The Dyson PencilVac Fluffycones is a real, newly launched Dyson cordless vacuum—but it is a specialist hard-floor cleaner, not a universal replacement for a conventional cordless vacuum. Its 38 mm-wide body, highly maneuverable floorhead and hair-handling brush design make it appealing for apartments, small homes and quick daily cleanups. The compromises are equally important: Dyson says it is not engineered for carpets, its dust bin is exceptionally small, and its 30-minute maximum runtime applies to Eco mode.
What is the Dyson PencilVac Fluffycones?
Dyson PencilVac is the name of the superslim vacuum format. Fluffycones identifies the version supplied with Dyson’s Fluffycones cleaner head, which uses four conical soft brush bars. Dyson also sells a separate PencilVac Fluffy with a Micro Fluffy head.

How the Fluffycones floorhead handles hair
The four soft brush bars are conical rather than conventional cylinders. Dyson says the shape moves long hair toward the narrower ends of the cones, where strands can be lifted or ejected instead of winding tightly around the brush bar.

- The cone shape guides long strands toward the narrower ends.
- The strands are intended to be released rather than wrapped around a central cylindrical roller.
The design is intended to reduce tangling, not eliminate maintenance. Long hair, pet fur, thread and other fibers can still collect in a cleaner head or airway and should be checked periodically.
Dyson also describes the head as offering edge-focused cleaning and forward-and-backward dust illumination. Those are Dyson’s design and performance claims, not independent laboratory results.

Why the superslim design matters
The narrow body is more than a cosmetic redesign. It reduces the machine’s storage footprint and can make it easier to guide between chair legs, table legs and other obstacles. Dyson gives the Fluffycones configuration an under-furniture clearance figure of 3.7 inches.
That figure should not be confused with the 1.9-inch clearance shown on some PencilVac Fluffy material. The two versions use different cleaner heads and Dyson’s pages present different configuration-specific measurements.
A magnetic storage and charging dock supports grab-and-go cleaning. The package includes the cleaner, Fluffycones head, Rotating Combi Crevice tool, charging cable and a single storage/charging dock, although retailer bundles can vary by market and promotion.
It is not a carpet vacuum
This is the most important limitation. Dyson’s own FAQ says the PencilVac is engineered for hard floors and does not clean carpets.

That means it is a poor choice as the only vacuum in a home with wall-to-wall carpet, thick rugs or a need for deep carpet agitation. Its slim body and soft floorhead are designed around convenience on hard surfaces, not broad all-floor coverage.
Runtime, battery and dust capacity
Dyson claims up to 30 minutes in Eco mode. This should not be read as 30 minutes of maximum-power cleaning. Repeated passes, heavier debris and Powerful mode can shorten practical runtime, and no independent runtime figure should be assumed from the headline specification.

The battery detaches with a click and does not require screws. Dyson says additional click-in batteries are available, which can extend cleaning sessions, but the battery’s current price should be checked separately before purchase.
The 0.02-gallon bin is the other major capacity trade-off. It may be adequate for small daily cleanups, but homes with shedding pets, larger floor areas or substantial visible debris should expect frequent emptying.

Emptying and maintenance
The PencilVac uses a syringe-action emptying system intended to push compressed dust deeper into the bin and reduce dust clouds during disposal. The small capacity means emptying is likely to be part of the normal routine rather than an occasional task.
The Fluffycones head can be opened so its four rollers can be removed and rinsed. Reinstall them only after they are completely dry. The filter, mesh, bin and floorhead also require periodic cleaning.
Dyson’s parts and support pages list replacement components, including bin and filter-tray mesh parts. Genuine replacement parts are stated to have a one-year warranty.

The Fluffycones version is the more distinctive choice, but the standard Fluffy may be worth considering if it is substantially cheaper during a promotion and hair management is not the main concern.

Verdict
The Dyson PencilVac Fluffycones is best understood as a premium hard-floor specialist. Its extremely slim profile, maneuverable head, removable battery and conical rollers solve real convenience problems, particularly in small homes and for frequent quick cleanups.
But the same compact design brings clear sacrifices: a tiny dust bin, long charging time, limited runtime at higher power and no carpet capability. Buy it for its specialized convenience—not because its narrow body makes it a full replacement for a conventional all-floor cordless vacuum.
