or legacy option—not definitively discontinued, because no official discontinuation announcement was found.
The most important fact is that Bartesian and Bev are not separate cocktail ecosystems: Bev uses Bartesian capsules exclusively. The recipe catalog is therefore largely shared. The real comparison is hardware, bottle handling, interface, footprint, drink dilution, cleaning, availability, and support. Neither machine refrigerates a drink or completely replaces ice, shaking, straining, garnishing, and cleanup.
Bartesian vs. Bev at a glance
| Model | Price and availability checked August 10, 2026 | Spirit setup | Dimensions | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bartesian Premier | $299.99 sale price; $399.99 regular price on Bartesian’s U.S. site; actively sold | Four active spirit reservoirs; five 1-liter glass bottles supplied, with one available for swapping | 12.5 in H × 12.75 in D × 13.25 in W | Most households and buyers who want the safest current purchase |
| Bartesian Professional | $399.99 on Bartesian’s U.S. site; actively sold | Five 1-liter bottles supplied; four-spirit operating configuration with spare-bottle flexibility | 12.5 in H × 12.75 in D × 13.25 in W | Frequent entertainers, larger parties, and lockable bottle storage |
| Bartesian Duet | $299.99 on Bartesian’s U.S. site; actively sold | Two active 1-liter spirit bottles | 12.5 in H × 12.75 in D × 9.5 in W | Small counters and households that do not need Long Island drinks |
| Bev BEHB101, corded | Retail pricing and stock vary; current availability is inconsistent | Five direct liquor bottles plus water: vodka, whiskey, rum, gin, and tequila | Approximately 12.25 in W × 15.5 in H × 12.5 in D when assembled | Buyers who strongly prefer direct-bottle loading |
| Bev BCHB101, cordless | Availability varies; Walmart showed the model out of stock when checked | Same five-spirit arrangement; removable BLACK+DECKER battery and power-supply operation | Use the dimensions for the particular package; it has the same tall, bottle-forward design concept | Outdoor or portable entertaining, if a supported unit and battery package are available |
Older articles often compare Bev with a Bartesian model called the “Premium.” That naming can be confusing. The current consumer lineup described by Bartesian is centered on the Premier, Professional, and Duet; check the exact model before relying on an older review, price, or compatibility claim.
The key fact: Bev uses Bartesian capsules
Both machines use sealed Bartesian cocktail capsules. The capsules contain the nonalcoholic components—mixers, juices, bitters, extracts, and flavor ingredients—but do not contain alcohol. You supply the liquor.
- Load the required base spirits.
- Fill the water supply.
- Insert a sealed Bartesian capsule.
- The machine scans the capsule barcode and identifies the recipe.
- It draws the required spirits, water, and capsule contents.
- Select the desired strength, where available.
- Dispense into a glass or shaker.
- Serve over ice, or shake and strain when the recipe calls for it.
Bartesian’s setup guide and BLACK+DECKER’s Bev instructions describe the same basic automated-dispensing concept. The barcode identifies the recipe and selects the appropriate liquid lines; it does not confirm that the correct liquor is actually in each bottle or reservoir. Tequila in the vodka position will still produce the wrong drink.
Bartesian advertises more than 60 cocktails, while BLACK+DECKER describes Bev compatibility as 50-plus cocktails. Those numbers are not directly comparable: catalog counts can vary by region, promotion, seasonal products, and whether specialty capsules are included. The important compatibility distinction is at the model level. The four-spirit Premier and Professional support the full Premium Cocktail Capsule range, including multi-spirit Long Island recipes. The two-spirit Duet supports Bartesian Premium Cocktails except Long Island Iced Tea and the Long Island Collection.
#1 Best Overall
- SIMPLE COCKTAIL CREATION. Insert a capsule, place a glass on the bar mat and choose the preferred strength from mocktail to strong. The cocktail maker automatically draws the spirit from the bottle and crafts a perfect cocktail in seconds.
- EASY, INTUITIVE MENU SELECTION. The intuitive rotary dial makes navigation simple. Once the capsule is inserted, the cocktail is identified via barcode and the user-friendly LCD display suggests the proper glassware and provides strength options.
- ELEGANT, MODERN DESIGN WITH LIGHT: From the stylish touchpoints and effortless capsule latch to the LED light that highlights each cocktail as it’s crafted, Bartesian Professional Cocktail Machine makes every drink an event.
- BOTTLE LOCK LIMITS ALCOHOL ACCESS. The solid die-cast metal handle with key helps to secure the glass bottles of this cocktail maker in place, limiting breakage and access to alcohol.
