The best cooling pillow depends on what you mean by “cooling.” Some pillows feel cool when you first lie down because they use a cool-touch cover or phase-change material. Others manage heat more gradually with breathable latex, ventilated foam, gel, graphite, moisture-wicking fabric, or an adjustable fill that reduces compression. No pillow should be assumed to stay actively cold for the entire night.

For most hot sleepers, the strongest starting points are the Saatva Latex Pillow for breathable, responsive support; the Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Gel Memory Foam Pillow for combination sleepers; the Coop Cool+ Adjustable Pillow for customizable loft; and the Casper Foam Pillow with Snow Technology for a pronounced cool-to-the-touch design. Side sleepers should pay particular attention to loft and shoulder clearance, while stomach sleepers generally need a lower profile.

The recommendations below follow the product categories and reported testing observations in Sleep Foundation’s 2026 cooling-pillow guide. ResearchCore did not physically test these pillows. Manufacturer specifications, prices, trial terms, and availability can change, so confirm those details on the current product listing before buying.

The table is a quick way to narrow the field. “Cooling method” describes the construction or material the brand or testing source associates with temperature management; it does not guarantee that the pillow will remain cold all night.

The 12 best cooling pillows of 2026

1. Saatva Latex Pillow: best overall for breathable luxury support

The Saatva Latex Pillow uses a shredded natural-latex core inside an organic-cotton cover. Saatva describes natural latex as breathable, and the two available loft choices make it easier to match the pillow to your sleeping position than a fixed-profile design.

We freshly manufacture our gel memory foam, avoiding the use of repurposed materials. Allow it to air out for about 1 or 2 days. With QUTOOL gel pillows, you can enjoy every peaceful night's sleep. It makes an great relaxation gifts for women men.

Sleep Foundation gave this model its “Best Overall” position in its 2026 cooling-pillow guide and described it as plush, responsive, durable, and breathable. Its buoyant feel is notably different from memory foam: the fill compresses, but it does not typically produce the same slow, deep sink. That makes it a strong choice for hot sleepers who want support without a dense foam block directly beneath the head.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best for: Most sleepers, combination sleepers, and people who dislike the enveloping feel of memory foam.

Watch-outs: Latex is not automatically cool in every bedroom, and the higher loft may be too tall for some stomach or smaller-framed back sleepers. Anyone with a known latex allergy should review the construction and consult the manufacturer before ordering.

2. Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Gel Memory Foam Pillow: best for combination sleepers

The Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Gel Memory Foam Pillow combines a cooling gel grid with adaptive memory foam and is offered in two lofts. Brooklyn Bedding also lists an Oeko-Tex-certified cover. Sleep Foundation reports that the pillow’s ventilated, copper-graphite-infused foam performed well in its temperature-control testing.

This is a practical match for combination sleepers because the two loft choices address different alignment needs, while the responsive foam can accommodate movement better than some very slow-sinking memory-foam pillows. The gel grid is designed to help manage heat, but it should be understood as part of a heat-dissipating construction—not as a refrigeration system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best for: Combination sleepers who want memory-foam support and more than one height option.

Watch-outs: Memory foam can still retain some warmth, particularly when compressed under the head and neck. Choose the loft based on your dominant sleep position rather than choosing the tallest option simply because it sounds more supportive.

3. Purple Harmony Pillow: best for responsive, airy support

The Purple Harmony Pillow places a Talalay-latex core inside Purple’s GelFlex Grid and uses a moisture-wicking mesh cover. Purple offers three height options. The grid, aerated latex, and breathable cover are intended to promote airflow and manage moisture.

The main reason to choose the Harmony is its feel. It is buoyant and responsive, so the head is supported without the slow, enveloping response associated with solid memory foam. That can work well for sleepers who change positions or feel trapped by dense foam. The Medium or Tall version may suit many side sleepers, while the lower option is more appropriate for people who sleep primarily on their back or stomach, subject to individual shoulder and neck dimensions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best for: Sleepers who want an airy, springy pillow with multiple height choices.

Watch-outs: Talalay latex and the grid feel unusual compared with conventional down, fiber, or memory-foam pillows. Side sleepers should check that the selected height fills the space between the shoulder and head without pushing the neck upward.

4. TEMPUR-Breeze ProHi or ProLo: best for contouring memory-foam support

The current TEMPUR-Breeze family includes two profiles rather than two fundamentally different pillow technologies: the TEMPUR-Breeze ProLo measures 5 inches, while the TEMPUR-Breeze ProHi measures 6.6 inches. Tempur-Pedic positions ProHi toward larger-framed people and side or combination sleepers. ProLo is aimed at stomach and back sleepers or anyone who prefers a lower profile.

