The recall announced on March 14, 2024, covers approximately 187,400 units sold in the United States and approximately 99,900 sold in Canada. The “over 250,000” figure refers to the combined North American recall population—not the U.S. total alone.

Which Insignia air fryers are recalled?
The recall is model-specific. Do not identify an affected appliance by its color, size, appearance, or the fact that it was purchased at Best Buy. Check the model number on the rating label, generally located on the underside of the unit.

The affected products were sold at Best Buy stores nationwide and online through Best Buy, eBay, and third-party sellers from November 2021 through November 2023. Reported prices were approximately $32 to $180.
A similar-looking Insignia appliance is not automatically part of this recall. The model number on the rating label is the decisive detail. If the label is damaged or unreadable, do not guess based on appearance; use the official recall instructions to determine how to proceed.
Why were the air fryers recalled?
According to the recall notice, the affected air fryers can overheat. That overheating can cause the handle to melt or break and can create fire and burn hazards.

Best Buy reported 24 incidents involving overheating, melting, or glass shattering, including six reports of the air fryers catching fire. The official notice reported no injuries or property damage associated with this March 2024 recall at the time of the notice.
Those incident figures do not mean that every recalled unit will fail, nor do they predict exactly what will happen to an individual appliance. They do mean that the identified models present a recognized safety hazard and should be removed from use.
What owners should do now
- Stop using the appliance immediately if its model number matches one of the six listed above.
- Unplug it when it is safe to do so. Do not handle a hot, damaged, smoking, or visibly compromised appliance. If there is an active fire, leave the area and contact emergency services; do not put yourself at risk trying to retrieve the appliance.
- Do not return the recalled air fryer to a Best Buy retail store. The official instructions direct consumers to use the recall process instead.
- Register for the recall remedy using the official instructions. The remedy is a refund in the form of a refund check or Best Buy store credit, depending on the documented purchase information and the instructions that apply to the claim.
- Have identification and purchase details available. The process may request the model number, purchase information, photographs, or other supporting documentation.
- Do not use the appliance while waiting for a response. Heat-resistant gloves, liners, additional cleaning, or supervision do not correct the overheating, electrical, melting, fire, or glass-shattering hazard.
Recall procedures and remedy availability can change. Check the current official recall instructions before submitting a claim. Best Buy’s product-recalls page continues to list the March 14, 2024 Insignia air-fryer recall, but the availability of a particular consumer’s refund should not be assumed without checking the current process.
How to find the model number
- Make sure the appliance is unplugged and cool enough to handle safely.
- Look for the product rating label, generally on the underside of the air fryer or air-fryer oven.
- Read the complete model number, including letters, numbers, and the final characters.
- Compare it with the six-model list in this article and the official recall notice.
The Insignia brand name alone is not enough to establish that a product is recalled. Likewise, the capacity—such as 5, 8, or 10 quarts—is not enough by itself. Only the exact model number confirms whether the appliance is included in this notice.

Do not confuse this recall with the separate 2022 Insignia recall
Best Buy announced a separate Insignia air-fryer recall on April 21, 2022. That earlier event involved different models and approximately 635,000 units in the United States and 137,000 in Canada.
It is not the same recall as the March 14, 2024 notice. The 2022 figures should not be added to the 2024 figures when describing this specific recall. For the March 2024 recall discussed here, the appropriate figures are approximately 187,400 U.S. units, 99,900 Canadian units, or approximately 287,300 combined.
If you need a replacement
Only begin replacement shopping after dealing with the recalled appliance and following the official refund instructions. If you need the same general cooking format, search for a generic air fryer oven or replacement air fryer rather than trying to find another unit from the recalled list.
Before buying, check the exact replacement model number against current recall information, read the manufacturer’s safety and operating instructions, and verify the seller and return policy. Current inventory, pricing, reviews, and recall status can change, so a product should not be described as “recall-proof,” “safe,” or “CPSC approved” without product-specific evidence.

Do not purchase or recommend one of the six recalled Insignia models as a replacement. A product page for the recalled NS-AF10DBK2 indicates that it is no longer available new and displays recall information, which is another reason to avoid direct promotion of affected models.
What about oven mitts and air-fryer liners?
Heat-resistant oven mitts or gloves may be useful general kitchen accessories, but they do not make a recalled air fryer safe. They cannot correct an overheating, electrical, melting, fire, or glass-shattering defect.
Air-fryer liners are even less relevant to the remedy. They may affect cleanup or cooking in some appliances, but they do not address the defect identified in this recall and should not be presented as a safety solution.
Quick checklist for owners
- Locate the rating label on the underside of the appliance.
- Check for NS-AF34D2, NS-AF5DSS2, NS-AF5MSS2, NS-AF8DBD2, NS-AF10DBK2, or NS-AF10DSS2.
- Stop using any matching model immediately.
