Ring and Flock Safety canceled the planned partnership on February 12, 2026, saying it never launched and that no Ring customer videos were sent to Flock.
The original plan would have let participating public-safety agencies send voluntary video requests through Ring’s Community Requests feature. It was not designed to give Flock automatic access to every Ring camera or live video feed.

What Ring and Flock originally announced
On October 16, 2025, Ring and Flock Safety announced a planned integration between Ring’s Community Requests feature and Flock’s FlockOS and Flock Nova platforms. The announcement described a system in which eligible public-safety agencies could request footage from Ring users in a defined area.
According to the original announcement, a request would identify the incident location, relevant time period, investigation code and case details. Ring users could then view the request in the Neighbors app and either submit selected footage or ignore it.

- Powerful protection for any property* — 1080p HD security camera for your home or business with motion-activated LED floodlights, 105dB security siren.
- Real-time alerts* — Get motion-activated notification when anyone steps in view of your camera.
- Customizable Motion Zones* — Fine-tune which areas you want to focus on in the Ring app.
- Light up large outdoor areas* — 2000 lumen motion-activated floodlights give unwanted visitors nowhere to hide.
- Sound the siren with a tap* — Activate the 85dB siren from the Ring app to send unwanted visitors running.
Any footage submitted would have been packaged by Flock and delivered to the requesting agency through FlockOS or Flock Nova. That was a request-and-consent workflow—not a continuous connection to Ring cameras.
The integration never launched
On February 12, 2026, Ring said the companies had canceled the planned integration because it would require more time and resources than anticipated. Ring explicitly stated that the integration “never launched” and that no Ring customer videos were sent to Flock. Flock published a matching update.
The timeline is therefore:
- October 16, 2025: Ring and Flock announce the proposed integration.
- January 9, 2026: Coverage describes the planned partnership.
- February 12, 2026: Both companies announce its cancellation before launch.
Articles or social posts that describe the partnership without mentioning the cancellation give an outdated impression of the current service.
Can police still request Ring footage?
Ring’s separate Community Requests feature remains available where supported. Availability depends on Ring’s service, the participating agency, the user’s account and location, and the current app configuration.
When a Community Request is available, Ring describes participation as voluntary. A user can review the request, choose whether to respond and select what footage to share—or ignore the request. The cancellation of the Flock integration did not eliminate Community Requests generally.

- Look in anytime – Watch over your home or business day or night in wide-angle, 1080p HD video with Color Night Vision and see what’s happening with Live View.
- Stop intruders in their tracks – With 2 motion-activated LED spotlights that turn on when they detect motion, and sound the built-in security siren with just a few taps.
- Focus on important areas – Customizable motion zones let you choose exactly what your camera covers – so you only get notified about what matters most.
- Convenient Power – Easily power your device with the Quick Release Battery Pack.
- Speak to visitors on camera – Talk to guests anytime, from anywhere with Two-Way Talk.
This is separate from a legal demand. Ring also describes processes for government requests such as warrants, subpoenas and court orders on its law-enforcement information page. Declining a voluntary request does not guarantee that footage could never be sought through a legally valid process.
Does Flock have direct access to Ring cameras?
There is no evidence in the announced design that Flock received blanket access to Ring cameras. The proposed workflow required:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- An agency to create a request for a defined investigation.
- The request to specify a location and time period.
- A Ring user to decide whether to participate.
- The user to submit selected footage.
The announcement did not describe continuous access to live feeds, automatic downloading of Ring recordings or a searchable database containing every Ring camera. In particular, the canceled plan did not turn every Ring camera into a Flock camera.
What about ICE and other agencies?
The canceled Ring-Flock integration should not be described as giving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, direct access to Ring customer footage. The available evidence does not establish such a pathway.
Confusion arose partly because Flock’s broader public-safety and business surveillance network has attracted scrutiny over data sharing, retention and law-enforcement access. Ring also has its own history of law-enforcement partnerships and privacy criticism. Those facts do not show that access to Flock systems automatically transferred to Ring video.

