“Cook Book – Naparima (Old)” most likely refers to a cookbook associated with Naparima Girls’ High School in Trinidad and Tobago, but “Old” does not identify one specific edition. The key distinction is between a 1987 Diamond Jubilee recipe book and the expanded, revised second edition launched in 2002. Check the title page, publication details, or ISBN on the copy to tell them apart.
Which Naparima cookbook does “Old” mean?
The shorthand title is ambiguous. Catalog and school records point to two older books: a Diamond Jubilee recipe book dated 1987 and a later, expanded second edition with a full title and ISBNs. They are distinct bibliographic records, so a listing that says only “Naparima” or “Old” is not enough to confirm which one is being offered.
The Diamond Jubilee recipe book
Naparima Girls’ High School’s official history says the Diamond Jubilee cookbook was produced in 1987. Open Library catalogs a 234-page Diamond Jubilee recipe book from that year. The school’s separate cookbook page says its first edition launched in 1988. The available records do not explain whether the different dates refer to production and launch, so they should be treated as a discrepancy rather than reconciled as fact.
The revised 2002 edition
The expanded and rebranded second edition is titled The Multi-cultural Cuisine of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean: Naparima Girls’ High School Cookbook. The school says it launched on September 21, 2002, as part of its 90th anniversary. New York Public Library catalogs it as an updated and revised second edition published in San Fernando by Naparima Girls’ High School; its record gives 271 pages. View the NYPL catalog record. Google Books also records the 2002 edition at 271 pages: Google Books record.

How to identify a copy
Use the book’s own title and publication details, not a seller’s “old” label. For the 2002 edition, compare the ISBN and binding with the catalog record:
| Edition or format | Identification details |
|---|---|
| 1987 Diamond Jubilee recipe book | 234 pages; Open Library catalog date 1987. The cited record does not state an ISBN or binding. |
| 2002 second edition, hardcover | 271 pages; ISBN 9768173645 or 9789768173645, as listed by NYPL. |
| 2002 second edition, paperback | 271 pages; ISBN 9768173653 or 9789768173652, as listed by NYPL. |
ISBNs and pagination are useful checks, but compare them with the title page and edition statement when possible. Confirm details against the specific copy: catalog records identify editions, not the condition or completeness of an individual book.
What the revised cookbook contains
The school describes the revised book as a collection of classic and innovative recipes reflecting Trinidad and Tobago and Caribbean multicultural cuisine, with an international flavor. It says the recipes are accompanied by photographs, nutritional information, and culinary notes. NYPL indexes the book under cooking in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean, while WorldCat summarizes it as a guide to the varied cuisines of Trinidad and Tobago: WorldCat record.
According to the school, the original editorial committee—Polly Indar, Dorothy “Bunty” Ramesar, and Sylvia Bissessar—selected and tested recipes contributed by members of the Naparima community. Celia Teelucksingh served as sub-editor for the expanded edition. The school also says proceeds from the cookbook partly support school projects.

What to check before buying or borrowing
- Ask for a photograph of the title page and the publication or edition statement.
- For the revised second edition, match the ISBN to the binding: 9768173645 or 9789763645 for hardcover; 9768173653 or 9789768173652 for paperback, according to NYPL.
- For a copy described as the Diamond Jubilee book, check that its title and details correspond to the 1987 record; do not assume it is the 2002 revision.
- Confirm condition, completeness, price, shipping, and availability directly with the seller or lending library. Catalog records do not establish current stock or the state of a particular copy.
The school calls the first edition an “international bestseller,” but the available records provide no sales figures or independent confirmation of that description. It is best understood as the school’s characterization, not a verified measure of sales.