- LESS TIME CLEANING, MORE TIME ENJOYING. The automatic rinse minimizes cleaning and prevents the previous cocktail's ingredients from mixing with the next one. Capsules pop up with spring assistance for quick removal and glass bottles are dishwasher safe.
Why the Bartesian Premier is the best overall choice
The Premier is the sensible default because it combines the current Bartesian ecosystem with the features most households actually notice: a relatively compact footprint, concealed water storage, guided operation, four strength settings, and access to the complete capsule range.

- Four strength choices: mocktail, light, regular, and strong.
- Five supplied 1-liter glass spirit bottles, while the machine operates with four active spirit reservoirs and leaves one bottle available for swapping.
- A rotary-dial interface on the current Premier rather than the touchscreen used by older Bartesian Classic/Premium models.
- Barcode recipe recognition.
- Guidance about the appropriate glassware and whether a drink should be shaken.
- A rear water reservoir that is hidden from normal view.
- Quick-removal capsule holders and access to current cleaning products, reservoirs, accessories, and support through Bartesian and its retailer network.
The bottle arrangement is both convenient and limiting. You can keep the common vodka, whiskey, rum, and tequila or gin configuration ready, but a four-spirit machine cannot keep every base spirit active at once. Switching between gin and rum, for example, may require changing a bottle or reservoir depending on the recipe and your setup. If you routinely make drinks from all five base spirits, Bev has the more convenient physical arrangement.
Premier versus Professional
The Professional costs $399.99 on Bartesian’s U.S. site and has the same published external dimensions as the Premier, but it is aimed at heavier use. It adds a 1.5-liter water reservoir, lockable bottle storage, a rotary-dial interface, and NSF/ETL certification. Bartesian claims capacity for up to 60 cocktails before reloading; actual yield varies with the recipes and selected strength.
Buy the Professional instead of the Premier when you host often, want to limit access to the liquor bottles, or value the larger water capacity. For ordinary home use, the Premier is usually the better value at its listed sale price.
Premier versus Duet
The Duet is the compact Bartesian. At 9.5 inches wide, it saves meaningful counter space while retaining the four strength settings and automated capsule operation. Its trade-off is substantial: only two spirit bottles are active, and it cannot make the Long Island Collection because those recipes need several base spirits.
The Duet is a good fit for a small kitchen, office break area, or couple that mainly drinks cocktails based on one or two spirits. It is not the right Bartesian if you want the broadest menu without manually changing bottles.
What Bev does better
Bev’s strongest practical advantage is its direct-bottle design. Instead of decanting liquor into supplied machine bottles, you connect the machine to standard liquor bottles—generally 750 mL or smaller—using bottle stoppers and straws.
Direct access to five spirits
The corded and cordless Bev models provide six liquid positions: water, vodka, whiskey, rum, gin, and tequila. That means all five common base spirits can remain connected simultaneously. The brand labels stay visible, which some owners will prefer to hidden or transferred liquor.
Direct loading also creates more variables. A bottle must fit upright between the platform and the top of the machine, and its height, width, neck opening, and stopper fit matter. WIRED reported fit problems with particular tall or wide-necked bottles. A poorly seated straw plug or stopper can interrupt dispensing. The manual also specifies that only water should go in the supplied water bottle and only the designated spirits should go in the spirit positions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCorded versus cordless Bev
The corded BEHB101 uses a manual strength dial and bottle-indicator LEDs. It includes a glass water bottle, six straws and straw tips, bottle stoppers, a cleaning brush, glass shelf, drip tray, and cleaning mode. Its manual states a two-year limited warranty for home use.
The cordless BCHB101 uses a removable BLACK+DECKER battery pack and can also run from its power supply. It adds adjustable color lighting and a lighting or party mode. The cordless manual says it can be used outdoors when powered only by battery, but it must not be exposed to rain or wet conditions. Confirm that the particular retail bundle includes the battery and charger; packages can differ.
Bev’s tall, open bottle arrangement can look more like a party station than the Bartesian’s integrated cabinet. It is also more visually busy, with exposed bottles and straws. A glass shelf accommodates shorter glasses, while taller glasses sit on the drip tray. A shaker LED indicates when shaking is recommended.
Bev’s setup is less polished
Once it is assembled, Bev is straightforward. However, Food Network found the manual harder to follow, citing small print, unclear diagrams, and frequent cross-referencing. It also found Bev’s black-on-black bottle labels more difficult to read than Bartesian’s labeled bottles.

