The remaining construction is expected to begin once acquisition is complete, but the available report does not confirm that work has restarted or give a completion date.
Has construction restarted?
Not according to the available status report. The headline signals an expected restart after a long delay; it does not establish that crews or machinery have returned to the site. PMC roads department official Rajesh Bankar said paperwork had been completed and compensation had been disbursed. What is the project and why was it delayed?
The Baner–Pashan Link Road is a reported 1.2 km-long, 36 m-wide road in Pune. It was sanctioned in 1992, and construction began in 2014. Work was held up by acquisition of a 200 m stretch, which had remained pending for 12 years, according to The Indian Express report.

What changed on land acquisition?
PMC reportedly paid about ₹68 crore in compensation connected to the land acquisition. Bankar, who is in charge of PMC’s roads department, said the paperwork had been completed. The report nevertheless describes acquisition as needing completion before the remaining construction starts. Compensation disbursement and formal completion of acquisition are therefore distinct stages; the available account does not confirm that acquisition is formally complete.
What did the court direct?
The Welfare Trust petitioned the Bombay High Court in 2021 over the delay. According to The Indian Express’s account, the court directed PMC in August 2023 to acquire the land and submit a timeline. In April 2025, it ordered acquisition within two months and construction within four months after acquisition. The report’s later account still makes construction conditional on acquisition being complete, rather than confirming that the court-ordered stages have been finished.

Which areas are expected to benefit?
The report estimates that about 250,000 residents of Baner, Pashan, Sutarwadi and surrounding areas may benefit from the road. This is a reported estimate of expected beneficiaries, not a measured traffic or travel-time outcome.
