What is the Opula smart coffee table?
Opula was designed as a multifunctional coffee table for work, entertainment and small-space living. In its closed position, it is intended to look like conventional furniture. When opened, it reveals an integrated computer and display rather than requiring a laptop or monitor to sit visibly on top.

The concept targets remote workers, creators, gamers, movie viewers and homeowners who want a living-room workstation without permanently displaying office equipment. It is more ambitious than a lift-top table: the computer, monitor, speakers, lighting and height-adjustment mechanism are built into the furniture itself.

How the hidden computer and screen work
- The table remains closed and functions as a coffee table.
- A metallic latch is released.
- The tabletop separates into two sections.
- The internal 27-inch display and computer compartment become visible.
- The screen can be tilted to a claimed maximum of 75 degrees.
- The table can be raised for a higher working position.
The “hidden computer” is an integrated mini-PC housed inside the table. Opula is not a conventional desktop tower with unrestricted access to standard components. That distinction matters for repairs, upgrades, cooling and eventual replacement.

These are campaign-era claims and reported specifications, not an independently audited production specification sheet. The phrase “4K HD” is also imprecise: 4K identifies a resolution class, while HD is a broader and potentially conflicting description. Buyers should request the final panel specification before treating it as a 4K monitor.
What did the Kickstarter campaign achieve?
Kicktraq records the campaign as running from April 24 through June 23, 2024. It reports HK$1,386,364 raised against a HK$78,327 goal, from 114 backers, or 1,769% of the target. The project was associated with Opula and described as a Hong Kong-based project in Kwun Tong.
That establishes that Opula was a real named crowdfunding project with a completed, funded campaign. It does not establish that the table entered reliable mass production, that every backer received one, that warranty service exists, or that retail inventory is available. The campaign figures come from a third-party tracker; readers should treat them as campaign records rather than proof of fulfillment. See the campaign tracking record.
Kickstarter’s own guidance explains that backing is not the same as buying an already manufactured product and that estimated delivery dates are targets rather than guarantees. Can you buy Opula now?
Current orderability is not verified. The reported early-bird price was approximately $999 during the 2024 campaign. That was a crowdfunding pledge level, not a confirmed current retail price.
As of the August 18, 2026 research snapshot, there was no verified official Opula storefront, current stock listing, completed-fulfillment record or functioning late-pledge route in the available evidence. Do not assume that an old campaign page, a reseller reference or the historical $999 figure means a table can be ordered today.
After a Kickstarter campaign ends, additional pledging is possible only if the creator provides a late-pledge option. Kickstarter’s late-pledge guidance explains the limitation. Anyone considering a purchase should first locate a current first-party order page, confirm stock and delivery terms, and obtain a written warranty and support contact.
Where Opula could work well
- Small apartments: one piece of furniture could provide a living-room table and occasional workstation.
- Entertainment: the display, speakers and ambient lighting could suit streaming, casual games and shared viewing.
- Creative use: the large screen may be useful for drawing or presentations, although stylus support and software compatibility were not established.
- Flexible rooms: wheels and a closing screen could allow the table to move or change purpose more easily than a fixed desk.
- Tabletop activities: the surface and display could support digital board games or collaborative viewing.
These are intended use cases, not independently tested performance claims.
Why it may not replace a proper desk
Height adjustment alone does not make a coffee table an ergonomic sit-stand workstation. A suitable chair, keyboard and mouse position, leg clearance, screen distance and stable working surface are still required.

Working from a couch can place the screen too low, encourage a bent neck and leave the keyboard unsupported. A 75-degree screen tilt may improve visibility, but it cannot correct poor seating height or an awkward reach. Serious desk work may require a separate keyboard and mouse, and users should check whether the raised table provides enough knee and leg clearance.

Backer commentary has raised concerns about price and posture, including whether couch-based use would remain comfortable beyond short sessions. Those are individual opinions rather than controlled ergonomic tests, but they identify a genuine design question. Treat Opula as an occasional or flexible workstation unless its final dimensions demonstrate otherwise.

The Ryzen 7 8845HS is a mobile processor platform, but the processor name alone does not establish gaming performance. The reviewed material did not verify a discrete GPU, RAM capacity, storage, cooling design, refresh rate or response time.
A display described as 4K does not mean the integrated computer can run demanding games at 4K. Buyers should request graphics hardware and sustained-load performance information before calling Opula a gaming PC. Enclosing computer hardware in furniture also creates practical questions about ventilation, fan noise, dust and heat.
The same caution applies to creative work. A large display may be attractive for drawing, editing or presentations, but color accuracy, stylus compatibility, ports and sustained thermal performance were not established.

Repairability and construction risks
Integrated furniture creates single points of failure. A failed monitor, computer, height motor, power supply or control panel could make an otherwise functional table difficult to use. Before buying, ask:
- Can the mini-PC be removed without dismantling the table?
- Is the display a standard, replaceable monitor?
- Are replacement parts sold separately?
- Can RAM or storage be upgraded?
- What operating system is installed?
- Are the power supply, cables and connectors accessible?
- Can the table be closed manually during a power outage or motor failure?
- Is there an emergency stop, child lock or manual override?
- Who handles warranty repairs in the United States?
- Who pays return freight for a large and heavy table?
None of these service details was established by the reviewed sources. They should be treated as purchase checks, not assumptions.
Safety, durability and installation questions
The claimed anti-pinch system may reduce risk during powered movement, but it is not the same as documented safety certification or a guarantee that injury is impossible. Children and pets should be kept away from moving sections, hinges and lifting legs.
Other practical concerns include:
- Liquid entering the exposed screen or computer compartment
- Instability when the table is raised
- Unlocked wheels allowing unexpected movement
- Power cables creating trip hazards
- Dust accumulating inside the enclosure
- Insufficient ventilation during sustained computer loads
- Damage during freight delivery or relocation
- Whether the tabletop finish withstands ordinary household use
For a construction or furniture-installation perspective, the table should be evaluated as a powered mechanism containing electronics, not simply as a decorative coffee table. Floor protection, access for delivery, electrical routing and future service access may matter as much as the appearance.

Opula versus a conventional setup
Opula’s strongest advantage is concealment: the monitor and computer disappear into one visually distinctive piece of furniture. It may also save space and provide mobility.
A conventional sit-stand desk with a standard 27-inch monitor and compact mini-PC is less visually integrated but usually offers clearer ergonomics, easier component replacement, simpler cable access and more flexible upgrades. A lift-top coffee table with a laptop or portable monitor offers another lower-risk approach. Commercial touchscreen tables may be better suited to specialized collaborative or educational environments.
The trade-off is straightforward: Opula prioritizes integration and novelty, while modular equipment prioritizes serviceability, upgradeability and predictable support.
