The global steam-turbine parts market is estimated at USD 6.25 billion in 2025, rising to USD 6.52 billion in 2026 and USD 9.61 billion by 2035, equivalent to a 4.4% compound annual growth rate from 2026 to 2035. Those figures are Global Growth Insights’ 2026 estimate for replacement and refurbished physical components only. They do not represent the larger markets for complete turbines, maintenance contracts, field service or all aftermarket work.
What the steam-turbine parts market includes
A steam-turbine parts market estimate covers physical replacement and refurbished components used to keep installed turbines operating. Typical products include blades, rotors, bearings, seals and gaskets, casings, shafts, governors, generators, control systems and sensors. Demand comes from planned outages, corrective repairs, refurbishment and modernization rather than from a single annual equipment purchase.

Market size and outlook through 2035
The parts-specific estimate indicates steady, installed-base-led growth rather than a sudden expansion in new turbine construction. Replacing worn components, restoring lost efficiency and extending the useful life of existing assets creates recurring demand. The 4.4% CAGR applies to the Global Growth Insights series from 2026 through 2035; the 2025 and 2026 values are the publisher’s stated annual estimates.
Growth can be stronger in service or MRO statistics because those categories add labor, engineering, inspections, outage management, diagnostics and modernization contracts. A higher service-market number therefore does not contradict the smaller physical-parts estimate.
Which components generate the most demand?
Blades and rotors dominate the cited parts estimate. Their shares are type-level proportions, not percentages of every turbine’s maintenance budget.

| Component category | Share or role | Procurement considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Blades | Approximately 41% of type-level parts demand (Global Growth Insights, 2026) | Requires correct stage geometry, metallurgy, coatings, balance and configuration records |
| Rotors | Approximately 34% of type-level parts demand (Global Growth Insights, 2026) | Large forgings, dimensional control, balancing and inspection can determine lead time |
| Bearings, seals and gaskets | Recurring wear and leakage items | Material compatibility, clearances, temperature and pressure ratings are critical |
| Casings and shafts | Major pressure-boundary and rotating-assembly items | Often require specialized machining, non-destructive testing and outage coordination |
| Governors, generators, controls and sensors | Control, electrical and monitoring categories | Compatibility with legacy controls and plant cybersecurity requirements can limit substitutes |
A nominally interchangeable part can fail if its dimensions, metallurgy, heat treatment, balance or control interface does not match the turbine’s exact configuration. Buyers normally provide the turbine model, serial number, drawing revision, operating history and inspection findings before accepting a quotation.
Applications and end users
Power generation represents approximately 64% of parts demand in the cited estimate. Industrial applications represent about 27% and include refining, petrochemical, chemical, manufacturing, cogeneration and process-steam plants. The balance consists of other or less separately reported uses.
Utility and cogeneration operators typically plan parts around annual or multi-year outages. Process industries may prioritize availability and short turnaround because a turbine outage can interrupt production as well as electricity or steam output. Nuclear and other regulated facilities add documentation, traceability and quality-system requirements to the technical specification.

United States MRO context
A separate U.S. steam-turbine MRO estimate from Emergen Research puts that market at USD 4.40 billion in 2025 and USD 8.51 billion by 2035, a 6.8% CAGR. It covers utility, industrial, cogeneration and nuclear turbine fleets and includes the wider MRO activity rather than only physical parts. It should therefore not be substituted for the global parts estimate.

What is driving demand?
- Aging installed fleets: Older turbines need replacement blades, seals, bearings, rotors and control components even when the plant remains economically valuable.
- Scheduled outages: Planned inspections create predictable procurement windows. The parts source estimates that about 63% of procurement is influenced by scheduled maintenance cycles; this is a publisher estimate, not an audited industry statistic.
- Life extension: Operators can defer full replacement by refurbishing pressure parts, rotating assemblies and balance-of-plant controls.
- Efficiency restoration and modernization: Upgraded flow paths, improved seals, digital monitoring and control replacements can recover output or reduce heat rate.
- Predictive maintenance: Vibration, temperature, oil-quality and performance data help operators order parts before a forced outage.
- Inspection-repair-replacement packages: Coordinating non-destructive testing, machining, balancing and installation increases the value of each outage project.
Constraints and procurement risks
- Large forgings and high-alloy castings can have long lead times.
- Coal-plant retirements reduce some demand, even as surviving plants receive life-extension work.
- Engineering qualification, traceability and sector-specific quality systems can exclude otherwise capable suppliers.
- Outage dates are difficult to move, so a late rotor, blade or casing can create disproportionate financial exposure.
- Exact turbine configuration matters; generic consumer-style replacement assumptions are unsuitable.
Approximately 31% of specialized orders reportedly require dimensional adaptation, metallurgy adjustment, reverse engineering or configuration-specific manufacturing. That figure is also a publisher estimate and should be treated as an indication of customization intensity, not a universal benchmark.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.OEMs versus independent service providers
Competition is divided between original equipment manufacturers with proprietary designs and independent service providers (ISPs) that repair, reverse-engineer, machine and balance parts for specific configurations. The right choice depends on the turbine’s age, documentation, risk tolerance, outage schedule and regulatory environment.

Fuel mix and the installed-fleet opportunity
A Triveni Turbines annual-report exhibit citing the McCoy Report 2024 states that fossil-fuel generation represented 76% of the global steam-turbine market in 2024, compared with 73% in 2014. This is a broader steam-turbine-market measure, not a parts-only share. It nevertheless illustrates why maintenance and life-extension work remains relevant while some fossil units retire: the remaining fleet still requires qualified components, and steam turbines also serve nuclear, biomass, geothermal, solar-thermal and industrial applications.
How to evaluate a parts order
- Define the asset: Record manufacturer, model, serial number, stage or location, drawing revision and operating duty.
- Document the condition: Attach inspection reports, photographs, vibration trends, clearances, material findings and failure history.
- Classify the requirement: Decide whether the need is a new OEM part, approved repair, refurbishment, reverse-engineered replacement or a modernization upgrade.
- Set outage constraints: Specify required delivery, installation, balancing, testing and contingency dates.
- Verify quality: Confirm material certificates, inspection methods, traceability, dimensional reports and any regulated-sector approvals.
- Compare the whole scope: Evaluate engineering, machining, field labor, warranty, performance commitments and logistics rather than unit price alone.
This process reduces the risk of ordering a dimensionally similar component that cannot be safely installed or qualified.
2035 outlook
The parts market’s most defensible growth case is recurring aftermarket demand from installed turbines: scheduled maintenance, refurbishment, efficiency restoration, digital diagnostics and life extension. Growth will vary by region and fleet. Retirements can shrink demand for particular coal models, while industrial steam, cogeneration, nuclear and modernization programs support other segments. Because published figures use different scopes, any 2035 plan should identify whether it measures parts, MRO, service or complete turbine revenue before comparing growth rates.