Drink quality: neither machine wins every taste test
It would be inaccurate to say that Bartesian always tastes better or that Bev always makes a stronger drink. Published comparisons have reached different conclusions, and the difference is large enough that you may notice it from the same capsule.
In a 2023 Serious Eats comparison, Bartesian generally produced more balanced cocktails, while Bev tended to produce stronger or less-watered drinks. On some cocktails, Bev’s strongest settings produced a drink roughly an ounce smaller than Bartesian’s.
A later 2025 side-by-side test used the same capsules, settings, glassware, ice, and shaking time. The machines dispensed in approximately 24 and 25 seconds. In that test:
- The Bartesian margarita was bolder and more citrus- and tequila-forward.
- The Bev margarita was lighter and more muted.
- The Bartesian whiskey sour was more whiskey-forward and spiced.
- The Bev whiskey sour was sweeter at the front and more muted.
The defensible conclusion is that Bartesian and Bev produce noticeably different pours, but neither has a universal taste advantage. Bartesian is the safer recommendation for someone who prefers a fuller, more spirit-forward, or balanced drink. Bev may appeal to someone who prefers a sweeter, lighter, or less expensive machine. Treat that as a preference-based tendency, not a laboratory result.

Differences can come from the machine generation, recipe, spirit brand and proof, strength selection, capsule batch or formulation, ice quantity, shaking time, and the tester’s preference for sweet, dry, spirit-forward, or diluted cocktails.
Neither machine is a bartender or a refrigerator
“Cocktail in 30 seconds” should be understood as approximate dispensing time, not total time from unopened box to a finished bar cocktail. The machines do not actively chill the drink.
For a drink marked shaken, dispense into a shaker with ice, shake it, and strain it into the recommended glass. For a drink served over ice, use fresh ice. A chilled glass, adequate ice, and the recommended shaking step make a noticeable difference. The 2025 comparison found that skipping the shake left certain drinks insufficiently cold.
Neither machine is designed for fresh citrus, egg whites, herbs, custom bitters, vermouth adjustments, or arbitrary recipes. The mocktail setting provides a nonalcoholic dispense, but anyone relying on it should remember that the capsule formulation and residual liquid in the lines still matter; it is not the same as a separately cleaned, alcohol-free bar line.
Footprint: measure more than the published height
On the counter, Bev is taller: approximately 15.5 inches assembled, compared with about 12.5 inches closed for the Premier, Professional, and Duet. The Duet is also substantially narrower at 9.5 inches.
Closed height alone is not enough. Before buying, measure:
- Width, including space for Bev’s bottles and straws.
- Depth, including the rear water reservoir and power cord.
- Closed height.
- Open-lid height. Bartesian’s capsule lid needs additional overhead room; one comparison measured an older full-size Bartesian at about 18.5 inches with the lid open.
- Rear clearance to remove or refill the Bartesian water reservoir.
- Side and front clearance for placing a glass, shaker, or drip tray.
- Vertical bottle clearance if you will remove Bev bottles or use taller liquor bottles.
Do not install either machine where a cabinet door, shelf, or backsplash prevents the lid, reservoir, or bottle connections from being accessed. A smaller closed footprint does not always mean easier day-to-day placement.
Cost per cocktail: capsules are only part of the bill
A capsule machine is not automatically cheaper than a manually mixed cocktail. The fair calculation is:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Cost per drink = capsule + liquor + optional ice or garnish + machine cost amortized over expected use.
Examples from Bartesian’s U.S. store illustrate the capsule portion:
- A Margarita eight-pack listed at $19.60 works out to $2.45 per capsule before tax and shipping.
- A Classic Collection eight-pack listed at $24.96 works out to $3.12 per capsule.
- Bartesian press materials cite a broader range of $19.06–$24.96 for eight capsules, or approximately $2.38–$3.12 each.
The machine itself adds more or less depending on how often you use it. At the Premier’s $299.99 sale price, the machine contributes $6.00 per drink if you make 50 cocktails, $3.00 at 100 cocktails, or $1.50 at 200 cocktails. At the $399.99 regular price, those figures are approximately $8.00, $4.00, and $2.00. Add your chosen liquor, which can vary widely by brand and proof, plus ice, garnishes, cleaning supplies, and any shipping.
Bartesian advertises subscription savings of up to 35%, free shipping on subscription orders, and the ability to pause, skip, or cancel without a long-term commitment. Compare the subscription price with your actual drinking pattern rather than buying more capsules than you will use. There is no reliable cost comparison with Bev while Bev’s retail pricing and stock are inconsistent.
