What work is planned at the school?
DECYP’s project page describes a $15.1 million redevelopment intended to provide contemporary learning environments, support spaces and amenities. In its 2026 submission to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works, DECYP says the school was established in 1967 and describes its buildings and site infrastructure as nearly 60 years old. The department identifies inflexible learning rooms, limited storage and covered outdoor access, inadequate space for professional support services, ageing utility infrastructure, recurrent sewer blockages and roof leaks, outdated bathrooms, and original windows affecting airflow, insulation, acoustics and drafts. These are DECYP’s reported project needs, not independent inspection findings.

These are planned design features, not completed works or guarantees of performance. The official tender description is broader than the design submission, so bidders must use the RFT documents—not the public project summary—to determine what is actually being sought and priced.

These are reported funding and budget estimates, not the tender award, final contract sum or actual expenditure. The $9.397 million construction estimate should not be substituted for the $10.5 million prequalification threshold: they are separate figures serving different purposes.
What is the construction timeline?
The eTender notice gives an estimated contract period from 11 January 2027 to 1 September 2028. DECYP’s 2026 parliamentary submission forecasts contractor appointment in January 2027, construction commencement in February 2027, construction completion in October 2028, defects liability through October 2029 and project finalisation in December 2029. It anticipates 20 months of staged construction intended to minimise disruption to school operations, with the final construction program and staging to be determined after contractor appointment.

DECYP’s project page says construction is expected to start in 2027, but its timeline says construction is expected to be completed in 2029 while its summary fields give expected completion in 2028. The 2026 submission distinguishes construction completion in October 2028 from later defects liability and project finalisation. The public project page is internally inconsistent, so no single definitive completion date can be taken from it. Check the live tender and subsequent official updates for the current program. An earlier November 2024 government release forecast construction from 2026 to 2028; that predates the later tender and project materials.
What did the community consultation identify?
DECYP’s attached 2024 Community Engagement Outcomes Report records 47 unique online feedback forms. Among those respondents, 32 (68%) selected flexible or multipurpose spaces among their top three design priorities, 26 (55%) selected classroom size and 23 (49%) selected breakout spaces. On desired look and feel, 35 respondents (74%) selected “welcoming,” 28 (59%) selected “safe” and 20 (42%) selected “inclusive.” These are counts and shares of consultation respondents, not representative estimates of the wider community.
