Oracle’s proposed River North pedestrian bridge is scheduled to begin construction in August 2026, according to a May 13 report by The Tennessean. A follow-up report the next day described the window as late summer, with a Metro councilmember citing July or August. No reviewed source gives a confirmed calendar day or an official notice that work has started. The bridge is planned to take about two years, putting the current completion forecast in 2028.
When does the Nashville pedestrian bridge construction start?
The announced target is August 2026, but it is a planned start window rather than a confirmed groundbreaking date. The Tennessean’s May 13, 2026 report said a permit application listed August and approximately two years of construction. WKRN’s May 14 report used “late summer” language and quoted Metro Councilmember Jacob Kupin as expecting July or August.

Those reports do not establish a specific day. They also do not prove that construction began during the window. The latest reviewed project information still called the crossing “proposed,” so readers should treat August as the announced target, not a completed milestone.
Which Nashville bridge is this announcement about?
This is Oracle’s proposed River North crossing over the Cumberland River. It is a new bridge linking Germantown on the west bank with Nashville’s East Bank/River North district on the east bank.

What is the project’s current timeline?
The bridge’s schedule has developed through several public milestones. The dates below distinguish a development commitment from a construction notice and a forecast.
| Date | What was reported |
|---|---|
| 2021 | Oracle’s East Bank development agreement included a commitment covering public infrastructure, including a Cumberland River pedestrian bridge. |
| May 13, 2026 | The Tennessean reported an August 2026 construction target and about two years of work. |
| May 14, 2026 | WKRN reported a late-summer window; Councilmember Jacob Kupin cited July or August. |
| September 8, 2026 | Groundbreak still listed the bridge as proposed and forecast completion in 2028. |
The 2028 figure is the dependable part of the latest completion information. Groundbreak’s page displays conflicting end-day details in different parts of the listing, so no exact completion date should be treated as settled.

Is the Germantown-to-East-Bank bridge already under construction?
The reviewed sources do not provide an official start announcement, construction-progress report or confirmed groundbreaking day. Because the later project listing continued to describe the bridge as proposed, the safest status is: construction was announced for a late-summer 2026 start, but a completed start cannot be independently confirmed from these reports.
Permit timing, final approvals, contractor mobilization and river or site conditions can all move a target. Until Metro Nashville, Oracle or the project team publishes a dated notice, August remains a schedule expectation.
How is Oracle paying for the bridge?
The bridge is part of Oracle’s River North campus and the wider East Bank redevelopment. Nashville’s 2026 official bond statement says the 2021 Oracle development agreement covers up to $175 million in Oracle-funded public infrastructure, including a new pedestrian bridge over the Cumberland River.

How does this differ from Nashville’s downtown pedestrian-bridge upgrades?
The Oracle project is a new cross-river connection between Germantown and River North. It should not be confused with separate upgrades to Nashville’s existing downtown pedestrian bridge.
| Feature | Oracle River North bridge | Downtown bridge upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Project type | New Cumberland River crossing | Upgrade/retrofit of an existing downtown bridge |
| Endpoints | Taylor Street to Cowan Street/River North Boulevard | Existing downtown connections |
| Schedule reported | August or late summer 2026 target; 2028 completion forecast | Could begin as early as fall 2026, with designs still under review |
| Responsible party named in coverage | Oracle development, with Foster + Partners named as designer | Tennessee Titans handling design and construction |
WSMV’s report on the downtown work is available here. Its potential fall 2026 start does not change the Oracle bridge’s separate schedule.

When is the Oracle pedestrian bridge expected to open?
The current public forecast is 2028, based on Groundbreak’s September 2026 project listing and the earlier estimate of about two years of construction. An opening month or day has not been published in the reviewed material. The forecast should therefore be read as a completion year, subject to the start date and normal project changes.
What should residents watch for next?

- Permit records showing whether the August target has shifted.
- A named contractor and construction-phase traffic, trail or riverfront access plans.
- Updated plans confirming how Taylor Street, Cowan Street, River North Boulevard and the Cumberland River Greenway will connect.
- A revised completion schedule if construction does not begin within the announced late-summer window.