Cleaning and maintenance
Bartesian maintenance
Bartesian says the machine self-rinses after each drink and recommends running its Rinse/Clean function every 30 days. Bartesian also sells a cleaning solution intended for four full cleaning cycles and says it is compatible with all Bartesian Cocktail Makers.
Keep the capsule holder and barcode scanner clean, remove used capsules rather than leaving them in place, and use only water in the water reservoir. Do not put juice, mixer, club soda, or another liquid into the reservoir. Bartesian support notes that alcohol residue—particularly from whiskey and dark rum—can contribute to buildup around gaskets and lines.
Bev monthly line cleaning
Both Bev manuals recommend cleaning the liquid lines at least once a month. For the corded BEHB101, follow this sequence:
- Remove the capsule, but leave the capsule cup in place.
- Place a glass that holds at least 10 ounces under the dispenser.
- Remove all liquor bottles.
- Fill a glass with at least 2 ounces of water.
- Place a straw in the water and reinstall the straw in the machine.
- Repeat the water setup for every bottle position.
- Hold the cleaning-mode button for six seconds.
- Release it when pumping begins.
- Wait until all bottle LEDs indicate that cleaning is complete.
- Wipe the barcode scanner if it was splashed.
- Reinstall the liquor bottles.
For the cordless BCHB101, the process is similar, but the manual says to hold the cleaning-mode button for three seconds. On the corded model, the straws, bottle stoppers, capsule cup, drip-tray cover, and water bottle are top-rack dishwasher-safe after rinsing; confirm the manual for your exact model before putting parts in a dishwasher.
The maintenance difference is not simply “self-cleaning versus manual.” Bartesian automates a rinse after each drink but still needs a monthly cleaning cycle. Bev exposes more removable bottle hardware and requires a deliberate monthly line-cleaning routine.

Troubleshooting the problems buyers actually encounter
The capsule is not recognized
For either machine, check the simple causes first:
- Wipe the barcode scanner and capsule lid with a soft, dry cloth.
- Make sure the barcode is not wet, wrinkled, or creased.
- Center the capsule so it sits level.
- Confirm that the capsule holder is fully seated.
- Close and latch the lid until it clicks.
- Remove any used capsule left in the holder.
Bartesian’s barcode troubleshooting guidance and the Bev manual give substantially similar remedies. Do not use a third-party pod and assume the scanner will recognize it; Bev is specified for Bartesian capsules, and the Bartesian system is likewise built around its own capsule format.
A bottle runs out during a Bev drink
Do not power the Bev off. The machine enters a pause mode—two minutes according to the manual—so you can replace the empty bottle and press Mix to resume. Turning the machine off resets the process and may leave the capsule unusable.
The drink tastes too sweet
Sweetness is built into the capsule formulation and cannot be independently adjusted through the machine. You can add fresh citrus, extra ice, or dilution, but those changes reduce the convenience of the one-touch process. Independent reviews from Good Housekeeping and WIRED noted sweetness in some capsule drinks, while the head-to-head testing found Bev sweeter or more muted in some recipes.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The drink is too warm
Use plenty of ice, a chilled glass, and a shaker when the capsule or machine indicates that the drink should be shaken. Dispensing speed does not equal chilling speed.
The machine leaks or stops dispensing
Do not assume every leak proves a systemic design defect. Check for a dirty or mis-seated capsule holder, a wet scanner, a poorly seated Bev straw or stopper, an empty bottle, alcohol buildup in lines or gaskets, or an interrupted cycle. Remove a punctured capsule, run the appropriate rinse or cleaning cycle, and inspect the seals. Bartesian’s hardware support guidance covers incorrect dispensing, stuck gaskets, and related problems.
Warranty, returns, and availability
Bartesian
Bartesian provides a one-year manufacturer warranty in the U.S. and Canada. Purchases made through Bartesian.com have a 90-day money-back guarantee, but Bartesian applies a 15% restocking fee to open or used machines returned directly to the company. Purchases from another retailer follow that retailer’s return policy.
The practical advantage is current ecosystem support: Bartesian actively sells machines, capsules, accessories, cleaning solution, replacement reservoirs, and parts through its own site and retailer network.
Bev
The corded BEHB101 manual states a two-year limited warranty for defects in materials and workmanship when the machine is used at home. Commercial use voids that warranty, and it excludes abuse, accidental damage, unauthorized repairs, and accessories.
