There is no evidence-backed overall winner among Ryobi, Craftsman and Hyper Tough. For a homeowner choosing a cordless system, Ryobi has the largest stated catalog among the published counts available here; Craftsman offers a broad V20 lineup and a published three-year limited warranty for qualifying hand-held tools; and Hyper Tough has 20V drill kits and brushless tools listed at Walmart. The better choice depends on the specific tool, battery platform, kit contents, warranty and support—not the brand name alone.
What the published comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The available information supports a comparison of platform breadth, selected drill kits, battery compatibility and some warranty and service terms. It does not establish which brand makes the best-performing drill: there is no controlled, model-matched head-to-head test of equivalent tools from all three brands. Catalog size is useful for judging platform choice, but it is not a performance score.

For a construction or home project, start with the job: drilling pilot holes, driving fasteners, boring larger holes or working in masonry can call for different tool types. Compare like with like, such as compact drill/driver kits against compact drill/driver kits. A compact drill and a hammer drill are not equivalent just because both are cordless drills.
How the three cordless platforms compare
| Brand and platform | Voltage label and stated breadth | Example and evidence limits |
|---|---|---|
| Ryobi ONE+ | 18V; Ryobi says the platform has more than 300 compatible products. Ryobi ONE+ product collection and Ryobi 18V ONE+ Batteries. | Ryobi offers an 18V ONE+ multi-tool kit and product-specific support. The cited count is Ryobi’s own and may change; it is not an independently audited count. |
| Craftsman V20 | 20V; Craftsman says the system has over 100 products. Craftsman V20 cordless tools and outdoor equipment. | The V20 Brushless RP compact drill/driver kit, model CMCD714D1, is listed with a 2.0Ah battery and charger. Check the current listing and box contents before buying. |
| Hyper Tough | 20V products are listed by Walmart, including a 20V brushless category; a comparable total catalog count was not established. | A Walmart listing describes a 20-Volt Max drill project kit with a 1.5Ah battery and charger. Listings, exact contents and availability can change. See Walmart’s Hyper Tough power tools catalog and the Walmart drill project kit listing. |
The catalog figures are brand-published counts with potentially different inclusion criteria, so they are directional rather than a strict apples-to-apples measure. Ryobi’s stated count is the largest of the comparable published counts found; that does not establish that every tool a buyer needs is available in ONE+, or that the tools outperform competing models.

Battery compatibility: choose a system, not just a drill
Ryobi ONE+ is branded 18V, while Craftsman V20 and Hyper Tough tools in the cited listings use 20V labels. Voltage naming by itself does not prove that one tool is more powerful or performs better. Compare the exact tool and battery, including motor type, capacity and intended workload.
Plan on batteries being platform-specific: a battery generally works only with compatible tools in its own system. Ryobi describes ONE+ battery compatibility across its ONE+ products, and Craftsman says its V20 battery works with its V20 cordless power tool and outdoor tool lineup. Do not assume a battery fits across brands—or even across every product category—without checking the exact model and compatibility information.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces
- Complete a wide range of applications with a high-performance motor that delivers up to 300 UWO, and an impact driver delivering up to 1,400 in-lbs of torque
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
If you already own compatible batteries and a charger, that platform may make a bare tool a more economical addition. But count the tools you actually expect to use: a large catalog is valuable only if it includes the equipment your projects require.
What to check in a drill kit
Kit contents affect both usefulness and total cost. Compare these details on the exact model listing or product packaging:

- Tool type and model number: Confirm whether it is a drill/driver, hammer drill or another tool, and note the model so warranty and parts information can be checked accurately.
- Motor: Verify whether the specific model is brushless or brushed. A brushless listing does not mean every tool in that brand’s lineup is brushless.
- Battery capacity and quantity: Note the amp-hour rating and how many batteries are included. The Craftsman example lists one 2.0Ah battery; the cited Hyper Tough kit lists one 1.5Ah battery.
- Charger and accessories: Check whether a charger, case, bits or other accessories are included. A kit and a bare tool are not comparable purchases.
- Price and stock: Check current listings on the day you buy. Retail prices and availability can change, and the cited Walmart listings do not establish a stable price comparison across brands.
Warranty and getting a tool serviced
Ryobi
Ryobi’s warranty terms vary by product category, so check the current warranty for the exact model rather than assuming one term applies to every power tool. Its support pages provide product-specific warranty, service, replacement-parts and model-support routes. Ryobi also describes Rapid Repair and authorized service centers for eligible products; eligibility depends on the product. Start at Ryobi warranty information and Ryobi service information.
Craftsman
Craftsman states that specified V20 cordless hand-held power tools sold after September 2018—including tools with model numbers beginning “CMC”—have a three-year limited warranty, subject to the terms on its warranty page. The term is not a blanket warranty for every Craftsman product, and purchases from unauthorized sellers can affect coverage. Confirm the exact model and seller before purchase; see Craftsman warranty information.

Choose Ryobi if platform breadth is your priority
Ryobi is the clearest fit if you want access to a wide stated range of compatible tools and outdoor equipment on one 18V platform. Its more-than-300-product figure is Ryobi’s published count; verify that the particular tools you need are available and compatible.

Consider Craftsman if its V20 tools and warranty terms fit
Craftsman’s V20 lineup has a published count of over 100 products, and its warranty page provides a specific three-year limited warranty for qualifying hand-held cordless tools under stated conditions. Verify that the model qualifies and that the seller is acceptable under the warranty terms.
Consider Hyper Tough when the specific Walmart listing meets the need
Hyper Tough is a practical candidate to evaluate when a listed 20V kit has the tool and included battery and charger you need. The evidence available here does not support a comparable total catalog count or a complete brand-wide warranty comparison, so make the decision from the exact listing and its documented terms.

A practical buying decision
- Define the task. Decide whether you need a drill/driver, hammer drill or another tool; match the tool class across brands.
- Check your current batteries. Identify the platform and confirm compatibility with the exact tool. Include the cost of a battery and charger if you do not already have them.
- Compare exact kits. Record model number, motor type, battery capacity and count, charger, case and accessories.
- Verify coverage and service. Read the model-specific warranty and seller conditions; check how eligible repairs are handled.
- Compare today’s price and availability. Evaluate the complete kit rather than comparing a bare tool with a starter kit.
For most homeowners, the best value is the compatible platform that has the needed tool, acceptable kit contents and clear support terms at a current price that works. None of the published evidence justifies calling one of these three brands the universal performance winner.
