Thanko’s OTBOWASHM2 is an electric twin-brush dishwashing aid, not a dishwasher that cleans a load unattended. You place each dish between two powered brushes and support it as it rotates. Thanko says the brushes clean both sides at once and that a dish can be washed in about three seconds; those are manufacturer claims, not independently verified test results.
How the Thanko electric dishwashing brush works
The OTBOWASHM2 holds two powered brushes on a grip. To use it, connect its power box to an outlet, switch it on, place a dish between the rotating brushes, and support the dish as it turns. Hold it securely and remove it when finished. The device does some of the scrubbing, but you still handle every dish.
Thanko’s official page uses the headline “皿が勝手に回って自ら洗う!?”—approximately, “The dish rotates by itself and washes itself!?” That wording is playful: it does not mean the appliance loads, washes, or unloads dishes on its own.

Is it a dishwasher, a brush, or something in between?
Think of it as powered assistance for washing dishes by hand. Unlike a sponge or ordinary hand brush, the motor turns the brushes; unlike a dishwasher, the OTBOWASHM2 does not take a batch of dishes and wash them unattended. Thanko positions it between those options, but its product page does not provide independent time trials or a controlled comparison.
- Hands-on work: You must place, support, and remove each dish. It may suit someone who wants help with scrubbing but does not mind handling dishes one at a time.
- Cleaning action: Thanko says the twin brushes work on the inner and outer surfaces at the same time. The source does not establish how well the device cleans different dish shapes or soils.
- Setup and space: The unit includes a power box, grip stand, and roughly 900 mm hose. Check the listed component dimensions and your sink or counter arrangement before deciding whether it fits your workspace.
- Electrical and water exposure: The power box is not waterproof, so the work area and handling need care around water.
- Ongoing supplies: Thanko lists soft (yellow) and hard (blue) replacement brushes for this product. Their availability can depend on the seller and time of purchase.
Care and safety cautions
Thanko says to dry the brushes after use. The manufacturer warns that the power box is not waterproof and says not to press the power switch with wet hands. It also cautions against disassembly, impacts, and use or storage near high heat, high humidity, or open flame. Follow the Japanese instruction manual supplied with the unit for its operating details.

Who should consider the Thanko dish scrubber?
The OTBOWASHM2 is worth considering if you want an electric brush to assist with handwashing and are comfortable placing and guiding each dish. It is a poor fit if “automatic” means loading a rack and walking away, or if you need proven cleaning performance across a range of dish sizes: Thanko’s page does not provide independent testing or compatibility results for particular shapes.
