Verdict: The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra can automate most routine vacuuming and mopping work. Its dock empties the dustbin, washes and dries the mop, refills the robot, collects dirty water, and runs a dock-cleaning cycle. But it is not genuinely self-sufficient: you still maintain tanks, filters, brushes, sensors, trays, and consumables. It is a strong buy for busy mixed-floor or pet households when heavily discounted; at a price close to newer flagships, skip it for the S8 Max Ultra or S8 MaxV Ultra.
What the “Ultra” dock actually automates
The S8 Pro Ultra’s advantage is not simply stronger suction. It is the amount of routine floor-care work moved from the owner to the multifunction dock. According to Roborock’s product information, the dock:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
| Function | What happens | What you still do |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-emptying | Transfers debris from the robot’s dustbin into a larger disposable dock bag. | Replace the bag when full or when prompted. |
| Mop washing | Washes the VibraRise mop after cleaning. | Empty the dirty-water tank and inspect the washing area. |
| Mop drying | Automatically dries the mop after washing; drying can be controlled in the app. | Clean residue and replace the mop when needed. |
| Water refilling | Refills the robot’s internal water supply from the clean-water tank. | Fill the dock’s clean-water tank. |
| Dirty-water collection | Moves used mop water into the dock’s dirty-water tank. | Empty and rinse that tank regularly. |
| Dock cleaning | Runs automated cleaning of the mop-washing area. | Manually inspect and clean the tray, drainage areas, and other residue-prone parts. |
The robot can also lift its mop and brush rolls in relevant cleaning modes. That reduces the need to remove the mop before vacuuming carpets, although it does not guarantee perfect behavior on every rug or transition.
Vacuuming performance
For daily maintenance, the S8 Pro Ultra is a capable vacuum. Roborock advertises 6,000 Pa suction and uses its DuoRoller Riser twin-brush system. The suction figure identifies the product but should not be treated as a direct measure of real-world cleaning power.

Independent testing by RTINGS found good performance on hard floors and particularly effective pet-hair pickup from carpet. That makes the robot well suited to homes where the main problem is recurring dust, crumbs, tracked-in grit, and animal hair.
- Hard floors: Good routine pickup for dust and everyday debris.
- Carpet: Satisfactory overall, but fine material embedded deep in carpet fibers is more difficult.
- Pet hair: The twin rollers are a notable strength.
- Edges and corners: Fine debris can remain where the round robot cannot reach cleanly.
- Deep cleaning: It should supplement, not completely replace, an upright or canister vacuum for periodic intensive cleaning.
In practical terms, frequent automated passes can leave floors looking cleaner than an excellent vacuum used only occasionally. That is the real benefit—not proof that the S8 Pro Ultra outcleans every conventional vacuum in one pass.
Mopping: excellent maintenance, limited stain removal
The S8 Pro Ultra uses VibraRise 2.0, with two vibrating mop areas rather than the single larger vibrating module used by the regular S8 and S8+. Roborock describes the change as improving mopping efficiency; the system is best understood as an automated maintenance mop.
It is useful for dust, footprints, light food residue, and fresh spills when the robot is sent out quickly. Dried, greasy, or heavily soiled marks may require repeated passes—or a person with a cloth and suitable cleaner. A robot mop is not a powered scrubber.

- 𝗔𝗹𝗹-𝗶𝗻-𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀-𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 - The upgraded dock automatically empties dust into a sealed 2.7L bag that lasts 7–9 weeks, while 167℉ high-temperature self-cleaning helps refresh the mops after each use and 113℉ warm air drying keeps them ready for the next clean, making everyday floor care effortless for busy and pet-friendly homes
- 𝟭𝟴,𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗣𝗮 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - Engineered for strong everyday cleaning performance, the robot delivers powerful suction to effortlessly lift dust, crumbs, cat litter, stubborn debris, and pet hair from hard floors, carpets, and corners, helping keep every room fresh and spotless with less effort

