To troubleshoot an NTI boiler, identify its exact model, note the full displayed error or symptom, and follow the instructions in that model’s manual. NTI boilers use different manuals and fault procedures, so a reset or error-code explanation for one series should not be treated as universal. If a lockout keeps returning, stop resetting and contact a qualified service technician.
Start with the boiler’s model and exact fault
- Record the model. Find the boiler’s model identification label and write down the full model name.
- Note what the control displays. Record the complete error code and any visible message. If there is no code, describe the symptom, such as no heat or an unusual shutdown.
- Find the matching manual. Use NTI’s documentation and resources to locate the installation and operation manual for that specific model. Check that the manual applies to your boiler before using its fault definitions or reset instructions.
NTI publishes documentation across multiple product families; there is no single error-code list or troubleshooting procedure established here for every NTI boiler. The same displayed condition may require different steps depending on the series and its manual.
What you can safely check
Begin with observations and owner-level actions that the manual for your model explicitly permits. Read the manual’s description of the displayed fault and follow its stated instructions. If it does not direct an owner to perform a particular check or reset, do not assume that action is appropriate.
Do not open or work on gas, combustion, electrical, venting, or sealed boiler components based on generic troubleshooting advice. NTI states that installing and servicing its boilers requires extensive training; work beyond the manual’s owner guidance belongs with a qualified technician. Use NTI’s distributor locator to find a service or distribution contact.

Reset limits depend on the model
What the FTVN manual says
The NTI FTVN Installation and Operation Manual, revision dated February 25, 2021, distinguishes fault classifications and gives procedures for that series. For an FTVN boiler, the manual limits resets to five within 15 minutes. A sixth reset attempt in that period locks the boiler out until its electrical supply is disconnected and reconnected. The manual also says: “Contact a qualified service technician for assistance if a Lockout Error occurs frequently.”
These limits and instructions apply to the FTVN manual cited, not automatically to other NTI models. Do not keep resetting a recurring fault or use the FTVN reset limit as a rule for a different series. The manual warns that repeated lockout conditions could indicate a serious boiler or installation error; failing to contact a qualified technician could result in property damage, serious personal injury, or death.

When to contact NTI or a technician
Contact a qualified service technician when the correct manual calls for service, a lockout recurs, or the problem remains unresolved after permitted owner-level steps. For basic troubleshooting, NTI’s North American first-level support center began operating December 18, 2025; the company says it handles basic troubleshooting, including lockout resets, and routes complex cases to second-level support. NTI also provides support contact options, product videos, and a parts finder.
When you call, have the full model name, exact error display, manual revision if available, and a concise account of what happened before the fault. This helps support staff or the technician identify the applicable instructions without guessing across product families.

Cleaning and maintenance are model-specific
NTI lists a Heat Exchanger Coil Cleaning Tool and publishes cleaning instructions in its resources. Confirm that any tool and cleaning procedure are intended for your specific boiler before attempting maintenance. The listing does not establish compatibility with every NTI model.
