Yes—you can view a compatible Blink camera on an Echo Show 8 using the official Blink SmartHome Alexa skill. The devices do not pair directly over Bluetooth; you link your Blink and Amazon accounts, let Alexa discover the camera, and then use a voice command such as “Alexa, show me Front Door.”

You do not need a Blink subscription for ordinary live-view streaming. Subscriptions primarily affect recording, cloud storage, extended live view, and other advanced features.

What you need before connecting Blink to Echo Show 8

  • A compatible Blink camera that is already working in the Blink app.
  • An Echo Show 8 registered to the intended Amazon account and connected to the internet.
  • The current Blink and Alexa apps, with available device and firmware updates installed.
  • Your Blink and Amazon account credentials.
  • A short, unique camera name, such as Front Door, Driveway, or Nursery.
  • Amazon Kids mode disabled on the Alexa-enabled device during setup, if it prevents the connection.

Compatibility varies by camera model, country, app version, and firmware. Blink identifies first-generation Blink Indoor cameras as incompatible with Alexa devices, so do not assume every historical Blink model supports the same features. See Blink’s Alexa FAQ for the current model-specific limitations.

The camera and Echo Show must both be online, but this is not normally a direct camera-to-display pairing. The integration depends primarily on the linked accounts, Alexa skill, and cloud-based device discovery.

Blink Outdoor 4 – Wireless smart security camera, two-year battery life, 1080p HD day and infrared night live view, two-way talk. Sync Module Core included – 5 camera system
  • Outdoor 4 is our most affordable wireless smart security camera yet, offering up to two-year battery life for around-the-clock peace of mind. Local storage not included with Sync Module Core.
  • See and speak from the Blink app — Experience 1080p HD live view, infrared night vision, and crisp two-way audio.
  • Two-year battery life — Set up in minutes and get up to two years of power with the included AA Energizer lithium batteries and a Blink Sync Module Core.
  • Enhanced motion detection — Be alerted to motion faster from your smartphone with dual-zone, enhanced motion detection.
  • Person detection — Get alerts when a person is detected with embedded computer vision (CV) as part of an optional Blink Subscription Plan (sold separately).

Step 1: Set up and test the Blink camera

  1. Open the Blink app and add the camera to a Blink system.
  2. Complete the camera’s Wi-Fi and power setup.
  3. Confirm that the camera appears normally in the app.
  4. Open the camera’s live view and verify that video loads.

This test should come first. If live view fails in the Blink app, the problem is likely related to the camera, batteries or power, Wi-Fi, Sync Module, or Blink account—not the Echo Show.

Step 2: Set up the Echo Show 8

  1. Register the Echo Show 8 in the Alexa app.
  2. Connect it to Wi-Fi and complete the on-screen setup.
  3. Install any available Echo Show update.
  4. Test Alexa with a basic request, such as asking for the weather.

Use the Amazon account you intend to connect to Blink. Having different Amazon accounts, Blink accounts, or Alexa households is a common reason for failed discovery.

Step 3: Link Blink and Alexa

Option A: Link from the Blink app

  1. Open the Blink app.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Open Account and Privacy.
  4. Select Link to Alexa, or the similarly named Alexa-linking option.
  5. Sign in to Amazon when prompted and authorize the connection.

Menu labels can differ slightly by platform, language, and app rollout. Blink documents the account-linking location in its current app settings guidance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Option B: Enable the skill from Alexa

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Tap More, then Skills & Games.
  3. Search for Blink SmartHome.
  4. Select the official skill published by Blink for Home by Immedia.
  5. Tap Enable to Use.
  6. Sign in with the Blink account and approve account linking.

You can also open the official Blink SmartHome Alexa skill listing.

Step 4: Discover the camera in Alexa

After linking the accounts, say:

“Alexa, discover my devices.”

Alternatively, use the device-discovery control in the Alexa app’s smart-home device section. Wait for discovery to finish, then open Alexa’s device list and confirm that the Blink camera appears.

The normal Alexa sequence is enable the skill, link the device account, and run discovery. If you renamed the camera, use the exact name shown in Alexa rather than relying only on the name displayed in the Blink app.

Step 5: View Blink on the Echo Show 8

Use the camera’s Alexa device name:

“Alexa, show me Front Door.”

Replace Front Door with your camera’s actual name. Other useful commands include:

  • “Alexa, show Driveway.”
  • “Alexa, stop.”
  • “Alexa, hide Front Door.”
  • “Alexa, go home.”

According to Blink’s Alexa live-view guidance, an Alexa live-view session on a compatible screened device lasts up to approximately five minutes. That is a session limit, not a promise that the video is being recorded.

Useful Alexa features and commands

Multiple-camera view

If you have several compatible Blink cameras, try:

“Alexa, show my cameras.”

Echo Show 8, Echo Show 10, and Echo Show 15 devices can display a split-screen view with multiple Blink cameras in the United States, subject to current model, grouping, account, and regional support. Camera names must be discoverable and distinct.

Motion announcements

Alexa can announce motion detected by compatible Blink cameras. In the Alexa app, open the relevant camera or smart-home device settings and enable motion announcements if the option is available.

