Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor most homeowners, Ring Floodlight Cam Plus is the better value. Choose the Floodlight Cam Pro when a large driveway, yard or side boundary makes distant detail, advanced motion context or stronger Wi‑Fi worth the extra cost. Before comparing prices, verify the generation: Ring now sells Floodlight Cam Plus, a first-generation 2K Floodlight Cam Pro, a current 4K Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen), and a separate Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen).
This comparison focuses on permanently powered outdoor cameras for driveways, yards, garage approaches and other broad areas. The Pro improves evidence quality and detection features; it does not make the floodlights fundamentally brighter or guarantee crime prevention.
Identify the exact Ring model first
Retailers often shorten product names. Check the complete title, resolution, dimensions and generation on the listing before ordering. Ring’s current lineup is shown at Ring’s outdoor-camera catalog.

Video quality: when Pro detail matters
Floodlight Cam Plus
The Plus’s 1080p image is adequate for seeing activity, checking a live view and receiving general motion alerts. Detail falls away sooner when a person is distant, moving quickly, backlit or partly hidden. Ring lists a 140° horizontal by 80° vertical view on the Plus product page.

- Light up large outdoor areas — 2000 lumen motion-activated floodlights give unwanted visitors nowhere to hide.
First-generation Pro
The original Pro raises resolution to 2K and adds Pro motion tools, but it is not the same camera as today’s 4K Pro. Its feature listing is on Ring’s Floodlight Cam Pro support page.
Pro (2nd Gen)
The current Pro uses 4K capture and up to 10× Enhanced Zoom. Ring specifies a 140° by 85° field of view on its 2nd-generation product page. This is the strongest choice when the camera watches a 60-foot driveway, a broad backyard or a distant gate.
4K does not guarantee a recognizable face or license plate. Mounting height and angle, subject distance and movement, night glare, weather, a dirty lens, upload performance and whether the subject faces the camera can matter more than pixel count. Digital zoom cannot recreate optical detail that was never captured.
Motion detection and Bird’s Eye View
What Plus provides
Plus uses Advanced Motion Detection and customizable motion zones. That is sufficient for a defined approach, porch edge or short side path where straightforward alerts are the goal.

What Pro adds
Pro models add radar-powered 3D Motion Detection and Bird’s Eye View. The overhead view supplies context about where detected movement entered and the path it took. It is most useful when the camera can see the ground clearly and the property’s routes are open.
Walls, dense cover, cramped spaces and blocked ground views reduce that benefit. These tools improve motion context; they do not guarantee person identification or eliminate false alerts. Ring marks some advanced features as subscription-dependent on its support materials.
Lighting, audio and deterrence
Both the Plus and current Pro specifications list two 2,000-lumen, 3,000K floodlights. Pro is therefore not automatically the brighter security light. Beam direction, mounting angle, nearby walls and glare determine how useful that output is.
Plus includes two-way talk with noise cancellation and a remote siren rated by Ring at 105 dB under a 4-inch (10 cm) measurement condition. The first-generation Pro support page lists a 110 dB siren. Do not compare those numbers as a laboratory head-to-head: test distance and method differ, and the current 2nd-generation page should be used for its exact rating. Pro 2nd Gen adds Audio+ and advanced noise cancellation.

Wi‑Fi and reliability at the mounting point
The listed Plus uses single-band 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi and recommends at least 5Mbps upload. First-generation Pro supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz; Pro 2nd Gen uses dual-band Wi‑Fi 6 and recommends at least 15Mbps upload.
- 2.4GHz generally reaches farther through walls but is often more congested.
- 5GHz can be faster and cleaner but usually loses range and wall penetration.
- Wi‑Fi 6 cannot overcome a distant router, masonry or inadequate upstream bandwidth.
- Test signal and upload speed at the planned outdoor mount, not beside the router.
A mesh node or access-point repositioning can improve either camera more than paying for Pro. Conversely, a congested 2.4GHz network is a reasonable reason to choose a dual-band Pro.
Power, installation and physical fit
These are permanently powered floodlight cameras, not battery units. Plus is sold in wired and plug-in configurations; Ring lists a 20-foot cord for the plug-in version. The hardwired model uses 100–240V power and mounts to a weatherproof electrical box. Pro availability varies by generation and region.
- Confirm an existing electrical box, wiring condition and weatherproofing.
- Check whether your mounting surface and junction-box hole pattern fit the new generation.
- Follow local electrical code; mains work may require a licensed electrician.
- Aim for a useful face angle rather than mounting so high that only the top of a head is visible.
- Angle lights to illuminate the approach without shining into the lens or reflecting off a wall.
Listed dimensions are not interchangeable: Plus is approximately 11.7 × 7.03 × 9.67 inches; first-generation Pro approximately 12.82 × 7.77 × 8.5 inches; Pro 2nd Gen approximately 8.78 × 12.87 × 7.8 inches. Ring’s professional-installation flow has shown starting prices around $129 per device, but the actual quote depends on location and job complexity. See Ring’s installation/product flow.

