Narwal Flow review: flagship robot vacuum/mop is the best we’ve tried—if you have the right home

The Narwal Flow may be one of the best robot mops for hard-floor homes, but its navigation and vacuuming limitations prevent an unqualified all-around recommendation.

Verdict: The Narwal Flow is an exceptional mop-first robot for homes with mostly hard floors. Its continuously cleaned rolling-track mop, edge coverage and automated washing and drying can reduce daily floor maintenance dramatically. But it is not a safe choice for every home: independent testing found navigation, coverage, carpet, pet-hair and app limitations. Buy it for its mopping performance—not simply for its advertised 22,000 Pa suction.

The Flow can be one of the best robot mops available for predominantly hard-floor homes, especially at a substantial discount. It is a much riskier flagship purchase if you need dependable whole-home vacuuming, heavy carpet cleaning, seamless multi-floor operation or polished software.

What is the Narwal Flow?

The Narwal Flow is a premium robot vacuum and mop launched in August 2025. Unlike most robot mops, which drag or rotate pads across the floor, it uses a continuous FlowWash rolling-track mop. The track stays in contact with the floor while the dock continually washes it, helping the robot use a clean section of mop during a run.

Its dock can empty the dustbin, wash and dry the mop, dispense detergent and manage clean and dirty water. Narwal also offers a plumbed-in auto-refill and drainage dock. The robot combines vacuuming, mopping, app control, voice control through Narwal’s “Hey Nawa” assistant, dirt detection and camera- and sensor-assisted obstacle avoidance.

Narwal describes the original Flow as a flagship-class product, but the newer Flow 2 now occupies part of that newer-generation lineup. This review is about the original Narwal Flow, not the Flow 2.

Narwal Flow at a glance

Feature What is reported
Mop design Continuously cleaned rolling-track FlowWash mop
Advertised suction Up to 22,000 Pa; this is a specification, not a pickup test result
Mop pressure Approximately 12 N, as reported by New Atlas
Mop lift Approximately 12 mm, according to Vacuum Wars
Dock automation Dust emptying, mop washing, mop drying, detergent dispensing and water management
Manual-water dock Approximately 16.6 × 15.8 × 18.1 inches
Plumbed dock Approximately 16.1 × 17 × 11 inches; requires water and waste-line access
Best suited to Mostly hard-floor homes prioritizing wet cleaning
Main concern Reported navigation, coverage, carpet, pet-hair and app limitations

Price has varied sharply. The Narwal US collection displayed $1,499.99 for the original Flow when crawled recently, while Vacuum Wars showed a $479.99 price against $799.99 on July 29, 2026. These are time-sensitive signals, not a universal current price. Check the official Narwal listing for the price, availability and exact dock variant before buying.

The rolling-track mop is the Flow’s reason to exist

The Flow’s strongest feature is its mopping. The rolling track remains pressed against the floor and is cleaned as it works, rather than repeatedly spreading the same dirty pad around a room. Warm water is used during mop cleaning; Vacuum Wars reported a temperature of about 113°F. The dock then washes and dries the mop after cleaning.

Hands-on coverage was unusually positive. TechRadar described the mopping as among the best it had tested, while Android Authority rated its floor-cleaning performance close to the top of the category. The combination of contact pressure, continuous mop cleaning and EdgeReach technology makes the Flow particularly attractive for tile, sealed hardwood, laminate and similar hard surfaces.

EdgeReach is intended to push the cleaning action toward walls and corners, where conventional robot mops often leave a visible strip. That does not make the Flow perfect at every corner: independent testing from RTINGS found weak edge and corner pickup on the vacuuming side.

The mop reportedly lifts about 12 mm for carpet. That may be enough for many low-pile surfaces, but carpet compatibility depends on pile height, thresholds, settings and the approach angle. New Atlas also reported that the robot can handle steps up to approximately 1.6 inches (4 cm); treat that as a reported capability rather than a guarantee for every threshold.

What the excellent mopping does not mean

  • Strong stain removal does not guarantee complete dry-debris pickup.
  • “Self-cleaning” does not mean maintenance-free. The dock, water system and sensors still need attention.
  • The rolling mop can consume water quickly, particularly with frequent or heavily soiled cleaning.
  • Do not use the robot to deal with a large liquid spill unless the manufacturer explicitly supports that use.

Vacuuming: promising hardware, inconsistent evidence

Narwal and Vacuum Wars advertise up to 22,000 Pa suction. The Flow also uses a floating anti-tangle brush and anti-tangle side brushes. Those features sound impressive, but suction numbers alone cannot establish better carpet pickup or pet-hair removal.

Vacuum Wars reported a strong overall impression after several weeks. RTINGS, however, found poor hard-floor pickup in its test environment because navigation problems caused missed sections and inefficient routes. It also reported disappointing pet-hair performance and weak edge and corner pickup, concluding that the Flow is a poor fit for homes combining hard floors and carpets.

  • DEVOURS DIRT WITH 70X MORE POWER-LIFTING SUCTION. Find, reach and eliminate messes with the combined power of 70X more suction*, multi-surface brush, 20% better edge and corner cleaning with an edge-sweeping brush, to devour dirt and dust bunnies, plus a microfiber mop pad to leave floors shiny.

