The easiest safe way to remove super glue depends on where it landed. For skin, soften the bond with warm, soapy water and work it loose gradually; for a household surface, use a remover or solvent only if it is compatible with that material. Treat glue near the eyes, mouth, or other sensitive areas as a health exposure—not a cleanup job—and contact a poison center for guidance.
Why super glue sticks so quickly
Super glue is cyanoacrylate, an adhesive that rapidly polymerizes when it encounters moisture. That reaction lets it bond skin and other surfaces quickly, but it also means methods that are safe for one material may be harmful to another. Separate body exposures from household cleanup, and check the adhesive and surface product labels before using a solvent.
How to remove super glue from skin and fingers
Start with warm, soapy water. Soak the bonded area, then gently roll or move the skin back and forth as the bond softens. Do not yank, pry, or pull bonded skin apart; doing so can tear or injure it. Loosening may take hours, so patience is safer than force.
If water alone is not helping, Poison Control lists mineral oil, vegetable oil, petroleum jelly, isopropyl alcohol, and acetone as possible options for skin. Use any solvent cautiously and keep it away from the face, eyes, and mucous membranes. Acetone can dry skin; the Original Super Glue Corporation advises washing and moisturizing after using it. For a large exposure, significant pain, or another concerning reaction, contact a poison center or seek medical advice rather than trying to remove the glue aggressively.

What to do if super glue gets in or near an eye
Do not force the eyelids open, pull glued tissue apart, or apply acetone, alcohol, or another solvent near the eye. Rinse the eye with water for 15 minutes and contact a poison center for case-specific advice. Seek medical care, especially if glue may be on the eyeball, or there is pain or vision trouble. Poison Control describes eyelid bonds taking days to loosen; do not treat that illustrative case as a typical recovery time.
In the United States, Poison Control can be reached through webPOISONCONTROL or at 1-800-222-1222. Contact details and recommendations differ by location, so elsewhere use your local poison center or emergency service.

If glue bonds lips or gets in the mouth
Do not pull glued lips or other tissue apart. Water may weaken a lip bond, and saliva may loosen it over hours to days. If glue is in the mouth, consult a poison center for guidance instead of trying to force it off.
How to remove super glue from clothing and fabric
Check the garment’s care label and test any treatment on an inconspicuous area first. The manufacturer describes applying acetone and brushing the glue away in layers, but warns that removal may be incomplete and acetone can discolor fabric. Stop if the fabric’s color or finish changes.

Keep wet cyanoacrylate away from cotton and wool. The reaction with these materials can release enough heat to cause burns. Do not use cotton or wool to wipe up a fresh spill.

For cured glue, a dedicated cyanoacrylate adhesive remover may soften the deposit so it can be rubbed, brushed, or sanded away. The Original Super Glue Corporation recommends protecting clothing and nearby work surfaces, allowing its remover to penetrate, then removing the softened adhesive. Thick deposits may need repeat applications and mechanical removal. Follow the exact product label.

That manufacturer’s remover must not be used on acetate-based plastics or painted surfaces, and it may attack some other plastics. Test an inconspicuous spot before treating a larger area. Acetone is another method the manufacturer describes for some counters, tables, and floors, but it can mar laminated wood. Check surface compatibility and follow both the adhesive-remover and surface-care instructions; never assume a solvent safe on one finish is safe on another.