This is the clearest choice here for sleepers who want memory foam to contour closely around the head and neck. The profile distinction matters more than the model name: a tall pillow can force excessive neck flexion for a stomach sleeper, while a low pillow may leave a side sleeper’s neck unsupported.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best for: People who prefer a close, pressure-relieving memory-foam feel and want a choice between high and low profiles.

It keeps your head and spine properly aligned, relieving morning stiffness and pressure pain for deeper, restful sleep.

Watch-outs: Contouring foam can feel warmer than more open, buoyant materials. Do not choose ProHi solely because it is the more substantial version; match the height to body size, shoulder width, mattress firmness, and sleeping position.

5. Coop Cool+ Adjustable Pillow: best customizable cooling option

The Coop Cool+ Adjustable Pillow is built for shoppers who cannot easily predict the right loft. Coop lists gel-infused memory foam, microfiber fill, a cool-touch outer cover, and phase-change material. The fill can be added or removed, and the pillow is available in classic, crescent, and cut-out shapes.

Adjustability is especially useful for combination sleepers. Removing fill can lower the head, reduce compression, and make the pillow less heat-retentive; adding fill can provide the extra height a side sleeper needs. The ability to tune the pillow also makes this a sensible option for couples or sleepers whose preferred position changes over time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Coop lists a 100-night guarantee, a five-year warranty, CertiPUR-US certification, and GREENGUARD Gold certification for this model. Confirm the current terms, eligible configurations, and care instructions before ordering because commercial policies can change.

Best for: Combination sleepers and anyone uncertain about the correct loft.

Watch-outs: Adjustable fill requires experimentation. Make changes gradually and allow enough nights to judge neck alignment. The cool-touch cover may feel cold initially, but that tactile sensation is different from maintaining a lower temperature throughout the night.

6. Casper Foam Pillow with Snow Technology: best for phase-change cooling and ergonomic contouring

The Casper Foam Pillow with Snow Technology combines an ergonomically curved foam center with softer outer layers, four HeatDelete bands, and phase-change material. The cover is removable and washable according to Casper’s product information.

Casper markets its Snow system as providing “12-plus hours” of temperature regulation. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified result, so it should not be treated as proof that the pillow will remain cold for a full night in every bedroom or for every sleeper. The design is most compelling for people who want an immediately cool surface but still prefer the structured, contouring feel of foam.

Best for: Hot sleepers who prioritize cool-to-the-touch materials and ergonomic foam support.

Watch-outs: Phase-change materials absorb or redistribute heat near the surface; they do not actively cool like an air conditioner. Foam can also feel warmer as the sleeper’s head compresses the pillow.

7. Helix GlacioTex Cooling Memory Foam Pillow: best for back and stomach sleepers

The Helix GlacioTex Cooling Memory Foam Pillow is reported in two profile versions: approximately 4.75 inches for back and stomach sleepers and approximately 5.25 inches for side sleepers. Its reported construction includes a copper-infused memory-foam core and a GlacioTex phase-change cover.

The lower version is the more important feature for stomach and back sleepers. Excessive loft can bend the neck backward for back sleepers or force it to rotate upward for stomach sleepers. Side sleepers, by contrast, generally need more height to bridge the shoulder-to-head gap, which is why Helix’s thicker version may be the better starting point for that position.

Best for: Back and stomach sleepers who want memory foam without a tall profile; side sleepers can consider the thicker version.

Watch-outs: Confirm which profile is being ordered. “GlacioTex” describes the phase-change cover technology, not a promise of all-night active cooling.

It makes an great relaxation gifts for women men.

8. Eli & Elm Cotton Side-Sleeper Pillow: best shoulder-friendly design

The Eli & Elm Cotton Side-Sleeper Pillow uses a U-shaped design. The lower concavity creates room for the shoulder, which can be useful when a conventional rectangular pillow pushes against the shoulder or forces the head too far forward.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sleep Foundation describes the fill as a combination of shredded latex or memory foam with polyester fiber, and the cover as a cotton blend. Its testing reported that the breathable fill and cover helped limit heat retention. Because the fill is adjustable, the sleeper can tune the height while preserving the shoulder cutout.

Best for: Side sleepers with broad shoulders, shoulder discomfort from standard pillows, or a tendency to crowd the pillow.

