The Pop-a-top Turned Bottle Opener Woodworking Plan is a WOOD Store turning project for a wooden bottle-opener handle shaped like a bottle. It is product GR-01108 and is associated with WOOD Issue 238 (March 2016). The publisher’s description establishes the project concept, but not the dimensions or instructions needed to build it.
What the Pop-a-top plan covers
WOOD Store credits turning professional Brian Simmons with developing the bottle-shaped handle concept for a bottle-opener kit. Its listing recounts that he first made a plain handle, tested it on a bottle of cold brew, and then chose to make the handle resemble a bottle. WOOD Store’s plan listing and WOOD Magazine’s plan page identify the project and its issue provenance; the magazine page was updated January 9, 2024.
The plan belongs to WOOD Store’s turning projects and kitchen accessories categories. The store says its plans generally include drawings, material lists, and step-by-step instructions, but its accessible description does not establish what is included in this particular file. The plan itself is therefore the source to consult for build details.
What is—and is not—specified before purchase
The listing names the opener hardware only as a bottle-opener kit. It does not identify a kit brand or provide compatibility measurements. Its accessible description also does not state wood species, blank dimensions, required tools, or construction steps. Do not choose a blank or buy hardware on the assumption that an arbitrary kit will fit; check the plan’s measurements first.

Choosing opener hardware for a turned handle
Because the design is intended for a bottle-opener kit, hardware is a relevant part of planning—but the listing does not confirm a specific model or establish that any particular kit is compatible. Compare the hardware with the plan before buying:
