It introduced the Hue Bridge Pro, lower-cost Hue Essential bulbs, redesigned and new light strips including OmniGlow, additional Festavia string lights, and expanded Hue Secure and software plans.
For U.S. buyers, the most important update is the price correction: Signify originally announced the Bridge Pro at $98.99, but Philips Hue’s U.S. store currently lists it at $139.99. That makes it a worthwhile upgrade mainly for large Hue installations or owners who specifically want Bridge-Pro features such as MotionAware—not an automatic replacement for every standard Bridge.

What Signify announced
Signify’s announcement covered four connected parts of the Philips Hue strategy:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- More powerful control: the Hue Bridge Pro increases system capacity and adds features such as MotionAware.
- A lower-cost entry point: the Hue Essential range brings Hue-compatible bulbs and starter products to more buyers.
- More decorative lighting: new and redesigned strips, OmniGlow, Festavia variants and additional outdoor products expand Hue beyond conventional bulbs.
- Broader automation and security: Signify previewed software involving spatial awareness, AI and Hue Secure.
Some products were new launches, while others were refreshed designs, expanded product families or announced software capabilities. They should not all be treated as equally significant or equally available in every market.

Hue Bridge Pro: what changes?
The black Hue Bridge Pro is a controller upgrade for larger or more advanced Hue systems. Signify says its Hue Chip Pro has a processor five times more powerful and 15 times more memory than the previous Bridge. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent benchmark results.
Philips Hue advertises support for 150+ lights and 50+ accessories, compared with the smaller limits shown for the standard Bridge. Signify also says the Bridge Pro can store more than 500 custom lighting scenes. The extra capacity is intended to support larger homes, more complex automations and future features.
The Bridge Pro connects over Ethernet, so buyers need a suitable wired network connection and reliable local connectivity. It is advertised as compatible with existing Philips Hue products and with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung SmartThings. Compatibility with the hub does not necessarily mean that every Bridge-Pro feature works with every older bulb or accessory.
MotionAware is not a conventional motion sensor
MotionAware uses compatible Hue lights to detect movement and can trigger occupancy-based lighting. That could be useful in hallways, rooms and other areas where automatic lighting is the goal.
It is not the same as installing a dedicated infrared motion sensor. Results can depend on compatible lights, firmware, app support, room placement and wireless conditions. Treat it as a lighting and occupancy feature rather than a security-grade sensor replacement unless current Philips Hue documentation explicitly supports that use case.
Hue Bridge versus Hue Bridge Pro
| Feature | Hue Bridge | Hue Bridge Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Advertised light capacity | 50 | 150+ |
| Advertised accessory capacity | 12 on Philips Hue’s U.S. accessories page | 50+ |
| MotionAware | Not advertised as a Bridge feature | Yes |
| Design | Existing white Bridge design | New black design |
| Best fit | Small and medium systems | Large installations and advanced features |
| Observed U.S. price | Check the current store | $139.99 |
Capacity is not a guarantee of identical performance in every home. Wireless interference, network layout, automation complexity and third-party integrations can still affect responsiveness.

What is the Hue Essential range?
Hue Essential is Signify’s lower-cost route into the Hue ecosystem. The announced U.S. range included A19 bulbs, BR30 bulbs, a five-meter strip light and starter kits using the standard Hue Bridge V2.
The original announcement listed A19 pricing from $24.99 to $59.99, BR30 pricing from $24.99 to $39.99 and a five-meter strip at $59.99. Those were launch figures for 2025, not guaranteed current prices. Philips Hue’s current U.S. pages list Essential A19 and BR30 products, including an Essential BR30 shown at $24.99.
One current Essential BR30 listing specifies 650 lumens and 7.2 watts. Some Hue bulbs can also be controlled directly over Bluetooth, but the Bridge is needed for broader whole-home control and ecosystem features.
The lower price comes with a buying question: compare brightness, dimming, color performance, form factor, included accessories and compatibility with the features you actually want. “Cheaper Hue” does not automatically mean identical performance to premium Hue bulbs.

