The public listing does not show enough detail to confirm a particular planer’s fit, the materials, or the construction steps.
What the WOOD Magazine plan is
The named plan is listed as a mobile shop stand that holds its ground during use and can be lifted like a wheelbarrow when it is time to move it. WOOD Magazine lists dimensions of 29-1/2 inches wide, 42-1/2 inches long, and 27-1/2 inches high. Its description says the stand can be sized for any benchtop tool. The public listing does not provide the plan drawings, cut list, bill of materials, caster specifications, load rating, or tool-by-tool fit information. Treat the listed dimensions as the plan’s overall size, not as proof that your planer will fit without adjustment.
Check fit and shop use before building
Compare the stand’s listed footprint and height with your planer and the space where you expect to work. Also consider how the cart will stay put during planing, where it will park when not in use, and whether long boards need support beyond the planer. The listing says the stand holds its ground, but it does not explain the stabilizing or parking arrangement.

- Planer fit: Confirm your tool’s base dimensions and mounting needs against the actual plan before cutting material.
- Stability: Think through how the cart will resist movement while you feed stock through the planer.
- Long stock: Decide whether your shop layout or separate supports will carry the ends of long boards.
- Storage and movement: Check that the cart’s footprint works in its working and parked positions.
A separate cart build offers practical context
Rob Brown’s Canadian Woodworking article describes a different cart he built for a 12-inch benchtop planer. His design measured just under 16 inches deep, about 24 inches wide, and 32 inches high—or 34-1/2 inches with casters. Those dimensions and construction details belong to Brown’s project, not the WOOD Magazine plan. Read Brown’s account.
Brown positioned his cart against a table saw while planing so it would not roll away as he pushed a board through. He also described support for the ends of long boards. These are useful design considerations, not confirmed features of the WOOD plan.

For his own build, Brown used saved melamine particle-core pieces, a back panel, glue, clamps, four casters, and a shelf made from 5/8-inch plywood attached with cleats and screws. He said clamps held the back in both directions while glue dried and used a small roundover bit to ease sharp melamine edges. These materials and techniques are specific to his separate project; the public WOOD listing does not state what its plan requires.