  • RUGS STAY DRY WHILE MOPPING. Unlike other cleaning robots, the Roomba 105 Combo Robot automatically detects and avoids carpets while mopping so your rugs stay dry – no complex programming required.
  • FULLY CUSTOM CLEANING. Choose from settings including vac only, mop only, or combo vac-mop. Schedule and target rooms based on your daily routine and adjust the number of cleaning passes, levels of suction power, and amount of mopping solution pumped onto the microfiber mopping pad.

These results are not necessarily contradictory. A robot can clean a hard-floor section effectively when it follows an efficient route, yet produce poor whole-home results if it misses rooms or repeats inefficient paths. Reviewers also weight performance differently: mop-focused testing naturally gives greater importance to stain removal, while RTINGS’ test bench emphasizes predictable coverage, pickup, carpet and pet hair.

For that reason, do not buy the Flow for the 22,000 Pa headline. Buy it only if your floors and priorities resemble the conditions in which its mopping advantage matters most.

Navigation, mapping and app limitations

RTINGS lists dual RGB cameras, laser distance sensing and rear-mounted LiDAR among the Flow’s mapping and obstacle-avoidance hardware. The robot also promotes AI-assisted dirt detection and obstacle avoidance. Accurate obstacle recognition, however, is not the same as reliable route planning.

RTINGS reported missed areas, inefficient paths and problems when the robot operated away from its dock. In its test setup, the robot could access its full map and settings only when starting from the dock; some settings were locked to defaults when cleaning secondary areas without the dock. It also identified multi-floor mapping limitations.

For ultimate hands-free convenience, use voice commands via Alexa or Google Home to start, stop, pause, resume cleaning, or send your robot back to the dock effortlessly

That matters in practical homes with narrow rooms, furniture clusters, thresholds, mixed flooring or more than one level. A large open-plan home may behave differently from a compact, cluttered layout, but buyers should not assume that LiDAR and cameras guarantee complete coverage.

Before relying on the Flow for unattended cleaning, confirm that your current app and firmware provide the room, zone, carpet, no-go-zone and multi-floor controls you need. Pay particular attention to whether settings remain available when starting a room or zone away from the dock. Smart-home platform compatibility should likewise be checked for the exact US model and current firmware rather than assumed.

Dock design and installation

The standard manual-water dock is substantial: approximately 16.6 × 15.8 × 18.1 inches, according to RTINGS. Measure not only the footprint but also the clearance in front, beside and above it. The robot needs a practical approach route, and the dock must not obstruct doors, cabinets or walkways.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The optional auto-refill and drainage version is reported at approximately 16.1 × 17 × 11 inches. It can reduce manual tank handling, but it is not a drop-in upgrade. Installation requires suitable clean-water and waste-line access, a permanent location and compatibility with the home’s plumbing layout. A smaller listed base can therefore be harder to install and less portable.

How much maintenance remains?

The dock automates the chores that make many robot mops inconvenient. It can empty dust into a disposable bag, wash and dry the mop, dispense detergent and manage clean and dirty water. The dust bag is marketed or reported as lasting up to 120 days—roughly four months—but actual life depends on household size, pets, debris and cleaning frequency.

You still need to:

  • Refill the clean-water tank and empty the dirty-water tank on the manual dock.
  • Replace dust bags and maintain filters.
  • Clean the dock’s wash area, scraper and trays.
  • Remove hair and debris from brushes, wheels and sensors despite anti-tangle features.
  • Check for odors, residue and dirty-water buildup.
  • Keep the floor beneath and around the dock clean.

New Atlas specifically noted that the base station itself can become dirty. The Flow reduces routine intervention; it does not eliminate it.

Who should buy the Narwal Flow?

It is a strong fit if you have:

  • A predominantly hard-floor home.
  • Frequent light-to-moderate wet-cleaning needs.
  • A high priority on stain removal, edge coverage and automated mop care.
  • Enough space for the dock and its operating clearances.
  • A single-level home, or a willingness to investigate multi-floor behavior carefully.
  • A substantial sale price that makes the software compromises easier to accept.

Compare carefully or avoid it if you have:

  • Mostly carpeted floors.
  • Heavy-shedding pets or demanding pet-hair pickup needs.
  • A requirement for consistently excellent corners, edges and whole-home vacuum coverage.
  • Multiple floors requiring seamless map switching.
  • A small apartment where the dock is intrusive.
  • Little tolerance for cleaning tanks, trays and the dock.
  • Flagship-level expectations at full price.

Alternatives in Narwal’s lineup

The Narwal Flow 2 is the newer-generation alternative. Consider it when its price is close to the original Flow’s, but do not assume it fixes every original weakness without current independent testing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Freo Z10 Turbo was displayed at $899.99 in the supplied pricing snapshot, and the Freo X10 Pro at $699.99. They may suit buyers who want a less expensive Narwal model, but their performance should not be treated as automatically better value. Neither is a substitute for the Flow’s rolling-track mop if that is the feature you specifically want. Prices and availability can change, so verify the model, dock and warranty before purchase.

Final verdict

The Narwal Flow’s central trade-off is simple: exceptional hard-floor mopping versus inconsistent whole-home automation. Positive hands-on reviews make a persuasive case for its rolling-track mop, warm-water washing, edge reach and automated dock care. RTINGS’ updated July 27, 2026 test-bench findings make it difficult to recommend as the best all-around robot vacuum without qualification.

Choose the Flow if mopping is your primary task, your home is mainly hard floor and you can buy it at a meaningful discount. Skip it or compare very carefully if carpet, pet hair, reliable room-to-room coverage, multi-floor mapping or software polish matters just as much as mopping.
