ADT+ is the best fit—not universally the best security system—for Google Nest users who want professionally monitored security connected to eligible Nest cameras, doorbells, thermostats, and Google Home features. It offers a stronger Nest-centered monitoring combination than most mainstream alternatives, but it costs more, may involve a long-term contract, and does not eliminate Google Home or every separate subscription.
What ADT+ actually is
ADT+ is primarily the app and web platform used with newer ADT smart-home and self-setup systems. It combines ADT alarm control, account management, compatible smart-home controls, and access to eligible Google Nest devices. It is not a standalone alarm that makes every Nest product part of ADT’s professionally monitored security system.

Trusted Neighbor is not general Nest compatibility
The documented Trusted Neighbor feature has restrictive requirements: ADT base model S501R0-01, Yale Assure Lock 2 model YRD410, a compatible Google Nest Doorbell, ADT Complete professional monitoring, Nest Aware, and Google familiar-face detection. Owning a different Nest camera or Yale lock does not establish eligibility. Check the model numbers before purchasing.
Does ADT+ replace Google Home?
No. ADT+ consolidates many controls, but Google Home and the linked Google account remain part of the system for some notifications, video functions, remote controls, and Nest intelligence. Think of the platforms this way:

A camera event is also not automatically an ADT alarm. Person, package, or familiar-face detection may produce a video event or notification without becoming a professionally monitored intrusion signal or triggering dispatch. ADT should confirm any specific camera-to-alarm workflow in writing.
Professional monitoring and outage behavior
The main reason to choose ADT+ over a DIY Nest-centered setup is professional monitoring. In independent 2026 testing, Security.org reported reliable performance during simulated power and internet outages and an average monitoring response of about 20 seconds in its scenarios. It also reported six redundant monitoring centers across North America.
That result is not a guarantee for every household. Actual response depends on alarm verification, cellular connectivity, local conditions, false-alarm handling, and emergency-service procedures. ADT’s SMART Monitoring workflow may alert household members so they can help verify or cancel an alarm before ADT contacts them or emergency services; confirm the exact workflow for your plan and location.

Ask ADT to distinguish four separate functions:
- Whether the alarm can sound locally during an internet outage.
- Whether the system can communicate with ADT through cellular backup.
- Whether Nest video, remote control, and notifications still work without broadband.
- Which Google-dependent features, such as familiar-face detection, stop working when Google services or the account are unavailable.

Prices vary by product line, equipment, location, promotion, installation, and eligibility. The figures below were advertised or reported in the supplied sources and should not be treated as universal quotes.

ADT’s Blu shopping page displayed Self-Protect at $14.99 per month without professional monitoring and Pro-Protect at $24.99 per month with professional monitoring. The page showed no long-term contract for those plans, while equipment costs varied by kit and add-ons. These figures do not establish that Blu offers the same Nest integration or feature set as professionally installed ADT.
Professionally installed ADT
An ADT professional-installation promotion reviewed for this article advertised a minimum $349 system purchase and monitoring starting at $59.99 per month for 36 months, alongside promotional Nest equipment, AutoPay enrollment, and early-cancellation conditions. That promotion showed an August 24, 2026 expiration date, so readers should request a current quote rather than assume those terms remain available.
At $59.99 per month, monitoring alone totals $2,159.64 over 36 months, before equipment, taxes, installation extras, permits, service-plan charges, or other fees. A separate offer showed $49.99 monthly monitoring for a specified bundle, but that was not a universal list price. California contract terms may differ; ADT’s residential terms identify 24-month contracts in some California circumstances.
Before ordering, ask:
- Is this ADT Blu/self-setup or professionally installed ADT?
- Is professional monitoring included?
- Is Nest Aware or Google Home Premium included, discounted, or billed separately?
- Is the commitment month-to-month, 24 months, or 36 months?
- How is early cancellation calculated?
- Are installation, activation, permits, taxes, cellular backup, or service-plan charges extra?
- Which equipment is purchased, financed, rented, or required to be returned?
- Does the promotion apply to your existing Nest devices?
Does Nest Aware come with ADT?
Do not assume it does. ADT support pages describe Nest Aware differently depending on the product and plan context: one says it is included with relevant ADT professional monitoring, while another says Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus are sold separately and required for certain ADT smart-home and Nest functions. Nest Aware inclusion depends on the ADT product line, plan, and offer. Confirm whether it is bundled, discounted, or billed separately, for how long, and what happens when a promotion ends.
Installation and setup
Professional installation
Professional installation makes sense for homeowners who want sensor placement, wiring, configuration, and system testing handled for them. Before the installer arrives, confirm which customer-owned Nest devices can be connected, whether ADT will install them, and whether Google account linking is included. Your Wi-Fi and Google account should be ready.
Self-setup with ADT Blu
Self-setup is better suited to renters, DIY users, and buyers who want lower upfront friction or a potentially shorter commitment. It may not include the same cameras, Nest integration, monitoring scope, or advanced features as the professionally installed package. Get the hardware and feature list for the exact configuration rather than comparing the cheapest monthly price with a different ADT product.
Former Nest Secure users: expect a replacement, not a replica
Nest Secure is no longer a current Google security-system option, making ADT+ a natural consideration for former users who want Nest devices plus professional monitoring. However, ADT+ is not a one-for-one recreation of Nest Secure.

Privacy and reliability
ADT+ combines alarm hardware, cloud services, Google accounts, Wi-Fi, and camera video. Secure both accounts with unique passwords and multifactor authentication. Review camera placement so it does not unnecessarily capture bedrooms, neighboring properties, or other private areas.
Check battery backup and cellular backup rather than assuming they exist. A broadband failure may interrupt Nest video, remote access, or notifications while the local alarm and cellular alarm path continue operating. Conversely, an account, Google-service, or cellular failure can affect different parts of the system in different ways.

Choose ADT+ if you own several supported Nest devices, want 24/7 professional monitoring, value professional installation, and expect to remain in your home long enough to justify the commitment.
Choose something else if you rent, want month-to-month service, reject contracts, need the lowest total cost, prefer extensive third-party automation, or only want camera alerts without a monitoring center.

ADT+ is a strong candidate—and arguably the best mainstream option—for professionally monitored Google Nest security. Its advantage is the combination of ADT alarm monitoring with eligible Nest cameras, doorbells, thermostats, and Google services. Its disadvantages are equally important: product-line confusion, subscription uncertainty, cloud and account dependence, higher cost, and possible 36-month commitments.
Before signing, obtain a written equipment list, verify every Nest model, confirm Nest Aware treatment, test the Google Home linking requirements, and calculate the full contract cost.
