Ring canceled its planned Flock Safety integration before it ever launched

Amazon’s Ring does not currently work with Flock Safety. Ring and Flock announced a planned connection on October 16, 2025, but canceled it on February 12, 2026. Both companies say the integration never launched and that no Ring customer videos were sent to Flock through it.

Ring’s separate Community Requests program remains active for eligible U.S. public-safety agencies. Customers can choose whether to share requested footage.

What the proposed Ring-Flock connection was supposed to do

The planned integration was designed to connect Flock Safety’s Nova and FlockOS platforms with Ring’s Community Requests feature. It was intended for verified local public-safety agencies in the United States that used Flock’s investigative systems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The proposed workflow was:

  1. An agency would create a Community Request for a specific location and timeframe.
  2. The request would include a unique investigation code and details about what investigators were seeking.
  3. Flock Nova or FlockOS would transmit the request securely to Ring.
  4. Nearby Ring customers could review the request and decide whether to share a particular clip.
  5. The customer could share selected video, ignore the request, or disable Community Request notifications.

That is materially different from a live camera feed or unrestricted access to Ring’s cloud. Ring’s announcement described a request-and-response system—not continuous monitoring, automatic uploads, or a searchable database of every Ring camera.

Why the partnership was canceled

On February 12, 2026, Ring said a review found that completing the planned integration would require significantly more time and resources than expected. Ring and Flock then confirmed that the partnership had been canceled.

The companies did not establish that public criticism alone caused the cancellation. The documented explanation is the time and engineering effort required to build the connection.

Was Ring footage sent to Flock?

Ring and Flock say no. Their statements say the integration never launched, so no Ring customer videos were sent to Flock through the canceled partnership.

That is the companies’ stated position. The available announcements do not describe an independent audit, technical inspection, or third-party verification of every potentially relevant system. It is therefore more precise to say that Ring and Flock report that no footage was transferred through this integration—not to imply that an outside investigation verified the claim.

The cancellation announcement is available from Ring and Flock.

What Flock Safety is

Flock Safety sells public-safety technology, including automated license-plate-recognition cameras, sensors, investigative software, and related systems. Its FlockOS platform is marketed as a way to connect sources such as public and private video, license-plate readers, drones, sensors, dispatch systems, and records platforms.

That broader role explains why the proposed Ring connection attracted privacy concerns. Routing voluntary requests for consumer-camera footage through a larger investigative platform could raise questions about agency policies, retention, legal process, and downstream sharing. Those concerns do not prove that Ring footage was transferred through the canceled integration.

  • Tailored detection for more exact alerts — 3D Motion Detection pinpoints motion on your property so you’ll receive more precise alerts and fewer interruptions.
  • True color, even in low light — With Low-Light Sight, just a little ambient light gives you true color video. In total darkness, your camera switches to crisp black-and-white to keep details sharp.

Community Requests still exists

Canceling the Flock partnership did not end Ring’s relationship with public-safety agencies. Ring launched Community Requests with verified agencies using Axon Evidence, and Ring says the broader feature remains a core part of its service.

For Ring owners, the important distinctions are:

  • Receiving a request: A customer may be notified that an agency is seeking footage.
  • Viewing a request: The customer can decide whether the request is relevant.
  • Sharing a clip: Participation is described as voluntary, and the customer chooses whether and what to share.
  • Continuing access: A request is not described as giving an agency ongoing access to the camera.
  • Live video: The canceled Flock proposal was not described as a live feed.

Ring says each Community Request is publicly posted and searchable, with specific incident information. That should not be confused with the underlying customer video being public: the request may be visible, while footage remains with the customer unless voluntarily submitted. The announcements do not fully specify every current retention, deletion, or downstream-access policy after a customer shares a clip.

Privacy questions customers should still consider

Voluntary sharing reduces the risk of an undisclosed automatic transfer, but it does not remove every privacy issue. A clip may include neighbors, workers, visitors, children, license plates, or activity unrelated to the incident. Customers should also consider:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • How much footage they are sending beyond the relevant moment.
  • How long the requesting agency retains the clip.
  • Whether it enters an evidence-management system.
  • Whether it can later be shared with other agencies.
  • What legal process applies after voluntary submission.
  • Whether a submitted clip can be withdrawn.
  • Whether account owners and shared users have identical controls.

The available Ring announcements do not answer all of those questions. Customers who need definitive answers should review Ring’s current privacy documentation and ask the requesting agency about retention and disclosure practices.

What this means for construction sites and property owners

For a homeowner, contractor, builder, property manager, or HOA, the canceled deal does not turn a Ring camera into part of Flock’s network. A Flock-enabled agency does not, by itself, gain access to every Ring camera near a job site or property.

However, a Ring owner may still receive a voluntary request for footage after an incident. Construction and property-management teams should establish a simple policy before that happens:

  1. Identify who controls the Ring account and who may respond.
  2. Preserve the original clip and note the requested date, time, and location.
  3. Share only the narrowest relevant clip if disclosure is approved.
  4. Check whether the footage includes employees, subcontractors, residents, or unrelated visitors.
  5. Ask the agency how the footage will be stored and disclosed.
  6. Document what was shared and when.

Practical limitations can also affect whether useful footage exists. A camera may have been offline, motion detection may not have triggered, the recording history may have expired, or the account may not have an applicable recording plan. A request cannot create footage that was never recorded.

Do not confuse Flock with Ring Search Party

The proposed Flock integration was separate from Ring’s Search Party feature, which was promoted as a way to help locate lost pets using participating Ring cameras. Search Party generated separate privacy criticism, including backlash surrounding a Super Bowl advertisement. It was not the same system as Community Requests or the canceled Flock proposal. The distinction is also noted in Associated Press coverage.

Similarly, claims that the canceled partnership created direct Ring access for ICE, federal agencies, or all Flock customers are not established by the sources for this story. Flock’s wider data-sharing practices are a separate issue requiring separate evidence.

Should privacy-conscious buyers choose Ring?

Ring may suit buyers who value simple installation, cloud access, app-based alerts, and integration with a broader smart-home system. Ring’s recording and advanced features generally depend on its subscription structure; current plan information is published at Ring’s plans page.

It may be a poor fit for buyers who require local-only storage, minimal vendor involvement, or no public-safety request workflow. Those readers should investigate local-storage-oriented alternatives such as Reolink, UniFi Protect, or selected Eufy models, while checking current model-specific privacy and cloud terms. Google Nest and Arlo are other consumer cloud-camera ecosystems to compare, but none should be treated as automatically privacy-free.

Flock is not a normal consumer-camera alternative. Its pricing page describes customized solutions for public agencies, HOAs, businesses, houses of worship, and other organizations rather than retail homeowner purchases.

What Ring owners can do now

  • Review any Community Request before responding.
  • Share only the relevant footage, if you choose to participate.
  • Do not assume that declining a request creates a penalty; Ring describes participation as voluntary.
  • Disable Community Request notifications if that control is available in your current Ring settings.
  • Review Ring’s current privacy and subscription terms.
  • Ask the requesting agency about retention, evidence handling, and later disclosure.

App labels and settings can change, so Ring owners should use the current Ring app or contact Ring support rather than rely on an outdated menu path.