- Get the whole picture – Watch over your home day or night in 1080p HD video with Live View and Color Night Vision.
- Video previews – Record a few extra seconds before every motion event with Advanced Pre-Roll to get a more complete picture of what happened.
- Privacy at your fingertips – Turn off your camera and mic with the manual Privacy Cover, then reactivate with a simple swivel.
- Get important alerts – Get real-time alerts when the camera detects movement, and choose exactly what your camera covers so you only get notified above movement that matters.
- Versatile mounting options – Find the perfect angle on a table, or mount up high with the flexible swivel mount. Indoor Cam is plug-in, making it easy to move where you need it.
Flock is not exclusively a police-department product, either; it serves public-safety agencies and business customers under different arrangements. Its independent camera network should not be conflated with residential Ring devices.

| System | Typical role | How it related to the proposed integration |
|---|---|---|
| Ring doorbells and home cameras | Residential security and doorbell video tied to a customer account | Users could have voluntarily submitted selected footage |
| Flock cameras | Public-safety or business surveillance systems, including license-plate and other camera deployments | Flock software would have handled the requesting and evidence-management side |
| Ring Community Requests | A user-facing method for requesting neighborhood video | It remains distinct from the canceled Flock integration |
Why the proposal drew privacy criticism
Critics raised concerns about Flock’s expanding surveillance footprint, police access, retention periods and possible secondary uses of footage. Others questioned whether residents might feel pressured to provide video when a request appeared to come from law enforcement.
The proposal also highlighted a difficult boundary between privately owned residential cameras and public-safety investigation platforms. A voluntary submission may show more than the relevant event: it can include audio, children, neighbors, visitors, license plates and unrelated bystanders.
Those concerns are different from claims that Flock could automatically search every Ring camera. The technical design described in the announcement required a user decision, while the broader privacy questions involve what happens after footage is shared, how long an agency retains it and who can access it under applicable policy or law.

- Review current Neighbors and Community Requests settings. App names and controls can vary by version, account and country. Do not rely on old menu instructions.
- Check shared users and account permissions. Remove people who no longer need access.
- Enable two-factor authentication and use a strong, unique account password.
- Understand your storage model. Ring devices may rely on cloud storage and subscription features; recording availability depends on the device and plan.
- Review previously shared footage. Delete material where Ring’s current controls permit it, while recognizing that a recipient agency may retain a copy under its own rules.
Ring’s current U.S. plans page says Ring devices can be used without a subscription, while paid plans provide recording and other features. Prices and features change by country, device and plan; the page listed plans ranging from Ring Solo to Ring Pro when checked on August 18, 2026.

Before sharing a clip with an agency
Check that the request appears through the official Ring or Neighbors interface and that it identifies a specific incident, location and time period. Before submitting, review the entire clip and consider whether it contains unrelated conversations, private property, children or bystanders.
Also look for information about agency retention, access and later use. “Voluntary” describes whether you respond to the Community Request; it does not necessarily limit what the recipient may do with footage after submission.
If you want less cloud dependence
Replacing Ring may reduce dependence on a vendor’s cloud, but no camera system is completely immune from hacking, copying, account misuse or legal process.
- Stay with Ring: Best for easy setup, Alexa integration, a mature app and a turnkey ecosystem. The trade-off is continued reliance on Ring’s account and cloud-storage model.
- Eufy local-security systems: Eufy promotes local processing and storage without a mandatory monthly fee for its local-security model. Storage capacity, cloud options and security features vary by product.
- Reolink or another NVR-based system: Local microSD or recorder storage can provide more control over retention. Installation, backups, network security and remote access become the owner’s responsibility.
- Google Nest and similar cloud systems: These may offer polished apps and smart-home integration, but they do not eliminate vendor-cloud or legal-access considerations.
Local storage is not automatically private. A homeowner, household member or attacker can still copy footage, and authorities may seek video from an NVR, cloud backup or another device through lawful means.

The Ring-Flock integration is not an active feature. It was announced in October 2025 and canceled before launch in February 2026; both companies said no Ring videos were sent to Flock through it.
The lasting issue for Ring owners is broader. Community Requests may still let participating agencies ask users for voluntary help, while legally valid government demands are a separate matter. Whether to keep Ring should therefore depend on your comfort with its cloud model, account policies and voluntary-sharing features—not on the assumption that Flock now has automatic access to your camera.