- 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 - From kitchen splashes and cereal crumbs to pet paw prints and everyday footprints, the advanced dual mop system tackles daily messes with ease while adjusting water flow for cleaner, fresher floors throughout your home
- 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝟯.𝟴 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 - Powered by smart obstacle detection, the robot precisely avoids shoes, toys, and furniture legs while gliding smoothly under beds and sofas to clean hidden dust in low-clearance spaces for more complete coverage
Mop lifting helps protect carpets and reduces wet transfer between surfaces, but it is not perfect. Watch for narrow untreated strips beside rugs, dampness at transitions, thresholds the robot cannot cross, and carpet types where the mop does not lift high enough. If your home has valuable rugs or difficult flooring changes, configure no-mop zones and test the behavior before scheduling unattended runs.
One important distinction from newer models is that the S8 Pro Ultra washes its mop with room-temperature water. It does not have the 60°C hot-water washing available on the S8 Max Ultra and S8 MaxV Ultra. That may matter in kitchens or homes with frequent greasy or wet messes.
What you still clean by hand
“Self-cleaning” describes automated cycles, not a dock that remains hygienic without attention. Ownership still includes:

- Wiping sensors and charging contacts.
- Inspecting the mop-washing tray and drainage paths.

Roborock’s support guidance confirms that drying starts automatically after mop washing or cleaning, can be started or stopped in the app, and can be disabled. The same support material makes clear that tanks, bags, filters, and cleaning components remain owner responsibilities.

A practical maintenance rhythm
| When | Check |
|---|---|
| After use or when necessary | Look for tangled hair, cords, sticky debris, or pet accidents. |
| When prompted or full | Empty the dirty-water tank and replace the dust bag. |
| Regularly | Rinse the dock’s washing components and inspect drainage areas. |
| When cleaning declines | Check for clogged suction paths, wet or dirty filters, tangled rollers, blocked water paths, or a poorly seated mop. |
| After moving the dock or seasonally | Recheck maps, boundaries, no-go zones, and dock alignment. |
Use only the cleaning solution approved for your regional model. The applicable manual warns against arbitrary detergents.
Dock placement and first setup
The dock is a substantial appliance, not a small charging base. Roborock recommends placing it on a hard, level surface against a wall with at least 0.7 m (2.3 ft) of space in front and 0.5 m (1.6 ft) above. Those clearances can rule out narrow hallways, crowded kitchens, furniture alcoves, and some utility rooms. Because it handles water, choose a surface that can tolerate accidental moisture rather than placing it directly beside vulnerable wood, rugs, or cabinetry.
- Place the dock on a hard, level surface against a wall.
- Leave the recommended front and overhead clearance.
- Install the side brush, mop assembly, dust bag, and water tanks according to the regional manual.
- Charge the robot on the dock before its first full run.
- Install the Roborock app and connect the robot to the home network. Confirm the exact regional manual for Wi-Fi requirements; S8-family information specifies 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz.
- Create the first map with cords, clothing, toys, and other loose objects removed.
- Identify carpets and configure mop lifting, no-go, or no-mop zones.
- Run a vacuum-only test and confirm that the robot returns to the dock from each room.
- Set schedules only after mapping and obstacle behavior are reliable.
The official manual should take priority over generic robot-vacuum setup advice.

LiDAR mapping is intended to produce systematic room maps, while Reactive 3D Obstacle Avoidance can reduce collisions and improve navigation. It is risk reduction, not a guarantee. Cords, socks, toys, clothing, clutter, and fresh pet waste can still stop or contaminate the robot. No robot should be trusted around pet accidents without controlled testing.

- 𝟴𝟬𝟬𝟬𝗣𝗮 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Engineered to deliver unmatched cleaning performance, the roborock QV 35A robot vacuum with 8000Pa powerful suction effortlessly captures embedded dirt, stubborn debris, and pet hair from deep within carpets, rugs, and hard-to-reach corners, leaving every surface spotless.
- 𝗔𝗹𝗹-𝗶𝗻-𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Designed for ultimate convenience, the advanced docking station automatically empties dust into a sealed 2.7L bag that lasts 7–9 weeks, refills the water with a 4L tank for 3552 sqft coverage, thoroughly washes mopping pads and dries them, ensuring the robot vacuum and mop always ready for the next cleaning. To maintain optimal operation, the dirty water tank should be cleaned regularly.
- 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲-𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: The upgraded asymmetrical side brush is SGS-certified for a 0% hair tangling rate, while the full-rubber spiral main brush effectively prevents hair and debris from wrapping around it, perfect for homes with pets or hair. - 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Equipped with the Reactive Tech system, the QV 35A robot vacuum detects and avoids obstacles like furniture, cords, and shoes with precision. It also intelligently identifies no-go zones, such as stairs or tight spaces, to prevent getting stuck and ensure uninterrupted cleaning.
- 𝗗𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝟭𝟬𝗺𝗺 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝘁: Elevate the floor care and scrub away tough stains with two 200RPM high-speed rotating mopping pads. The 30 adjustable water levels help the robot vacuum cleaner adapt to all floor types, from delicate hardwoods to tiles. The 10mm lift feature allows it to seamlessly transition to low-pile carpets, ensuring no wet messes and complete cleaning versatility.
Fast cleaning is another trade-off: Roborock says its fast route may skip room boundaries and certain spots. Use the normal cleaning behavior when coverage matters, especially around edges and in homes with pets.
Scheduling, mapping, drying controls, and detailed cleaning settings depend substantially on the Roborock app. The physical controls may be enough for basic operation, but the regional manual should be consulted before assuming what remains available if Wi-Fi, the app, or cloud services are unavailable.

