Rotary Park, at 275 Scenic Drive in Wanneroo, reopened on 29 September 2026 after the City of Wanneroo completed Stage 2 of its playspace renewal. The current City project page lists a budget of $2.951 million. A PerthNow report published in June 2025 had described the planned upgrade as costing just over $2 million, reflecting an earlier reporting point rather than a final cost statement.
What the Rotary Park upgrade includes
The renewal changed both the play areas and the park infrastructure around them. The City of Wanneroo lists play zones for toddlers, climbing nets, sand play, imaginative play, nature play and swings. The existing carousel was retained.
- New shade sails and pole-style lighting
- Replacement irrigation and surface-water drainage work
- Landscaping and hardscaping, plus bin enclosures with smart-level indicators
- Local-fauna artwork, an entry sign and an inclusive communication board
- Accessible seats, shelters and picnic settings, along with fencing and electric barbecues
- An accessible drinking fountain with tippable dog bowls
PerthNow’s June 2025 account also described a children’s cycling path with animal-themed markings and a new northern entry beside the parking area. It reported that mature trees would be retained; later, the City said irrigation design changes were made to protect them.
Why the project was reported as a $2 million upgrade
PerthNow’s 11 June 2025 headline used the $2 million framing and its report described the budget at that time as just over $2 million. The current City project page lists the budget as $2.951 million. These figures come from different reporting points; the reviewed sources do not provide a final audited outturn cost.

The June 2025 report, citing a City officers’ report, said ground levels were planned to rise by approximately 200 to 300 mm to address flood levels and drainage while preserving mature trees. That figure describes the planned ground-level adjustment, not a finished measurement of the entire park.
Construction delays and reopening
PerthNow reported that Stage 2 was expected to begin in February 2026 and finish by September. The City later said rainfall and elevated groundwater affected trenching for new lighting and irrigation. Further site conditions led to irrigation-system design changes intended to protect mature trees. A City notice subsequently anticipated reopening on 30 September 2026; the current project page records the reopening date as 29 September 2026.

How the design was developed
PerthNow reported that the final concept followed community consultation in late 2021, early 2022 and late 2022. The City said community feedback guided the concept design, with the aim of making the park more accessible, enjoyable and family-friendly. Mayor Linda Aitken said the improvements would make it easier for the community to meet, play and enjoy the outdoors.
The fort replacement was completed as Stage 1 in July 2024, according to the City. It is separate from the Stage 2 renewal that reopened in September 2026.
