Herman Miller places the design in the 1940s and says it is reintroducing Paldao for the first time in more than 80 years. The U.S. product listing specifies 1941 as the coffee table’s debut year. These are the company’s own historical descriptions; they are not independently verified here.

Herman Miller’s U.S. store listing gives the coffee table dimensions as 14¾ inches high by 44 inches wide by 44 inches deep. It describes a wood-veneer top over an MDF core, with solid wood legs. A Herman Miller price book lists the coffee table at 15 inches high, so check the current regional product listing for the exact specification of the configuration you are considering.

Which finishes are listed?
Herman Miller’s price book lists ebony, walnut burl, and white oak burl finishes. The book cautions that natural burl grain, texture, and color vary, meaning no two burl tabletops are identical. MillerKnoll’s July 29, 2024 announcement also describes burl walnut and oak, as well as flat-cut ebonized ash. These sources do not establish that every finish is currently orderable in every location; confirm the options shown by your retailer.
Is the Rohde Paldao table still available?
MillerKnoll’s July 29, 2024 announcement said the table could be purchased through Herman Miller stores and its online store, and through Herman Miller and MillerKnoll dealers for contract customers. That announcement establishes the channels named at that time, not present stock or availability in a particular region. Check the current Herman Miller listing or contact a local dealer for live configuration and order information.

Who designed it?
Gilbert Rohde designed the Paldao tables. Herman Miller identifies Rohde as its first design director. The company’s product sheet recounts his meeting with founder D.J. De Pree and quotes Rohde: “The most interesting thing in the home is the people who live there and I’m designing for them.”

- Start with the format and footprint. The collection includes coffee and side table formats; compare the dimensions of the specific model with the space and furniture around it.
- Confirm the height in the regional listing. The U.S. store listing gives the coffee table as 14¾ inches high, while the price book gives 15 inches.
- Check the finish name and veneer cut. Burl walnut and oak have naturally variable grain and color; ebonized ash is described as flat-cut in MillerKnoll’s announcement.