Watch-outs: The U-shape is specialized and may feel awkward for people who move frequently between the side and stomach. A shoulder cutout does not replace proper loft: the head should remain level with the spine.

9. Sweet Zzz Plant-Based Pillow: best for neck-support seekers

Sleep Foundation places the Sweet Zzz Plant-Based Pillow in its neck-pain category and reports plant-based fill along with cooling-oriented performance. That makes it a reasonable model to investigate for shoppers who rank neck support above a pronounced cold-to-the-touch sensation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because fill composition, loft, warranty, and price can change independently of an editorial ranking, verify those details on the current product page before publication or purchase. The category label should not be interpreted as a medical claim: a pillow may improve alignment or comfort for some people, but it does not diagnose or treat neck pain.

Best for: Sleepers seeking a neck-support-focused pillow with a plant-based positioning.

Watch-outs: Confirm the current materials and height, then compare them with your sleep position. Anyone with persistent, severe, or radiating neck pain should seek clinical advice rather than relying on a pillow change alone.

10. Layla Kapok Pillow: best value among adjustable natural-fill options

Sleep Foundation names the Layla Kapok Pillow its value pick and reports an adjustable fill with a soft, moldable feel. Its natural-fill positioning may appeal to shoppers who want a less rigid alternative to solid foam and need to remove or add material to refine the loft.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This pillow belongs in the breathable-material conversation, not the active-cooling category. Kapok and other natural fibers can feel less heat-retentive than dense foam in some conditions, but that does not mean the pillow continuously draws heat away from the sleeper. Its value is more likely to come from adjustability, softness, and material preference.

Best for: Value-conscious shoppers who want an adjustable, moldable natural-fill pillow.

Watch-outs: Verify current fill details, loft range, cover care, warranty, and price. A soft pillow can lose effective support if too much fill is removed, particularly for side sleepers.

11. Cozy Earth Silk Pillow: best luxury fiber option

Sleep Foundation lists the Cozy Earth Silk Pillow as its luxury cooling pick. Silk and breathable textile construction offer a different route to comfort from foam-based cooling: the emphasis is on a soft surface, moisture management, and a less dense fiber feel rather than a gel grid or phase-change layer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is a fit for sleepers who dislike the shape-holding behavior of foam or who value premium fibers. It should not be described as actively refrigerating the head. The practical cooling benefit depends on the fill, cover, room temperature, bedding, and how much the pillow compresses.

Best for: Shoppers who want a luxury textile pillow and do not need an aggressively contoured foam design.

Watch-outs: Confirm the current profile and care instructions. Fiber pillows may require periodic refluffing and may not provide the same stable cervical support as a contoured foam pillow.

12. Luxome LAYR Customizable Pillow: best modular adjustability

Sleep Foundation names the Luxome LAYR Customizable Pillow its customizable pick. Its main advantage is modular adjustability: instead of accepting one fixed feel, the sleeper can tune the internal components to find a more suitable loft and firmness.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That design is useful when a sleeper changes positions, shares a bed with someone who needs a different setup, or is unsure whether a soft, medium, or firmer pillow will maintain alignment. It also lets the buyer pursue a lower-compression configuration that may feel less warm than an overstuffed pillow. Confirm the current fill components, cover construction, price, and care instructions on the manufacturer’s listing.

Best for: Sleepers who want to fine-tune loft and feel rather than choose a fixed-profile pillow.

Watch-outs: Modular adjustability can involve trial and error. Keep the unused components in a clean, dry place and make one change at a time so you can tell which configuration improves comfort.

How cooling pillows actually manage heat

Active-feeling cooling

Cool-touch covers and phase-change materials are designed to produce the most noticeable surface sensation. A cool-touch textile can feel chilly when it first contacts the skin. A phase-change material is intended to absorb or redistribute heat near the surface as conditions change. That initial sensation can be useful for hot sleepers, but it is not the same as continuously lowering the pillow’s temperature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Casper’s claim that its Snow system provides 12-plus hours of temperature regulation is a brand claim. It should be presented separately from Sleep Foundation’s reported test observations and should not be generalized to every sleeper or bedroom.

Heat-dissipating construction

Gel grids, gel-infused foam, graphite, copper, ventilation channels, and open-cell structures are generally intended to spread heat or improve airflow through the pillow. Brooklyn Bedding’s gel grid and ventilated copper-graphite-infused foam, Purple’s GelFlex Grid, and Coop’s gel-infused foam are examples of this approach.

“Designed to dissipate heat” is the accurate promise. Once a pillow is compressed beneath the head, airflow can be reduced, and the room, pillowcase, bedding, and sleeper’s body temperature still affect the result.