OmniGlow, Festavia and the decorative lineup
The refresh also targets buyers who want architectural, seasonal or ambient lighting rather than ordinary smart bulbs.

SpatialAware, AI security and future software
Signify also announced software intended to make Hue more aware of its environment. Hue SpatialAware was described as analyzing room layout and light placement to improve scenes, with spring 2026 availability announced for Bridge Pro users.
Signify separately announced AI-powered facial recognition for Hue Secure to help reduce false alerts and personalize responses. The announcement establishes the planned capability, not universal availability. Rollout may depend on region, account, firmware, app version, supported devices and any applicable subscription requirements.
Check the current Hue app and support documentation before buying the Bridge Pro solely for a future feature. Announcement timing is not proof that a feature is live for every customer.

Who should buy the Bridge Pro?
Buy it if:
- Your installation is approaching the standard Bridge’s advertised limit.
- You have many rooms, switches, sensors or other accessories.
- You specifically want MotionAware.
- You want Bridge-Pro-exclusive features such as SpatialAware when available.
- Your current Bridge is overloaded or no longer handling a complex setup well.
- You are building a large new Hue installation.
Keep the standard Bridge if:
- Your system is small and reliable.
- You mainly use basic app control, voice commands, schedules and scenes.
- You do not need MotionAware or extra capacity.
- The price difference matters more than future features.
- Your existing third-party integrations work well and migration risk is undesirable.
The Bridge Pro does not make existing bulbs brighter or automatically improve their color quality. It is primarily a controller upgrade: it can increase capacity, support more complex system behavior and enable new features, but it does not change the lumen output, beam pattern or power consumption of an old bulb.

Essential bulbs make sense for buyers who want Hue’s app and ecosystem at a lower entry price, especially when outfitting many standard sockets. Premium Hue bulbs remain the better choice when brightness, color consistency, specialized form factors, entertainment synchronization or broader decorative effects matter more than upfront cost.
For a single room, compare the total cost of the bulb, Bridge, switches and sensors—not just the price of one lamp. Starter-kit discounts and bundles can also change the calculation.
Migration and compatibility checks for existing owners
Signify said existing Bridge settings could be transferred with a few clicks and that support for combining multiple Bridges into one Bridge Pro would arrive before the end of 2025. Treat those as Signify’s announced migration claims unless the current support documentation confirms the exact process.
Before replacing a working Bridge:
- Update the Hue app, Bridge firmware and bulb firmware.
- Confirm that the existing hub is a current Bridge V2 rather than the obsolete first-generation model.
- Record important rooms, scenes, schedules and automations.
- Check whether third-party apps and integrations need to be reauthorized.
- Plan for possible reauthorization in Matter, Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home or SmartThings.
- Keep the old Bridge available temporarily until the new setup is tested.
- Confirm that the new hub has an Ethernet connection and stable local network access.
Do not assume every automation migrates perfectly simply because the lights are compatible. The practical upgrade risk is often in integrations and routines, not in the bulbs themselves.

Alternatives to consider
| Alternative | Why consider it | Main trade-off versus Hue |
|---|---|---|
| Low-cost Wi-Fi bulbs | Lower upfront cost and no dedicated hub | Potentially greater cloud dependence and weaker ecosystem cohesion |
| Matter or Thread bulbs | Cross-platform interoperability | Features vary by controller, firmware and ecosystem |
| IKEA smart lighting | Lower-cost whole-room installations | Different app, accessories and feature set |
| Nanoleaf | Decorative lighting and Matter-oriented products | Less direct equivalence to Hue’s mature lighting ecosystem |
| Govee | Effects-focused strips and value pricing | Different platform and interoperability model |
| Zigbee systems with a dongle | Local control and hardware flexibility | More configuration and maintenance responsibility |
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Signify’s Hue refresh gives new buyers a cheaper Essential entry point and gives large installations a more capable Bridge Pro. At the current U.S. price of $139.99, the Bridge Pro is a targeted upgrade—not a requirement for owners whose standard Bridge is reliable and comfortably within its limits.
