There is no universally agreed worst-to-best floor-jack brand order. In its October 15, 2025 review aggregation, SlashGear puts Blackhawk first, but its comparison combines professional recommendations and customer reviews of particular models—not a brand-wide durability or safety test. Other buying guides choose different winners for different jobs.
What the review-based ranking actually tells you
SlashGear’s October 2025 ranking covers Torin’s Big Red line, Husky, Harbor Freight’s Pittsburgh and Daytona brands, Badland off-road jacks, and Blackhawk Automotive. Its editors say they used professional reviews to identify popular brands with good reputations, then compared customer ratings from retail outlets. The article says the leading ratings were close and singles out Blackhawk’s Banner B6350OG as its top pick because it had no customer ratings below four stars in the sample, was competitively priced, and was rated for 3.5 tons while competing top models were rated for 3 tons.
That makes the ranking an editorial synthesis of named products and review snapshots, not evidence that every Blackhawk jack outperforms every jack from another brand. Nor does a high star average establish that a jack is suitable for a particular vehicle or safe to use in a particular job. SlashGear’s figures are dated snapshots, not current retailer ratings.

SlashGear also discusses Big Red and Badland, but the review figures above should not be treated as a complete or current catalogue comparison. The article describes the Big Red AT84007R as a steel, low-profile, dual-piston 4-ton jack with a 4-inch minimum height and 20-inch maximum lift. It reports that Car and Driver called it its “Best Jack for Trucks” in 2025. For Harbor Freight models, SlashGear notes complaints including wheels falling off, hydraulic leaks, and failures to lift or lower; it also reports high ratings for Badland off-road jacks alongside a small number of hydraulic complaints. Aggregate ratings do not make those failure reports irrelevant.

A ranking changes when the intended use and evaluation method change. Car and Driver’s 2026 roundup names Blackhawk its best traditional floor jack and the Big Red AT84007R its best jack for trucks. Its Gear Team says it tested floor jacks, bottle jacks, and specialty designs, evaluating lifting speed and height, stability, portability, and ease of use.

The Drive’s guide, updated August 15, 2024, instead names Big Red its overall pick, Husky its value pick, and Badland its off-road pick, with Daytona as an honorable mention. These choices are not necessarily contradictory: a low-profile garage jack, a truck jack, and an off-road jack solve different problems. They do show why no single brand order should substitute for matching a model to the vehicle and task.
How to choose a jack for your vehicle and job
Check capacity against the vehicle and lift point
Use the jack’s rated capacity as one screening criterion, not as proof of fit. Confirm the vehicle’s weight and the capacity needed at the specific lift point against the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions and the jack’s documentation. A brand’s place in a review ranking does not establish that a given model is appropriate for your vehicle.

Compare minimum and maximum lift height
The minimum height determines whether the saddle can get under the vehicle at the intended lift point. Maximum height determines whether the jack can raise it far enough for the planned task and for correctly positioned stands. Low-profile models may help where clearance is limited, but the listed minimum height alone does not guarantee clearance at every vehicle’s lift point.

Consider where and how you will move it
Material and weight affect portability and cost trade-offs. Aluminum jacks can be easier to move; steel may be a more economical choice for a jack kept in one location. Lift speed and effort also matter for frequent use: Car and Driver includes lift speed among its test criteria, while pump design and the jack’s operation affect convenience.

Read review counts and failure reports together
A high average based on a relatively small number of reviews offers a different amount of evidence than a similar average based on thousands. Read the reported problems as well as the score, paying attention to recurring concerns such as leaks or lift and lowering failures. Review patterns can inform a decision, but they do not replace checking a specific model’s specifications, condition, and instructions.

A floor jack lifts a vehicle; it is not a substitute for supports. After lifting, place appropriately rated jack stands at the vehicle maker’s designated support points before working underneath, and follow the vehicle and stand manufacturers’ instructions. The Drive warns that jack stands are essential even for brief work because components in a hydraulic system can fail under stress. Never rely on the jack alone to hold a vehicle while you are beneath it.

Verify the exact Blackhawk model before comparing listings
The model numbers differ across the cited coverage: SlashGear discusses Blackhawk B6350 and Banner B6350OG, while Car and Driver labels its tested pick B6530. Do not assume those labels refer to the same jack. Check the model number on the manufacturer or retailer listing and product label before using a review or specification to assess a particular SKU.
