Roborock has entered the robotic lawn-mower market with the RockMow and RockNeo families, using RTK satellite positioning, VSLAM cameras, and—on the premium model—3D LiDAR. The products were first unveiled on September 4, 2025, followed by a U.S. market-entry announcement at CES 2026. Roborock’s U.S. site now lists the RockNeo Q1, RockMow X1, and RockMow X1 LiDAR.
The mowers are designed to avoid traditional perimeter wire, but “wire-free” does not mean setup-free. Lawn mapping, exclusion zones, station placement, software availability, and regional pricing still matter.

How RTK and VSLAM work together
RTK, or Real-Time Kinematic positioning, uses satellite signals and correction data to improve location accuracy compared with ordinary GPS. A separate reference station is commonly part of the setup.
VSLAM, or Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping, uses cameras to recognize features in the environment, estimate the mower’s position, and maintain a map.
Roborock groups these technologies within its Sentisphere environmental-perception system and describes the combination as providing centimeter-level precision. That is a manufacturer claim—not proof of centimeter-perfect cutting or navigation on every property.
In practical terms, RTK can provide broad positioning context while visual navigation may help when trees, buildings, or other obstructions weaken satellite visibility. Performance can still depend on:
- Placement and sky visibility for the RTK reference station.
- Dense tree cover, walls, and metal structures.
- Visually repetitive grass with few landmarks.
- Narrow passages and disconnected lawn zones.
- Dirty, wet, or obstructed camera lenses.
The RockMow X1 LiDAR adds a different sensing layer: Roborock describes a 360-degree 3D LiDAR system combined with VSLAM, capturing up to 200,000 points per second with a stated detection range of 230 feet.

RockNeo Q1
The RockNeo Q1 is the more accessible model in the current U.S. lineup. Roborock lists:
- Starting price from $1,299.
- Full-band RTK and VSLAM navigation.
- AI-powered mapping and stereo-vision obstacle avoidance.
- Claimed edge precision of 1.2 inches.

- An RTK reference station included in the box.
The 1.2-inch specification describes the mower’s structural distance from a boundary. Roborock says actual results depend on the edge and software logic, so it should not be read as a guarantee that every border will be cut to exactly 1.2 inches. The optional PreciEdge cutting module is listed separately.

