What the original Ninja SLUSHi does
The U.S. original is the Ninja SLUSHi 88 oz. Professional Frozen Drink Maker, model FS301. Unlike a blender, it does not crush ice into a drink. Its RapidChill technology chills and freezes the liquid directly inside the machine, while a WhisperChill compressor maintains the cold temperature.

That ice-free process has two practical advantages. The drink is not diluted as melting ice would dilute it, and the finished texture is produced throughout the beverage rather than only by blending ice at the moment of serving. Once the drink is ready, it dispenses through the machine’s self-serve handle.
The vessel holds 88 ounces, with a maximum liquid fill of 64 ounces. Ninja says that is enough for seven or more servings, depending on serving size. The original machine has five programs:

Each setting is designed for a different kind of drink, and the machine also allows temperature adjustment. That lets you make the result thicker or thinner than the preset default rather than treating every recipe the same way.
How long does it take?
Ninja’s launch material said drinks could be ready in as little as 15 minutes. That is not a guarantee for every recipe. The stated preparation range is approximately 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the ingredients, the volume in the vessel, and how cold the liquid is when it goes in.

It cannot literally turn every drink into a slushy
The original SLUSHi can be used with drinks such as frozen lemonades, fruit drinks, soda slushies, coffee frappés, frosé, and frozen margaritas. But the machine has an important compatibility restriction that is easy to miss in the headline: the mixture must contain sugar to slush successfully.
Ninja’s recipe guidance warns that diet soda and drinks made with sugar alternatives will not work in the original unit. That means a conventional sugary soda may be suitable while its sugar-free equivalent may not be. The issue is not simply whether the liquid tastes sweet; the composition of the mixture affects its freezing behavior.

Alcohol matters too. The “Spiked Slush” setting is intended for alcoholic recipes, but alcohol can make a mixture harder to freeze as its proportion increases. Sugar content, alcohol level, starting temperature, total volume, and the rest of the recipe all affect the result. Follow the instructions for the exact model rather than assuming that a recipe that works in one SLUSHi will behave identically in another.
The accurate takeaway is therefore: the Ninja SLUSHi freezes many qualifying liquid drinks directly, without ice. It is not a universal machine for every beverage, especially sugar-free or diet recipes in the original FS301.
What the newer SLUSHi models add
The FS301 remains important because it is the model named in the 2024 launch story. SharkNinja has since developed the concept into a larger family. These models should not be treated as interchangeable: capacities, features, model numbers, colors, and retailer availability can vary by market.
Ninja SLUSHi Max
The Ninja SLUSHi Max is aimed at larger batches and more frequent entertaining. Ninja describes it as having a 150-ounce vessel and a 112-ounce maximum liquid fill. The company also claims it is twice as big and twice as fast as the original FS301/FS300 comparison models, with qualifications that depend on the recipe. Those are manufacturer comparison claims, not independent laboratory results.
The Max adds SlushAssist Technology, which senses the liquid ingredients and automatically adjusts the temperature to help reach the intended consistency. That may reduce guesswork when preparing larger quantities, but it does not remove the need to use a compatible recipe.

Ninja SLUSHi XL
The SLUSHi XL is another larger-format option described in SharkNinja’s 2026 launch messaging. Its purpose is to provide roughly twice the capacity and speed of the original for people making a larger batch of one flavor. Check the exact regional model number and product listing before relying on a capacity figure, because the name alone does not establish the specifications of every market variant.
Ninja SLUSHi Twist
The Ninja SLUSHi Twist, announced in May 2026, changes the concept in a different direction. Instead of using one larger vessel, it has two independent 48-ounce vessels. Each side can run separately, so a host can prepare two flavors at once—for example, a cocktail on one side and a mocktail on the other. The outputs can also be combined into a single swirled drink.
SharkNinja says the Twist uses independent SlushAssist technology and can make more than 10 drinks per batch per side across categories including frappés, frozen margaritas, frosé, and milkshakes. Its main advantage is flexibility for gatherings, not simply the ability to make a larger quantity of one recipe.

- Recipe ingredients: use frozen-drink mixers, syrups, juices, soda, or cocktail ingredients whose composition is compatible with the instructions for the relevant model.
- Maintenance: replacement parts such as an auger or spout may be more practical than replacing the entire appliance if a wearable component is damaged.
Should you buy the original Ninja SLUSHi?