A motion announcement is only a notification. It does not prove that a video clip was saved; recording depends on the camera, storage configuration, and Blink plan.

Blink Video Doorbell features

The Blink Video Doorbell has additional Alexa features, including doorbell-press announcements and automatic live view on a compatible screened Alexa device. Blink also identifies the Video Doorbell as the Blink device compatible with Alexa two-way audio. Do not generalize that capability to every Blink camera.

There is a storage trade-off to understand: with local storage in use, automatic doorbell live view can prevent doorbell-press clips from being saved locally when live-view recording requires a subscription. Disabling automatic live view can preserve local clip saving, but Blink says it also disables doorbell announcements on Echo devices. Details are in Blink’s Alexa FAQ.

Arming and disarming

The Blink Alexa skill supports commands such as:

  • “Alexa, arm [system name].”
  • “Alexa, disarm [system name].”
  • “Alexa, is [system name] armed?”

Voice disarming requires a four-digit Alexa Voice Code. Keep that code private and consider whether voice disarming fits your household’s security needs.

Do you need a Blink subscription?

No subscription is required simply to view a compatible Blink camera’s live feed on an Echo Show 8. However, live viewing, recording, and storage are separate functions.

Blink Outdoor 4 – Wireless smart security camera, two-year battery life, two-way talk. Required Sync Module not included – Add-on camera
  • Outdoor 4 is our fourth-generation wireless smart security camera with up to two-year battery life for around-the-clock peace of mind.
  • See and speak from the Blink app — Experience 1080p HD live view, infrared night vision, and crisp two-way audio.

Compatible systems may also use local storage through a Sync Module 2 with USB storage or Sync Module XR with microSD, depending on the camera and setup. Local storage is not the same as cloud storage and can behave differently during doorbell automatic live view.

Troubleshooting Blink and Echo Show 8

Alexa cannot find the camera

  1. Confirm live view works in the Blink app.
  2. Check that the correct Blink account was linked.
  3. Check that the intended Amazon account is active in Alexa.
  4. Disable and re-enable the Blink SmartHome skill if the link appears stale.
  5. Run device discovery again.
  6. Rename cameras that have duplicate, confusing, or overly complex names.
  7. Update the Blink app, Alexa app, and Echo Show software.
  8. Restart the Echo Show and, if needed, the camera or Sync Module.
  9. Verify that the camera model and market are supported.

The camera appears, but live view will not load

Test the camera in the Blink app first:

  • Blink app also fails: troubleshoot camera power, batteries, Wi-Fi, Sync Module connectivity, and Blink account status.
  • Blink app works but Echo Show fails: focus on skill linking, Alexa discovery, Echo Show connectivity, software, and camera naming.
  • Unsupported-device message: verify that you are requesting live view on a compatible screened Alexa device.

A subscription is not the first fix for an offline camera or broken account link.

Alexa opens the wrong camera

Rename cameras with short, unique names. Avoid punctuation and near-duplicates such as Front Door and Frontdoor. Run discovery again, check the name in Alexa’s device list, and repeat the command using that exact name.

Live video works but audio does not

Check the Echo Show’s volume and mute state, the camera’s microphone and audio permissions, and model-specific support. Also determine whether you expect one-way live audio or two-way conversation. Audio working in the Blink app does not guarantee that Alexa exposes the same feature.

The doorbell announces a press but shows no video

Confirm that the accounts are linked, Doorbell Press Notifications are enabled, the Echo Show is supported, the doorbell is online, and automatic live view has not been disabled. Review the local-storage and subscription trade-off before changing the setting.

Privacy and security considerations

  • Use a strong, unique Blink password and keep multi-factor authentication enabled.
  • Review which people and Alexa profiles can access the Blink account.
  • Protect the four-digit Alexa Voice Code if voice disarming is enabled.
  • Place cameras so they do not intrude on areas where household members or visitors reasonably expect privacy.
  • Remember that an Echo Show displays a live feed in a shared room; use the Echo’s camera and microphone controls when appropriate.

Blink says multi-factor authentication helps ensure that only authorized users access an account. See its account and security FAQ for current controls.

When this setup is—and is not—a good fit

Blink and Echo Show 8 work well when you already own both products and want hands-free viewing in a kitchen, office, entryway, or living room. The setup is less suitable for continuous 24/7 monitoring, guaranteed recording of every live-view session, operation during an internet outage, or advanced local-security and professional-monitoring requirements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For individual camera management, the Blink app on a phone or tablet may be more useful. A Fire TV or compatible Fire Tablet can provide another Alexa viewing endpoint. A dedicated security monitor or NVR is better for continuous monitoring and recording, while another camera ecosystem may be preferable if universal two-way talk, local processing, or broad interoperability is essential.

Final setup checklist

  • Camera works in the Blink app.
  • Echo Show 8 is online and registered to the correct Amazon account.
  • Blink SmartHome is enabled.
  • Blink and Amazon accounts are linked.
  • Alexa has discovered the camera.
  • Each camera has a short, unique name.
  • “Alexa, show me [camera name]” works.
  • Motion or doorbell notifications are enabled only if wanted.
  • Storage and subscription expectations are understood.