Breathable materials

Natural latex is generally more breathable than dense synthetic foam and has a buoyant feel. Saatva’s shredded latex is the clearest example in this group. Silk, kapok, cotton, and breathable fiber constructions can also feel less enclosing and may manage moisture differently from foam.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Breathability does not necessarily create a cold surface. It means the material is less likely to trap heat under the same conditions. For a sleeper who dislikes the feeling of a warm pillow but does not need a cold first touch, breathable latex or a luxury fiber pillow may be a better choice than a phase-change cover.

Why adjustability matters for cooling

Adjustable pillows are relevant to temperature as well as alignment. Removing excess fill can reduce the amount of material compressed beneath the head. It may also prevent the neck from being pushed too high, which can reduce pressure and improve comfort. Coop, Eli & Elm, Saatva, and Luxome represent this approach in different ways.

Adjustment is not a guarantee of better cooling. It simply gives the sleeper more control over the variables that influence heat retention: loft, compression, and the amount of fill surrounding the head.

Choose by sleeping position

Side sleepers

Start with enough loft to fill the gap between the mattress and the side of the head. A pillow that is too low lets the head tilt toward the mattress; one that is too high pushes it away. Good starting points include TEMPUR-Breeze ProHi, Purple Harmony Medium or Tall, Brooklyn Bedding’s higher loft, Saatva’s higher loft, Eli & Elm’s shoulder-accommodating shape, and Helix’s thicker side-sleeper version.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Mattress firmness matters. A softer mattress allows the shoulder to sink farther, which can reduce the loft required. A firm mattress usually requires more height. Adjustability is valuable if you are between sizes.

Back sleepers

Back sleepers generally need a medium or lower profile that supports the natural curve of the neck without forcing the chin toward the chest. Consider TEMPUR-Breeze ProLo, Brooklyn Bedding’s lower loft, Casper’s contoured design, the Helix back-and-stomach version, or Saatva’s standard loft. Test alignment with the head centered rather than propped forward.

Stomach sleepers

Choose a low profile and resist the assumption that a taller pillow provides more support. A thick pillow can increase neck rotation and extension when you sleep on your stomach. TEMPUR-Breeze ProLo, Brooklyn Bedding’s lower loft, and Helix’s approximately 4.75-inch back-and-stomach version are the most directly aligned with this need. Some stomach sleepers prefer a soft, compressible fiber or adjustable pillow that can be made very low.

Combination sleepers

Combination sleepers benefit most from multiple heights, adjustable fill, or a responsive material that does not hold one position too rigidly. Coop Cool+, Purple Harmony, Saatva, Brooklyn Bedding, and Luxome LAYR are the clearest fits. Make the pillow supportive enough for your side position but not so tall that it strains your neck when you roll onto your back.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose by preferred feel

  • You dislike memory foam: Start with Saatva Latex, Purple Harmony, Cozy Earth Silk, or Layla Kapok. Latex is responsive, silk is textile-based, and kapok is soft and moldable.
  • You want a cool-to-the-touch surface: Prioritize Casper Foam Snow, Coop Cool+, Helix GlacioTex, Purple Harmony, and Brooklyn Bedding. Treat the first-touch sensation separately from overnight temperature regulation.
  • You want close contouring: Look at TEMPUR-Breeze, Casper, Helix, or Brooklyn Bedding. Choose the profile according to your position and frame.
  • You are unsure about loft: Choose an adjustable or modular design such as Coop Cool+, Eli & Elm, Layla Kapok, or Luxome LAYR.
  • You want the least complicated construction: A breathable latex or fiber pillow may be easier to understand and care for than a pillow combining foam, grids, and phase-change textiles.

Care, returns, certifications, and allergy considerations

Care

  • Follow the product’s care label before washing anything. Removable covers are often washable, but foam and latex cores generally should not be put in a washing machine or dryer unless the manufacturer specifically says they can be.
  • Use a breathable protector or pillowcase rather than sealing the pillow inside a nonbreathable cover that undermines its surface feel.
  • Keep foam and latex away from prolonged direct heat and allow any new-pillow odor to dissipate in a well-ventilated room if the manufacturer recommends it.
  • For adjustable pillows, store removed fill or inserts in a clean, dry container and make changes gradually.
  • Wash the cover at the recommended temperature and dry it completely before putting it back on the pillow. Damp textile layers can create odor and damage.

