Offscape’s CampLight Pro is a portable outdoor lantern that uses millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar-based presence detection instead of a conventional passive-infrared (PIR) motion sensor. Designed for camping, vanlife, overlanding, outdoor work and temporary site lighting, it combines adjustable illumination with smartphone control, magnetic mounting, USB-C charging, solar-assisted charging and power-bank functionality.
The radar approach could make the lantern more useful when someone approaches a tent, vehicle or work area—or pauses nearby—but it does not make the product a professional security system, and there is no independent public testing proving that it is more accurate than every PIR light.

What is Offscape CampLight Pro?
CampLight Pro is a portable lantern from Munich-based startup Offscape. Its main distinction is a claimed mmWave radar sensor designed to detect human movement and presence, including subtler movement than a basic walk-by light might recognize.

How mmWave radar differs from PIR
Most motion-activated outdoor lights use passive infrared, or PIR, sensors. PIR sensors detect changes in infrared radiation from warm objects moving through different zones in their field of view. They are inexpensive, mature and widely used, but they generally respond to movement rather than simply to a person remaining present.
For example, a person walking across a PIR sensor’s detection zones may trigger a light, while someone who stops moving can eventually disappear from the sensor’s response. Performance can also vary with mounting angle, ambient temperature, body movement and the surrounding environment. Animals, moving vegetation and sudden heat changes may cause unwanted activation.
MmWave radar emits high-frequency radio waves and analyzes the reflected signals. Depending on the sensor and its software, it can detect movement and smaller presence-related changes, such as slight body movement or breathing. Offscape presents CampLight Pro’s radar as a next-generation alternative to ordinary PIR detection.

Public information does not provide independently measured detection accuracy, false-trigger rates, detection zones or range for CampLight Pro. Claims that it eliminates false triggers or always outperforms PIR would go beyond the available evidence.

What radar could improve outdoors
Outdoor environments are difficult for simple motion lights. A camper approaching a vehicle at night, someone sitting near a tent or a worker moving around a temporary work area may benefit from a light that can recognize presence rather than only a large movement across a sensor’s zones.
Radar also works in darkness and is not dependent on a clear optical view in the same way as a camera-based system. That makes the technology potentially useful for:
- Lighting a path as someone approaches a tent or van
- Keeping a campsite or outdoor work area illuminated while people remain nearby
- Providing temporary approach lighting without leaving the lamp permanently on
- Detecting activity without recording images
However, mmWave is not automatically immune to false alarms. New Atlas reports that high sensitivity can create problems, including reactions to wind-blown leaves, reflections from large hard surfaces and movement beyond the intended area. Radar may reduce some PIR limitations while introducing a different set of installation and filtering challenges.

The combination makes it more versatile than a fixed wall lantern. A magnetic mount could be useful on a metal vehicle, while an adapter or strap could place the light on a tent structure, post or temporary construction surface. The adjustable module can direct light as a spotlight or spread it through the diffuser for area illumination.
Specifications: what is confirmed and what is reported
The official material available for this product does not state a specific IP rating, battery capacity, lumen output, runtime table, charging wattage or radar range. Those details should be checked against the final manufacturer datasheet before making a purchase decision.
Separately, iXBT Live reports campaign specifications of approximately a 10,000-mAh battery, 3–24 hours of runtime depending on brightness, about 2.5 hours for USB-C charging, dimensions of roughly 16.5 × 14 × 5.3 cm, a weight of approximately 845 g and a 1/4-inch tripod thread. These should be treated as secondary, campaign-reported figures rather than independently confirmed final specifications.

Radar can detect the wrong thing
Wind-blown leaves, reflective surfaces and movement outside the intended area may activate the light. Large hard surfaces can reflect radar signals and alter the effective sensing zone. Radar may also detect movement inside a building or through some materials in certain installations, although that behavior should not be assumed for every wall, structure or mounting position.

More activity means more battery use
A crowded campsite or busy work area may keep the lamp active for long periods. High brightness, frequent triggers, Bluetooth use and cold weather can all reduce practical runtime. The solar panel should be viewed as a charging supplement, not a guarantee of indefinite operation. Shade, cloud, dirt, mounting angle and seasonal sunlight will affect its contribution.
Bluetooth is not cloud control
Offscape identifies Bluetooth as the connection method. That means app control should not be interpreted as unlimited remote access from anywhere. The available material does not establish Wi-Fi, cellular connectivity, cloud notifications or control outside Bluetooth range.
Weather resistance needs a specific rating
“IP-rated” water resistance does not automatically mean that the lantern can be submerged or exposed to every form of heavy storm. Confirm the exact IP rating and the manufacturer’s operating guidance before using it in a permanently exposed location.
Where it fits on a construction site
For construction, maintenance and temporary outdoor work, CampLight Pro could be useful as a movable task or approach light around vehicles, material storage, temporary access routes and after-hours work areas. Its magnetic mounting and power-bank function may reduce the need for separate accessories, while the spotlight and diffuser offer different ways to illuminate a work zone.

It should not, however, be treated as a substitute for required site lighting, emergency egress lighting, access control, cameras or alarms. Detection behavior must be tested at the actual mounting location before relying on it to illuminate a hazard or identify unauthorized activity.
Availability and crowdfunding status
Availability: The Kickstarter campaign launched on February 24, 2026, and ended on March 25, 2026. Campaign trackers record approximately €68,932 raised against a €10,000 goal, with slightly different totals depending on the tracker. New Atlas reported an estimated August 2026 shipping start. That was a target, not confirmation of delivery. Final retail availability, post-campaign pricing and current stock should be confirmed directly with Offscape.
BackerTracker and Kicktraq record the campaign as funded and closed. New Atlas reported launch pledges from €149, but that was a crowdfunding pledge and should not be presented as a guaranteed current retail price.
Who should consider it?
CampLight Pro is most interesting for campers, vanlifers, overlanders and early adopters who want one portable device for area lighting, spotlighting, approach detection and occasional device charging. The mmWave concept is particularly relevant to people who want a light to remain responsive when someone pauses near a campsite or vehicle.
A conventional PIR lantern or wall light is likely the better choice for buyers who need a cheaper, familiar product from a normal retailer. Fixed smart-home fixtures, such as connected Zigbee outdoor lanterns, are more appropriate for permanent installations integrated into a home automation system. Neither category offers the same combination of portable mounting, solar-assisted charging and radar-based presence sensing.
What to check before buying
- Whether the product is shipping to ordinary customers or remains limited to backers
- The final retail price and warranty terms
- The exact IP rating and exposure limits
- Confirmed battery capacity, runtime by lighting mode and charging time
- Whether the battery can be replaced or serviced
- Radar detection range, adjustment controls and filtering options
- Actual Bluetooth operating range and app availability
- Availability of replacement accessories and long-term support
- Whether the intended mounting surface could create radar reflections or unwanted detections
Verdict
Offscape CampLight Pro is notable because it applies mmWave presence sensing to a portable camping lantern rather than simply adding another PIR trigger to a fixed outdoor light. Its magnetic, adjustable design, app control, solar assistance, diffuser and power-bank output make it potentially useful for outdoor recreation and temporary work lighting.
The trade-off is uncertainty. Public material does not independently verify its detection advantage, range or false-trigger performance, and the product emerged from a crowdfunding campaign rather than an established retail ecosystem. It is worth considering as an innovative first-generation outdoor light for early adopters—not as a proven security system or an automatically better replacement for a conventional PIR lantern.