S8 Pro Ultra vs. newer S8 Max models
The S8 Pro Ultra is an older flagship, so its price—not its launch-era status—should drive the buying decision. Roborock’s official comparison lists several additions on the S8 Max Ultra and S8 MaxV Ultra:

Choose the S8 Max Ultra if hot-water washing, kitchen cleaning, edge coverage, or detergent handling is worth paying for. Choose the S8 MaxV Ultra if remote viewing or the integrated voice assistant matters. Choose the S8 Pro Ultra when those additions are unimportant and the older model is substantially cheaper.

A regular Roborock S8 or S8+ can also be the better value if you want strong S8-family vacuuming and mopping but are willing to empty bins and maintain the mop yourself. Do not treat an observed historical price for the regular S8 as a current price for the Pro Ultra; compare the live U.S. price, condition, warranty, dock inclusion, and return policy at purchase.
Who should buy the S8 Pro Ultra?
Buy it when
- Your home has mostly hard floors or a manageable mix of hard floors and low-pile carpet.
- Pet hair, crumbs, and daily dust are recurring problems.
- You value automatic emptying, mop washing, drying, and water refilling.
- You have permanent dock space and can provide the recommended clearance.
- You accept routine tank, tray, filter, brush, and consumable maintenance.
- It is meaningfully cheaper than the S8 Max Ultra and S8 MaxV Ultra.
Buy only at a discount when
- You want premium automation but do not need hot-water washing, detergent dispensing, edge hardware, or remote viewing.
- Your home has moderate rather than severe greasy or wet messes.
- A newer S8 Max model is available at nearly the same price.
Skip it when
- You have thick, high-pile, shag, or difficult-transition carpeting.
- You expect a robot to eliminate manual deep cleaning.
- Your space cannot accommodate the dock and its clearance envelope.
- Your floors commonly contain cords, toys, clothing, or pet-related hazards.
- You want the newest software and hardware features, hot-water washing, automatic detergent, remote viewing, or an integrated voice assistant.
- You do not want to clean a water-based dock or buy replacement bags, filters, mop cloths, brushes, and approved solution.
Reliability and ownership risk
Owner reports describe leaks, docking problems, repairs, and support frustrations. These anecdotal reports are worth considering when evaluating warranty coverage and serviceability, but they do not establish a measured failure rate. Buy from a seller that clearly identifies the regional model, new versus refurbished condition, warranty, included dock, consumable availability, and return policy.
Water handling is the central ownership risk: the dock automates unpleasant work, but it also adds tanks, pumps, drainage, and wet surfaces that need inspection. That is why the S8 Pro Ultra belongs on a moisture-tolerant surface and why “dock self-cleaning” should never be read as “no dock maintenance.”
Final recommendation
The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is genuinely useful automation. For a pet-heavy or busy household, it can replace much of the repetitive vacuuming and mopping that would otherwise happen every day. Its hard-floor cleaning, pet-hair pickup, mop washing, drying, and auto-emptying remain compelling.
It is not a zero-maintenance cleaning appliance, and its room-temperature mop washing, less advanced edge coverage, and older software make it difficult to justify at near-current-flagship pricing. Buy the S8 Pro Ultra at a substantial discount if your priority is mature, high-convenience floor maintenance. Pay for an S8 Max model if you need newer mopping and dock features. Skip both if you want a robot to handle clutter, deep carpet cleaning, dried stains, or all ownership tasks without supervision.
