Start by identifying the symptom: no power, power but no TV sound, Bluetooth that will not connect, skipping or noise, or a display stuck on “Please Wait” or dashes. Check the outlet, selected input, TV audio output and cable connections before resetting anything. Write down the soundbar’s exact model number first; Sony’s menus and reset steps vary by model.
Before troubleshooting: identify the soundbar and symptom
Find the model number on the soundbar, its label or its documentation. Then note what happens: no lights or power, power but no sound, TV audio missing over one connection, Bluetooth pairing trouble, intermittent or noisy sound, or a frozen display. Sony treats these as distinct problems, so the fix for one may not address another. The Sony soundbar troubleshooting guide separates power or freezing, no sound, sound skipping or noise, USB recognition and Bluetooth pairing issues. These are Sony USA support pages; for model-specific instructions, use the support page and manual for your product and region.
If the soundbar will not turn on
- Check that the power cord is firmly connected at the soundbar and outlet.
- If it is plugged into an extension cord or power strip, connect it directly to a working wall outlet to isolate the strip. Test the outlet with another device.
- Unplug the soundbar for at least 20 minutes, then reconnect it and try turning it on. This is the power reset Sony describes in its no-power troubleshooting article.
- If it still does not work, look up the factory-reset procedure in the Help Guide or Operating Manual for the exact model. Do not use another model’s button combination.
If these steps do not restore power, Sony says professional service may be required. A reset cannot resolve every hardware fault.
If it powers on but there is no TV sound
Check the input, TV output and connections
- Set the soundbar to the input used by the TV connection.
- Confirm the TV is set to send audio to the soundbar or the relevant external audio output. Check that neither device is muted and that the volume is audible.
- Reseat the cable at both ends. For HDMI ARC, connect the soundbar to the TV’s HDMI port labeled ARC (or eARC where supported), not just any HDMI port.
- Check both devices’ manuals for the required settings and menu names. Supported features and paths vary by TV and soundbar model.
Sony’s ARC setup and troubleshooting guidance covers model-specific connection issues. If the existing HDMI cable is visibly damaged, or a careful connection check points to it, try a compatible replacement; first verify the port and feature requirements in both manuals.

If sound stopped after an update
If the problem began after a software update that added eARC support, check the TV manual to see whether the TV supports eARC. Sony advises turning eARC off on the audio device when the TV is not compatible. The setting name and menu path depend on the product, so follow the instructions for your soundbar rather than assuming a universal route. See Sony’s post-update no-audio guidance.
If Bluetooth will not connect
Confirm Bluetooth is enabled and follow the pairing instructions for your exact soundbar and TV. Do not copy reset or enablement button combinations from another model.

For the HT-S100F only, Sony describes enabling Bluetooth by holding Power, Input and minus-volume for more than 10 seconds. Its separate reset combination uses Power, Input and plus-volume. These steps are not universal; verify that your model is the HT-S100F before trying them. See Sony’s Bluetooth connection guidance and your model’s manual.
If sound skips or there is noise
Check whether the issue occurs with one source or connection, and confirm the cable is seated at both ends. If it happens over HDMI, optical or Bluetooth, use the instructions for that connection and model in Sony’s troubleshooting guide. Avoid factory-resetting the soundbar as a first step when the symptom is limited to one connection.

If “Please Wait” or dashes stay on the display
- Disconnect HDMI and optical devices and disconnect the soundbar from the network.
- Unplug the soundbar, wait, then reconnect it and check whether the display clears.
- Check for a software update using the instructions for the exact model.
- If the display remains stuck, follow the model’s manual for a factory reset.
Sony recommends these steps for a persistent “Please Wait” message or dashes. If the display does not recover, Sony says repair may be required.