A longer written warranty does not necessarily make Bev the safer purchase today. BLACK+DECKER’s official pages still describe corded and cordless Bev models, but the visible Bev collection emphasizes accessories, and a Walmart listing showed the cordless BCHB101 out of stock when checked. User reports have claimed the machine may have been discontinued, but no authoritative BLACK+DECKER announcement confirming discontinuation was found. Verify the exact model, return window, replacement-part availability, and warranty process before buying clearance or marketplace stock.
Which machine should you buy?
Buy the Bartesian Premier if…
- You want the best current all-around purchase.
- You want the complete Premium Cocktail Capsule lineup.
- You prefer a lower-profile, more polished countertop appliance.
- You want concealed water storage and guided glassware and shaking instructions.
- You do not mind transferring liquor into supplied glass bottles.
- You prefer a controlled, potentially fuller or more spirit-forward pour.
- You want current accessories, cleaning products, replacement parts, and official support.
- You want to buy new rather than hunt for uncertain clearance stock.
Buy the Bartesian Duet if…
- Counter width is your primary constraint.
- You mainly drink cocktails based on one or two spirits.
- You accept that Long Island Iced Tea and the Long Island Collection will not work.
Buy the Bartesian Professional if…
- You entertain frequently or need the claimed capacity of up to 60 cocktails before reloading.
- You want a larger 1.5-liter water reservoir.
- Lockable alcohol storage and NSF/ETL certification matter to you.
- The $100 difference from the Premier is justified by your usage rather than appearance alone.
Buy Bev if…
- Direct use of ordinary liquor bottles is your top priority.
- You want vodka, whiskey, rum, gin, and tequila connected at the same time.
- You like visible spirit brands and decorative lighting.
- You want cordless or outdoor flexibility and can confirm that the battery package is included.
- You find a new unit from a reputable seller at a substantial discount.
- You are comfortable with exposed straws, bottle-fit restrictions, more manual setup, and uncertain long-term availability.
Skip both if…
- You make only one or two cocktails occasionally.
- You want the lowest possible cost per drink.
- You dislike sweet, pre-formulated drinks.
- You expect fresh citrus, egg whites, herbs, vermouth, bitters, or custom recipes.
- You expect a chilled, shaken, strained cocktail without using ice or a shaker.
- You already own a well-equipped bar and enjoy mixing manually.
Capsule storage and shelf life
Bartesian describes capsule dating as a presentation-quality guideline rather than a conventional safety expiration date. Its support article says the dating can range from two to eight months after receipt depending on the cocktail. Bartesian says refrigeration may extend presentation quality by about two months and freezing may preserve presentation for up to 12 months. These are the manufacturer’s storage and quality claims, not independent food-safety guidance; follow the product packaging and use your judgment about damaged, leaking, or compromised capsules.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Bev use different capsules from Bartesian?
No. Bev is designed to use Bartesian capsules, so the two machines share much of the same recipe catalog. The meaningful differences are the machine hardware, spirit loading, controls, dilution, footprint, maintenance, and availability.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Do Bartesian and Bev make cold cocktails automatically?
No. Neither machine actively refrigerates the drink. Use ice, a chilled glass, and a shaker when the recipe calls for shaking; dispensing in roughly 24–25 seconds is not the same as serving a finished chilled cocktail.
Can I use any liquor bottle in a Bev?
Not necessarily. Bev is designed for standard bottles of approximately 750 mL or smaller, and the bottle must fit upright and accept the supplied stopper and straw. Tall, wide-necked, or unusually shaped bottles may not fit or seal correctly.
Can the Bartesian Duet make every Bartesian cocktail?
No. The Duet has only two active spirit bottles and is incompatible with Long Island Iced Tea and the Long Island Collection, whose recipes require multiple base spirits.
Are Bartesian capsules cheaper than mixing cocktails myself?
Not automatically. A capsule typically costs about $2.38–$3.12 based on listed eight-packs, before liquor, ice, garnishes, shipping, cleaning supplies, and the machine. The fair comparison depends on your spirit choice and how many drinks you make.
The Bottom Line
Buy the Bartesian Premier for the best balance of current support, design, menu compatibility, and everyday convenience. Choose the Duet when counter space matters more than recipe breadth, or the Professional for frequent entertaining and lockable storage. Choose Bev only when its direct connection to five standard liquor bottles, lighting, or a genuinely good in-stock price outweighs its taller footprint, bottle-fit limitations, and uncertain availability. Whichever you choose, budget for Bartesian capsules, keep ice and a shaker nearby, and treat the machine as an automated dispenser—not a complete replacement for a bartender.
