The Western Australian Government announced an additional $4.5 million for the Munday Avenue Extension in Pinjarra in November 2024, taking its stated commitment to $7 million. The Shire of Murray is delivering the road, which is planned to connect Greenlands Road and Munday Avenue and give traffic bound for the industrial area an alternative to travelling through the town centre.
The latest located update, from the Shire on 25 June 2026, said limestone had been installed and works were continuing. It did not confirm the road was open or give a completion date.
What the additional $4.5 million funds
The November 2024 announcement said the State Government would provide a further $4.5 million through the upcoming Mid-Year Review. That brought the state’s stated commitment to $7 million, following an initial $2.5 million allocation. The announcement identified the funding for the Munday Avenue Extension; it did not provide a detailed breakdown of construction costs or individual work packages.
The Shire of Murray is responsible for delivering the project. Its project page lists a $7 million investment and says work was expected to commence in mid-2025. That timing is a project-page detail, not a substitute for the Shire’s later construction updates.

Where the extension is planned to go
The road is intended to link Greenlands Road with Munday Avenue, providing a more direct connection to Pinjarra’s growing industrial area. The Government’s announcement specifically described the route as serving traffic arriving from South Western Highway and Forrest Highway.
The project’s stated transport objective is to give heavy vehicles and other industrial-area traffic an alternative to travelling through Pinjarra town centre. This describes the intended benefit; the available updates do not report measured changes in traffic volumes, congestion or safety.

Why the project is intended to ease town-centre traffic
Project proponents say the current industrial-area access route sends heavy vehicles through the centre of Pinjarra. The Government announcement quoted Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke describing the existing route as inefficient. The Shire’s stated expectation is that the new connection will let heavy vehicles and other traffic avoid the town centre.
PerthNow’s 27 November 2024 report said hundreds of trucks pass through the town centre daily. That is a secondary report using an imprecise quantity, not a precise traffic count independently established here. The same report said 84.6 per cent of voters supported the deviation plan in a 2017 Shire referendum; this is a historical figure reported by PerthNow, rather than a result independently verified here.

Latest construction update: June 2026
In its 25 June 2026 update, the Shire of Murray said limestone had been installed and that this stage of the project was complete for the current financial year. The Shire also described works as continuing. The update is a construction milestone, not confirmation that the full road connection has been completed or opened.
The Shire did not provide a completion or opening date in that update. The sources cited here therefore establish continuing construction as of 25 June 2026, but not when motorists or heavy vehicles will be able to use the extension.