Subscriptions, cloud storage and 24/7 recording
Without Ring Protect, Ring product information describes core live functions such as live view, real-time notifications, two-way communication and the last captured image from active devices. Reviewing missed video, saving recordings and sharing saved clips generally requires a compatible plan. See Ring Protect plans for current regional terms.
Ring’s current Floodlight Cam 2nd Gen page says 24/7 Recording requires a compatible Ring Protect subscription plus the Continuous Recording add-on, listed there at $3 per month per camera for the applicable feature. Prices, plan names and retention periods can change by country and date. Neither camera should be treated as a local-storage system; buyers who require local recording should consider another platform.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Price and total ownership cost
Ring prices change with sales, bundles and configuration. The Plus listing showed about $179.99 and Pro 2nd Gen listings about $249.98 promotional to $279.99 when checked in August 2026; these are not guaranteed quotes. The separate Floodlight Cam 2nd Gen page showed a regular price of $199.99. Verify the exact wired or plug-in configuration and whether a bundle is included on Ring’s offers page before purchase.
Use this calculation rather than comparing hardware alone:

Three-year cost = camera price + installation + subscription fees + recording add-ons.
- At a close 15-foot entry path, ask whether Pro’s premium produces information you can actually use.
- At a 60-foot driveway, the Pro’s resolution and zoom may prevent a second camera.
- If you already pay for Ring Protect, the incremental Pro hardware cost may be easier to justify.
- If you need 24/7 recording, include the recurring add-on for every camera.
Who should buy each model?
Choose Floodlight Cam Plus when
- The monitored area is compact and subjects pass close to the camera.
- 1080p is enough for general awareness and live viewing.
- You want bright lighting, alerts, two-way talk and a siren at the lowest hardware cost.
- Your network is better suited to 2.4GHz and does not need Pro features.
Choose Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) when
- The camera covers a large driveway, backyard, side access or property boundary.
- Distance, zoom and evidence quality matter.
- You can provide reliable outdoor upload bandwidth and benefit from dual-band Wi‑Fi 6.
- 3D Motion Detection, Bird’s Eye View, Audio+ or Advanced Pre-Roll solve a specific problem.
Consider first-generation Pro only when
A discounted 2K unit’s dual-band Wi‑Fi and Pro detection features meet your needs. Do not pay a near-4K price for it without checking the generation.
Look beyond Ring when
You require local storage, no cloud subscription or a different smart-home ecosystem. Google Nest, Arlo, Eufy, Wyze and Ubiquiti Protect all have relevant products, but compare a specific current model’s storage, support and total cost rather than assuming any brand is universally better.
Final verdict
Buy Floodlight Cam Plus for value and ordinary close-range coverage. It delivers the essential floodlight-camera functions and matching 2,000-lumen lighting at lower cost. Buy Floodlight Cam Pro 2nd Gen for large properties or evidence-quality priorities where 4K, zoom, motion context, Audio+ and Wi‑Fi 6 will be used. In either case, installation position and subscription costs can matter more than the product badge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ring Floodlight Cam Pro worth more than Plus?
It is worth the premium when the camera watches distant activity, a large property or a congested network and you will use its 4K/zoom, Pro motion and dual-band features. For close-range monitoring, Plus is usually the better value.
Are Floodlight Cam Plus and Floodlight Cam 2nd Gen the same?
No. Plus is the older 1080p model. Floodlight Cam 2nd Gen is a separate newer 2K product with different features and dimensions.
Can either camera record without a Ring subscription?
Core live functions work without Protect, but Ring generally requires a compatible plan for reviewing missed video, saving and sharing recordings. Continuous recording additionally requires the applicable Protect plan and add-on.
