Road work is reducing the number of open lanes on southbound John F. Kennedy Boulevard near the airport Marriott from 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Oct. 16, 2026. Drivers leaving George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) Terminals A and B should allow extra time and follow posted detour signs toward Will Clayton Parkway. Houston Airports has not published a delay estimate, and its alert does not say the road is fully closed.
Where and when is the IAH road work?

The reported work window runs from 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Oct. 16, 2026. The notice says fewer lanes will be open; it does not specify a full closure, a number of lanes, or a numerical travel delay. What should drivers leaving Terminals A and B do?
Follow the posted detour signs toward Will Clayton Parkway and allow extra time. The airport has not stated how many extra minutes to plan for, so conditions and actual travel time may vary. Additional law enforcement will be on site to help traffic flow.
This instruction is specifically for drivers leaving Terminals A and B. The alert does not provide a separate inbound route instruction, so drivers arriving at IAH should check current airport signs and live alerts rather than assume that the outbound detour applies to them.

Which roads provide access to IAH?
The airport lists John F. Kennedy Boulevard as a primary approach from the Sam Houston Tollway or Hardy Toll Road, and Will Clayton Parkway as a primary approach from US 59/I-69. IAH is also accessible from I-45. The airport’s navigation address is 2800 North Terminal Road, Houston, TX 77032. These are general access routes; the active alert specifically identifies fewer lanes on southbound JFK Boulevard near the Marriott and does not promise that Will Clayton Parkway will be faster.
Picking up or waiting for a passenger
For passenger pickup, go to the Arrivals level and follow terminal signs. Curbside parking is not permitted, and drivers should not idle at the curb while waiting. Instead, use one of IAH’s free cell-phone lots, which are open 24 hours. The driver must remain with the vehicle. Houston Airports lists lots on JFK Boulevard and Will Clayton Parkway, plus a Control Tower lot at 4500 Will Clayton Parkway. Confirm the current directions and signs on the IAH parking page.

What Terminal B travelers should know
Separate from the Oct. 12–16 road work, United’s Terminal B ticketing lobby has been closed since Jan. 21, 2025, and Houston Airports expects it to remain closed until late 2026. Gates B3–B31 remain operational. Terminal B passengers check in, drop bags, and clear TSA at Terminal C, then take the Skyway to Terminal B. The Terminal A/B and C/D/E parking garages remain open. Check the airport alert page for current terminal notices as well as roadway updates.

Houston Airports announced a seven-project, $229.9 million IAH infrastructure program on Sept. 2, 2026. The multi-year work includes increasing entry lanes to the Terminal A/B Garage from two to four and improving the North Terminal Road water line; design and construction are expected over three years. The announcement does not identify that program as the cause of the current JFK Boulevard lane restriction. Details are in the Houston Airports infrastructure announcement.
