Samsung’s Audio Sync is a manual delay control. It postpones sound so dialogue matches the actors’ mouths when audio reaches you first. It cannot automatically correct every timing problem, and the button sequence differs by soundbar model. Start by identifying whether sound is early, late, duplicated, or delayed only by one source.
What Audio Sync actually fixes
Use a dialogue-heavy scene or a visible handclap to compare sound with the picture. If you hear the clap before you see it, audio is ahead and adding delay is usually appropriate. If the sound follows the movement, adding positive delay can make the error worse; look for a television or source-device delay that can be reduced instead.

- Audio ahead of video: add a small soundbar delay and retest.
- Audio behind video: reduce a TV-side or source-side delay, change an output mode, or remove a processing step.
- Echo or doubled dialogue: the TV speakers and soundbar may be playing together with different processing times.
- Intermittent mismatch: the app, channel, HDMI device, or audio format may be responsible.
- Sync that worsens over time: suspect source or device processing rather than a fixed soundbar offset.
Audio Sync changes timing only. It does not improve sound quality, repair an HDMI handshake, or remove all wireless latency. Samsung describes the feature and its model-dependent controls in its soundbar lip-sync troubleshooting guide.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Before changing a setting
- Make the soundbar the intended TV output and turn TV speakers off unless you deliberately use a coordinated mode.
- Choose one repeatable scene and one source. Pause and restart it after every adjustment.
- Do not use Bluetooth while evaluating an HDMI or optical connection.
- Write down the original delay value before experimenting.
- Change only a few steps at a time; never jump directly to the largest available value.
Test the TV’s built-in app separately from a cable box, game console, Blu-ray player, or streaming box. A problem on only one path usually points to that source or its settings, not the soundbar.

How to adjust Samsung Soundbar Audio Sync
Samsung uses several remote layouts. The exact buttons, range, and display behavior depend on the HW- model, so use the model’s manual if none of these patterns matches your remote.
Method 1: Sound Control
- Press Sound Control on the soundbar remote.
- Use Left/Right to find the sync or delay item.
- Change the value incrementally.
- Replay the same test scene and stop when the movement and dialogue align.
Method 2: Dedicated Audio Sync button
- Press Audio Sync.
- Use Skip Forward/Backward to increase or reduce the delay.
- Test after each change rather than holding the button until the maximum.
Method 3: Audio Sync plus and minus
- Press Audio Sync + or Audio Sync −.
- Make small changes and replay the same scene.
Samsung lists all three control patterns and directs owners to the model-specific manual. Some models provide a 0–300 ms range, as documented for the Q800B, but that range must not be assumed for every Samsung soundbar.
TV settings that can add or remove delay
The soundbar’s Audio Sync value is separate from the television’s own controls. Depending on model and software, look for Sound Output, Digital Output Audio Delay, digital output format (such as PCM, Auto, Pass-Through, or bitstream), Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC), and HDMI eARC Mode. Menu names vary by model year, region, and firmware.

Current Samsung eARC setup example
- Press Home.
- Open Settings or All Settings.
- Go to General and select External Device Manager.
- Turn on Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC).
- Return to Settings > Sound/Audio > Expert Settings.
- Set HDMI eARC Mode to Auto.
- Connect the soundbar to the television’s HDMI ARC/eARC port and select the soundbar’s D.IN input if your model requires it.
This is Samsung’s current example path, not a universal menu map. Its eARC instructions are at Samsung’s eARC support page.
Choosing the connection
| Situation | Best first choice | Benefit | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compatible Samsung TV and soundbar | HDMI eARC | One-cable TV audio and the greatest bandwidth | Requires compatible ports, settings, cable, and a reliable handshake |
| Older ARC television | HDMI ARC | Convenient audio return and HDMI-CEC control | Lower bandwidth and more compatibility constraints than eARC |
| ARC/eARC repeatedly fails | Optical | Simple fallback with fewer HDMI-CEC interactions | Reduced format capability and different delay controls may apply |
| Wireless TV connection | Avoid Bluetooth when lip sync matters | No cable | Samsung says Audio Sync is unavailable for Bluetooth |
| External box or console is late | Test direct HDMI routing and its audio settings | Isolates the source of the delay | May require changing switching or surround settings |
ARC sends television audio to the soundbar over HDMI. eARC has greater bandwidth and can carry formats Samsung lists—including Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and DTS-HD Master Audio—when every device and the content support them. Both ports must support eARC, and Samsung recommends an eARC-compatible HEAC or HEC HDMI cable. eARC can improve capability without guaranteeing perfect lip sync.
Optical avoids many HDMI-CEC complications but does not provide eARC’s bandwidth or control features. Samsung explicitly excludes both Bluetooth and USB sources from its soundbar Audio Sync function. If USB media is connected to the TV rather than the soundbar, its signal path and available TV controls may differ.

