Philips Hue’s Natural Light scene is not a new 2026 rollout. It is an established, time-based scene that shifts compatible lights between warmer and cooler white settings and can vary brightness through the day. What is newer is Hue hardware with a broader white-light range, plus separate features such as SpatialAware. You can use Natural Light with compatible Hue lights; the controls available depend on the bulbs, app, firmware and whether you use Bluetooth or a Bridge.
What Natural Light changes
Natural Light applies scheduled lighting states to a Hue room or group. Across the day, it can change two things: the shade of white and the brightness. Warmer white has a lower color temperature and looks more amber; cooler white has a higher color temperature and looks whiter or bluer. A dim, warm setting tends to feel more evening-like than a bright warm setting.

The scene uses time slots, with transitions between them. Hue’s app provides controls for white-light shade, brightness and transition speed, and it supports adjusting a transition to local sunset. Exact slots and controls can vary with the app interface, room and light capabilities. Hue does not establish one universal Kelvin-by-hour schedule for every setup, so treat the app’s displayed settings as authoritative for your lights.
This is scheduled lighting, not a precise simulation of sunlight entering a particular window or a medically validated circadian-lighting system. No sleep, focus or health benefit follows automatically from using the scene.

How to find and set up the scene
- Open the Philips Hue app and choose the relevant Room or Zone.
- Open the room’s scenes or Scene Gallery and look for Natural Light. Add or apply it if it is not already available.
- Open the scene’s edit control, commonly shown as a pencil icon. Review the time slots, brightness, white-light shade and transition speed; enable automatic sunset adjustment if that option appears.
- Save the changes. If you want a physical or automatic trigger, assign the scene through a supported automation, timer, sensor, dimmer switch or smart button.
Philips Hue’s scene support page lists help for finding Natural Light and changing its brightness, white shade, transition speed and sunset adjustment. App labels can change, so a menu may look different after an update.
Is Natural Light new in 2026?
No. Hue’s iOS release notes show the feature predates 2026: it was present by December 2022, then gained additional controls and triggers during 2023.

- Works with Alexa for voice control (Alexa device sold separately). For the full Hue experience and to take advantage of voice activation purchase the Philips Hue Hub (Model: 458471). Search "Philips Hue Hub" or "B016H0QZ7I" to find this product on Amazon.
- Automate your lighting experience with Philips Hue and control your lights from home or away. Create light schedules from the Philips Hue App and never come home to a dark house.
- Requiring the Hue Bridge (sold separately) for the full Hue experience, this bulb fits standard-size table lamps.
- Install the LED light as you would install ordinary bulbs, pairing them with the Hue Bridge, which allows you to control smart-bulb-equipped lamps and overhead lights via the Philips Hue App.
- Easily expand your lighting system with accessories (sold separately), such as a Hue Dimmer Switch, Hue Tap, or Hue Motion Sensor. Pair it for automation with your existing Nest or SmartThings system.
- February 2023: Natural Light became an option for Coming Home and Custom automations and timers.
- July 2023: Hue added automatic adjustment to local sunset.
- August 2023: Hue added adjustable transition speed and expanded motion-sensor support.
- November 2023: Hue added support for dimmer switches and smart buttons.
So a report that the scene is “rolling out” may refer to a particular regional app release, account or newer product, but the available release history does not support describing Natural Light itself as a first-time 2026 launch.

Which lights and Hue setup can use it?
Choose adjustable-white lights
A light needs to support tunable white or color-and-white output to move between white shades. A fixed-color smart bulb cannot reproduce that temperature change. Hue White and Color Ambiance products may support the scene, but their usable range, brightness and color rendering differ by model and generation. Decorative candle bulbs can also have different output and form-factor constraints from A19 or larger bulbs.

Newer products advertise full-spectrum daylight and Chromasync color matching; those are hardware/output characteristics, not a Natural Light schedule. Hue’s 60W A19 product page describes these features. Older compatible bulbs may still run a time-based scene, but a newer bulb’s broader or more consistent white output can change how convincing the result looks.
Bluetooth or Bridge?
Bluetooth can handle basic local control on supported products, while Hue says a Bridge unlocks additional functionality. The exact availability of Natural Light controls may vary by bulb, firmware, app version and connection method. A Bridge is the stronger choice if you want multi-room control, richer automations, sensors, switches or remote access; Natural Light should not be treated as exclusive to Bridge Pro. See Hue’s product catalog for current product and connectivity details.

What Hue actually added in 2026
The newer 2026 story is mainly about bulb hardware, not a newly launched Natural Light scene. Signify announced next-generation candle bulbs with full-spectrum daylight technology and Matter support, with U.S. availability beginning in June 2026 through Philips Hue and selected retailers. Signify claims 40% greater energy efficiency compared with specified predecessor candle-bulb models; that figure is a manufacturer comparison, not a claim about every Hue bulb. Details are in the Signify announcement.

Prices, stock and availability can change; check the catalog for current listings. These products may be worth considering if you need their form factor, output or white-light characteristics, but you do not need to replace compatible bulbs simply because Natural Light exists.

SpatialAware is a different feature
Hue SpatialAware uses a phone or tablet camera to map lights’ relative positions, then distributes colors from compatible scenes according to room layout. Signify announced it for Bridge Pro users in 2026, emphasizing nature-inspired scenes such as Lake Mist, Mountain Breeze, Savanna Sunset and Lake Placid. It is about where colors appear across the room, not a time-of-day white-temperature schedule. See Signify’s SpatialAware announcement.
| Feature | Main purpose | Changes over time? | Special hardware |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural Light | Scheduled changes in white shade and brightness | Yes, by time slot | Compatible Hue lights; controls vary by setup |
| Full-spectrum Hue bulbs | Broader or more consistent white-light output | Only when a scene or automation changes them | Newer bulb models |
| SpatialAware | Distributes scene colors based on light placement | Not primarily a time schedule | Bridge Pro and compatible scenes |
Limitations and fixes if it is not behaving as expected
- The scene or controls are missing: Update the Hue app, bulbs and Bridge if updates are available, then check that the lights are in the intended Room or Zone and support adjustable white light.
- Changes do not happen on schedule: Check whether another automation, sensor, voice command or manual adjustment is taking control. A light switched off at its wall switch cannot respond to a scheduled change.
- Sunset timing is wrong or unavailable: Check the home location and relevant app settings or permissions. Test with fixed times first, then try sunset adjustment.
- Bulbs do not match: Different generations and models can have different white ranges, brightness and color rendering. Mixed bulbs may not look identical even when assigned the same scene.
- Bluetooth does not expose the options you expect: Compare the available controls with a Bridge-based setup before assuming the scene is unsupported.
Natural Light is a practical way to automate changing white light in a Hue room, but it is not a promise that every bulb will match outdoor daylight or follow the sun continuously.