Returns and trial periods

Trial periods and warranties are product-specific and can vary by configuration, promotion, geography, and time. Coop lists a 100-night guarantee and five-year warranty for the Cool+ model, but confirm the current terms and any exclusions before purchase. Do not assume that one brand’s return policy applies to all twelve pillows.

For a pillow that arrives compressed, allow it to expand according to the instructions before judging loft or feel. Keep the packaging and proof of purchase until you are sure you will keep it. A pillow can feel wrong simply because it has not fully expanded, but persistent neck strain after a reasonable adjustment period is a reason to use the return policy rather than force the fit.

Certifications and allergies

Coop lists CertiPUR-US and GREENGUARD Gold certifications for the Cool+ pillow, while Brooklyn Bedding lists an Oeko-Tex-certified cover. These certifications address particular material, emissions, or textile standards; they are not proof that a pillow is cool, hypoallergenic, or suitable for every allergy sufferer.

People with latex sensitivities should investigate latex-containing models such as Saatva, Purple Harmony, and potentially Eli & Elm before buying. Covering a pillow does not necessarily remove exposure to an internal latex component. People sensitive to fragrances or foam odors should check the manufacturer’s material disclosures and ventilation recommendations.

How this list was assembled

This article separates three kinds of information:

  1. Sleep Foundation’s reported testing and categories: Sleep Foundation says its team has tested more than 300 pillows and selected ten current cooling-pillow picks across categories such as overall, combination sleepers, side sleepers, neck pain, value, temperature regulation, luxury, back and stomach sleepers, softest, and customizable. Product-level testing observations and category labels in this article are attributed to that publication.
  2. Manufacturer specifications: Construction details such as gel grids, latex cores, phase-change covers, profile choices, certifications, warranties, and guarantees come from the brands’ product information as summarized in the research dossier.
  3. Editorial interpretation: The position-by-position advice explains how loft, compression, responsiveness, and material choice may fit different sleepers. It is not a substitute for independent lab testing or medical advice.

ResearchCore did not physically test these pillows and has not assigned invented scores, cooling measurements, or first-person impressions. Prices, stock status, exact materials, profiles, and policy terms are volatile and should be checked immediately before publication or purchase.

A cooling pillowcase can help—but it is not a replacement for the pillow

If the pillow’s surface is the main problem, a cooling pillowcase or breathable pillowcase can change the first-touch feel and help manage moisture. It cannot turn a heat-retentive pillow into an actively refrigerated one, and a tightly woven or nonbreathable cover may reduce the benefit of an airflow-focused design. Treat the case as an accessory to the pillow, not as a substitute for choosing the right loft and material.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a cooling pillow stay cold all night?

Usually, you should not expect that. Cool-touch covers and phase-change materials can provide a noticeable initial sensation and may help manage heat near the surface. Latex, ventilation, gel, graphite, and breathable fibers are intended to dissipate or retain less heat, but room temperature, bedding, compression, and the sleeper’s body temperature still determine how the pillow feels overnight.

What is the best cooling pillow for side sleepers?

Start with a higher loft or a shoulder-friendly design. The TEMPUR-Breeze ProHi, Purple Harmony Medium or Tall, Brooklyn Bedding high loft, Saatva high loft, Eli & Elm Cotton Side-Sleeper Pillow, and Helix’s thicker side-sleeper version are reasonable starting points. The correct choice depends on shoulder width, mattress firmness, and whether the head remains level with the spine.

Are latex pillows cooler than memory-foam pillows?

Natural latex is generally more breathable and buoyant than dense memory foam, so it may feel less heat-retentive. That does not guarantee a cold surface or all-night cooling. Memory-foam pillows with ventilation, gel, graphite, copper, or phase-change covers can also manage heat, but they usually retain the contouring feel of foam.

Can a cooling pillow help with neck pain?

It may help if the pillow’s loft and firmness improve spinal alignment, but cooling alone does not treat neck pain. The Sweet Zzz Plant-Based Pillow is placed in Sleep Foundation’s neck-pain category, and adjustable models can help tune height. Persistent, severe, or radiating pain should be evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional.

The Bottom Line

For the broadest combination of breathability, support, and position flexibility, start with the Saatva Latex Pillow. Choose the Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Gel Memory Foam Pillow for adaptive foam and two lofts, the Purple Harmony Pillow for buoyant airflow-focused support, or the Coop Cool+ Adjustable Pillow when the right height is still uncertain. For the strongest cool-touch emphasis, compare Casper Snow, Helix GlacioTex, and Coop—but remember that a cool initial feel is not the same as guaranteed coldness throughout the night.
