Its appeal is straightforward: a small 1080p-class projector with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, casting, and Xiaomi Mi Home integration. Its biggest weakness is equally important: the available evidence does not confirm a globally supported streaming platform such as Google TV or Netflix for this specific model.

What Redmi actually launched
The device is the Redmi Projector Lite Edition. Reporting from Notebookcheck places its Chinese launch in March 2024, with a 699-yuan presale or introductory price.

That makes it distinct from the original Redmi Projector, which launched in 2022 at 999 yuan, and from later models including the Redmi Projector 2, Redmi Projector 3 Lite, and Redmi Projector 4 Pro. Xiaomi’s Chinese store still lists the Lite Edition, as well as the newer Redmi Projector 3 Lite Edition, but a current listing does not prove a new launch or U.S. availability.

Why it looks capable for the money
The Lite Edition is designed as a compact, vertical projector. Available reporting associates it with dimensions of approximately 113 × 146 × 172.5 mm and a weight of about 1.2 kg. It also includes LED illumination, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, wireless connectivity, screen casting, and integration with Xiaomi’s Mi Home smart-home ecosystem.
In practical terms, “smart” appears to mean that the projector can connect to Xiaomi’s platform, participate in smart-home scenes, accept wireless casts, and run built-in software without immediately requiring a separate HDMI device. That is useful—but it is not the same as having a globally certified smart-TV operating system.
The available evidence describes the projector as offering 1080p-class capability, but buyers should verify the exact Chinese specification sheet before treating that as confirmed native 1920 × 1080 imaging. Resolution, brightness, ports, throw ratio, operating system, and keystone features should not be borrowed from another Redmi or Xiaomi projector.

699 yuan was a Chinese launch price, not a guaranteed dollar price. Currency rates change, and an imported unit may also incur:
- International shipping and seller markup
- Import duties, taxes, or brokerage charges
- Power-plug or adapter costs
- A separate streaming stick
- Return shipping and China-based warranty service
For a U.S. buyer, the delivered price could therefore be substantially above $100. The available evidence does not establish an official U.S. retail listing, U.S. warranty coverage, or a current U.S. street price.

What “smart” may mean outside China
This is the most important buying issue. A China-market projector may have Chinese-only or partially translated menus, a region-specific app store, missing Google Play services, and voice features tied to Chinese services. Mi Home setup may also depend on selecting the China region in Xiaomi’s app.
There is no verified evidence here that the Redmi Projector Lite Edition includes Netflix certification, Google TV, Google Assistant, or full Google Play support. Do not confuse it with the globally marketed Xiaomi Mi Smart Compact Projector, whose official specifications include Android TV 9.0, Netflix certification, Google Assistant, dual-band Wi-Fi, and 500 ANSI lumens. Those are different products.

Test whether casting works from your iPhone, Android phone, Windows PC, or Mac, and whether protected streaming content is supported. If the built-in software is unsuitable, an HDMI streaming stick or box may be necessary—assuming the projector has the required HDMI input.
Will it work in a living room?
Expect the Redmi Lite Edition to perform best in a dark bedroom, dorm, apartment, or nighttime viewing area—not as a bright television replacement.
Projector brightness should be stated in ANSI or ISO lumens. Generic “lumens” claims are difficult to compare and should not be treated as proof of daylight performance. The available sources do not provide reliable independent measurements for this model’s brightness, contrast, color accuracy, fan noise, or image uniformity.

Room conditions matter as much as the projector. Daylight, overhead lighting, a colored wall, and an oversized image can quickly wash out a low-cost projector. A 60- to 80-inch image is a more realistic target for enjoyable viewing than assuming a bright 100- or 120-inch picture. A flat white or light-gray wall, blackout curtains, and a properly positioned screen will help.
Xiaomi notes on its global projector documentation that ambient light and wall color affect results. Even a better-documented 500-ANSI-lumen Xiaomi model is intended to be used with attention to viewing conditions, so a roughly $100 China-market unit should not be expected to produce television-like brightness.
Setup checklist
- Place the projector on a stable, level surface or a suitable stand.
- Aim it at a flat, light-colored wall or projector screen.
- Connect the supplied power cable and turn the unit on.
- Select the language and region available on the installed firmware.
- Connect to a compatible 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network if supported by that regional model.
- Run focus and keystone correction, then reduce keystone use if you can physically reposition the projector.
- Test the built-in applications and casting from your intended devices.
- Connect an HDMI streaming device if the internal software lacks your services.
- Pair the remote and any Bluetooth speaker or headphones.
- Check whether firmware updates are available for your region before relying on the projector.
Exact menu labels and paths should not be assumed because an English-language interface for this China-market model has not been verified. Keep the seller’s return policy and setup documentation available until casting, streaming, and language support have been tested.

The projector may be suitable for casual console or PC gaming in a dark room, but 1080p resolution alone does not establish gaming performance. The available research does not provide an independent input-lag measurement.
Before buying, verify that the HDMI input accepts your console’s preferred resolution and refresh rate. Also consider motion clarity, dark-scene visibility, fan noise during long sessions, and whether automatic keystone correction adds processing delay. Without measured input lag, this projector cannot be recommended for competitive gaming.

Who should consider it?
It may fit if you:
- Watch mostly at night or in a dark room
- Want a large image at the lowest possible upfront price
- Live in a dorm, bedroom, apartment, or temporary home
- Are comfortable importing China-market hardware
- Can use an external streaming device if necessary
- Value Xiaomi Mi Home integration
Look elsewhere if you:
- Need Netflix and mainstream apps to work natively
- Expect English-first software and local support
- Will watch sports, news, or television in daylight
- Need verified low input lag for competitive games
- Require an official local warranty and easy returns
- Care more about consistent image quality than maximum screen size
Alternatives worth comparing
The newer Redmi Projector 3 Lite Edition may be worth investigating, but its software, brightness, ports, and regional support should be verified independently rather than assumed to match the original Lite Edition.
The global Mi Smart Compact Projector is better documented internationally, with manufacturer-listed Android TV 9.0, Netflix certification, 500 ANSI lumens, and Google Assistant. It is not a sub-$100 product, however.
Another practical route is a used DLP projector from an established brand paired with an external streaming device. A globally supported projector may cost more initially but offer better warranty service, clearer app compatibility, and a lower risk of turning setup into a separate technical project.
Bottom line
The Redmi Projector Lite Edition is interesting because it combines a compact design, wireless features, and Xiaomi smart-home integration with a 699-yuan Chinese introductory price. But it was introduced in March 2024, not newly launched in August 2026, and the $100 figure does not represent a confirmed U.S. delivered price.
For dark-room casual viewing, it could be appealing to buyers who accept China-market software and import risk. For a dependable U.S. home-theater setup, verify language, streaming certification, HDMI support, brightness, warranty, and total landed cost before ordering.