Complete troubleshooting sequence
- Identify the source: compare a built-in TV app with one external HDMI device.
- Confirm output: ensure the TV is not also using its internal speakers.
- Inspect wiring: use the TV’s ARC/eARC socket and the soundbar’s HDMI TO TV ARC/eARC socket.
- Select the input: choose D.IN; after a successful handshake, many models change the display to TV ARC/eARC. See Samsung’s connection guide at Samsung Korea.
- Verify Anynet+ and eARC: use the TV path above.
- Power-cycle: turn off the TV, soundbar, and source; disconnect power briefly; reconnect the soundbar and TV, then the source.
- Simplify the format: temporarily choose PCM or another simpler output. If timing improves, format conversion or passthrough processing is implicated.
- Adjust one control: record the TV delay and soundbar value; change only one at a time.
- Remove external devices: test the TV and soundbar alone. Samsung recommends disconnecting external devices while diagnosing ARC/eARC operation; see Samsung’s ARC guide.
- Check updates: install current TV and soundbar software using the procedures for your exact models.
- Reset last: a soundbar reset can erase paired devices and custom settings.
- Use the manual: Samsung’s procedure and button mapping are model-specific.
Cases in which Audio Sync will not solve the problem
Bluetooth or USB playback
Samsung states that Audio Sync is unavailable when Bluetooth or USB is the soundbar source. Bluetooth latency therefore cannot be corrected with the normal Audio Sync control. Use HDMI ARC/eARC or optical for a conventional TV connection when timing is critical.

Surround or Atmos only
Test PCM or stereo temporarily. If the mismatch disappears, investigate passthrough, format conversion, or compatibility among the source, TV, and soundbar.

Console-specific timing
Game mode, display processing, and the console’s audio output can alter perceived timing. Test the console independently and follow its documented audio settings.
TV speakers plus soundbar
Simultaneous output can create an echo rather than one simple offset. Q-Symphony is Samsung’s compatible-TV-and-soundbar speaker-coordination feature; it is not the same as Audio Sync. Samsung discusses the distinction in its soundbar buying guide.

Should you replace the soundbar?
Buy a different model only after isolating the TV, source, and connection. A newer or more expensive bar does not automatically cure a delay introduced by an app, broadcast, console, or television processor. Replacement makes sense when your hardware lacks the required ARC/eARC connection, cannot pass the formats you need, has no workable model-specific sync control, or remains unreliable after isolation, cabling, updates, and reset.

Practical rules to remember
- A larger sync number is not automatically better.
- Do not test an HDMI problem over Bluetooth.
- Never change TV and soundbar delays simultaneously without recording both values.
- eARC improves bandwidth and capability but does not eliminate source processing delay.
- Keep TV speakers off unless simultaneous playback is intentional and supported.
- Check the exact manual whenever the remote lacks the expected button.
The Bottom Line
Use Audio Sync as a small, model-specific delay adjustment when sound arrives before video. First isolate the source, use HDMI ARC/eARC where practical, keep TV and soundbar delays separate, and treat Bluetooth, USB, app-specific, and format-specific problems as different diagnoses.