RockMow X1 LiDAR
The RockMow X1 LiDAR is not merely a cosmetic variation of the X1. It uses 360-degree 3D LiDAR with VSLAM to reconstruct and navigate the garden.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Roborock claims up to 0.5 acre per day under its stated test conditions, compared with up to one-quarter acre per day for the Q1. It also lists AWD, active steering, dynamic suspension, a floating deck, six-blade cutting, a 1.6–3.5-inch cutting-height range, 3.1-inch obstacle clearance, and operation on slopes up to 80%.
Roborock positions the LiDAR model for dense, intricate gardens and areas where satellite or RTK conditions may be difficult. That positioning is a company claim, not independent evidence that it will outperform every RTK-only mower in every tree-covered yard. The listed box contents emphasize the charging station and LiDAR system rather than an RTK reference station; confirm the package for the exact regional SKU before purchase.
Does Roborock’s mower need boundary wire?
The U.S. models are marketed for AI-powered, wire-free mapping, so they are intended to operate without traditional perimeter wire. However, the installation still requires planning.
Depending on the lawn, owners may need to:
- Map or teach the mower the lawn boundaries.
- Position the charging station and, where applicable, RTK reference station carefully.
- Define virtual boundaries and exclusion zones.
- Configure separate lawn areas and narrow passages.
- Correct map errors around driveways, ponds, drops, slopes, and temporary obstacles.
“No boundary wire” removes the need to bury a physical cable; it does not remove mapping, configuration, or site-preparation work.
Which model fits which lawn?
| Lawn situation | Model to investigate | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Smaller, straightforward lawn | RockNeo Q1 | Lower listed starting price and simpler positioning |
| Large, steep, or rough lawn | RockMow X1 | AWD, active steering, suspension, and claimed slope capability |
| Dense trees or complex landscaping | RockMow X1 LiDAR | 3D LiDAR combined with VSLAM |
| Very low-cut turf | Verify carefully | The published X1 cutting range starts at 1.6 inches |
| Highly precise borders | Check PreciEdge | The module is listed as a separate accessory |
| Multiple disconnected areas | Verify app behavior | Zone and routing features may depend on software updates |
Important limitations for contractors and homeowners
Published performance is not independent testing
The slope, coverage, obstacle-clearance, detection-range, and edge figures come from Roborock’s published specifications and stated test conditions. The supplied launch material does not establish long-term independent performance across different grass types, climates, satellite conditions, or property layouts.
Rank #3
- For Complex 0.25-Acre Yards: Built for up to 10,890 sq. ft. with dense trees, shade, eaves, narrow passages, multiple zones, uneven ground, and weak-signal areas.
- 360° 3D LiDAR + Vision AI: LiDAR and vision build a 3D map; the 10 TOPS AllSense system plans systematic parallel routes in daylight, low light, nighttime, and weak-signal areas.
- Obstacle + Terrain Response: 360° sensing identifies common static or moving yard obstacles and adjusts the route; rear-wheel drive handles bumps, ruts, 31.5-inch passages, and slopes up to 22° / 42%.
- Wire-Free App Mapping: Drive S4 in the app to map without perimeter wire or base-station calibration; save 5 maps, create up to 100 zones/no-go areas, choose patterns and schedules, and resume after interruption.
- Clean, Quiet Cutting: Six blades, 7-inch width, 1.6–3.2-inch height, floating cut and ride-on-edge mode support clean borders. 60 dB operation, rain-sensor return, app/voice control, and US support simplify care.
These are maintenance mowers, not necessarily replacements for a conventional mower tackling heavily overgrown grass. Before choosing one, confirm how it handles thick or wet grass, rapid growth after rain, uneven lawn-to-pavement transitions, blade replacement, and low-cut ornamental turf.
Edge cutting may still require finishing work
Raised beds, vertical walls, retaining-wall lips, loose gravel, irregular paving, and edges that are not level with the turf can all reduce the usefulness of an advertised edge-distance figure. Expect to check the actual border design rather than assuming trimming will never be needed.
Obstacle avoidance is not a substitute for site safety
Roborock describes avoidance for objects, people, animals, and crossable obstacles, although some behaviors are marked for future OTA updates. Remove toys, hoses, cables, tools, branches, loose stones, and pet waste before mowing. Treat obstacle detection as a safety aid, not permission to leave a hazardous lawn unattended around children or animals.
Roborock also lists wildlife-friendly scheduling that pauses mowing during preset hours to help protect nocturnal animals. Scheduling cannot guarantee detection or protection of every rabbit, frog, hedgehog, or other animal.
Weather resistance still requires maintenance judgment
Roborock lists rain sensing and IPX6 water resistance. IPX6 indicates resistance to powerful water jets; it does not mean the mower should be submerged or pressure-washed indiscriminately. Follow the applicable manual for cleaning, blades, storage, charging equipment, and winterization.
What to verify before buying
- Regional price and stock: Do not convert European pricing into a U.S. price. The Q1’s displayed U.S. starting price is the only concrete U.S. figure established here.
- Station placement: Check whether trees, walls, buildings, or metal structures will obstruct the RTK reference station or charging station.
- Included equipment: Confirm whether the purchased SKU includes an RTK reference station, cables, garage, or other accessories.
- Software status: Separate features available at purchase from those promised through future OTA updates.
- Accessory costs: Check the price and availability of PreciEdge, rough-terrain wheels, replacement blades, endurance blades, and extension cables.
- Connectivity: Verify 4G coverage, tracking requirements, account features, and any cellular-service terms.
- Support: Compare warranty, parts availability, repair arrangements, and winter-storage requirements with established mower brands.
How Roborock compares with established alternatives
Roborock’s relevant competitors include Mammotion LUBA, Segway Navimow, Husqvarna Automower, and Worx Landroid. The right comparison is not simply the number of sensors.
Evaluate boundary-wire requirements, RTK recovery behavior, vision or LiDAR obstacle detection, maximum lawn area, slope limits, minimum cutting height, edge performance, cellular fees, replacement-part costs, local repair support, warranty coverage, and winter storage. Roborock’s advantage on paper is its combination of robot-navigation experience, RTK/VSLAM mapping, LiDAR on the premium model, and app-based management. Its key unresolved question is how reliably that package performs across varied real-world lawns.
