The Mow Cycle was reported in 2010 as a one-off riding mower powered by its rider: a recumbent tricycle carrying a reel mower underneath. Bicycle builder Ted Wojcik and his son Cody created the prototype, but the report does not establish that it entered production or is available today.
What was the Mow Cycle?
The Mow Cycle combined a heavy-duty recumbent tricycle with a reel mower mounted beneath it. Instead of walking behind the cutting mechanism or towing it behind a bicycle, the rider sat on the tricycle and supplied the power by pedaling.
According to New Atlas’s March 12, 2010 report, a client prompted the project after using a reel mower towed behind an old mountain bike and asking for an upgrade. The report identifies New Hampshire bicycle builder Ted Wojcik and his son Cody, a mechanical engineer, as the creators.
How was the prototype configured?
The reported prototype used an internally geared five-speed rear hub and a coaster brake. New Atlas said the brake arrangement was chosen in part to keep grass clippings from clogging the mechanism. Wojcik said future versions might use a fixed-gear rear hub, which would allow backward pedaling; the report does not confirm that those versions were built.

The article also reported that the prototype had apparently been mowing lawns since the previous August. That is a description in the 2010 article, not a published performance test. It provides no measured figures for cutting output, speed, cost, emissions, or rider effort.
Did the Mow Cycle go into production?
At the time of the March 2010 report, only one Mow Cycle existed. The article said Wojcik and his son were trying to raise capital to begin production, and that the prototype had been displayed at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show in Richmond, Virginia, in February 2010. Those are historical status details; the source does not establish whether production later happened or whether the mower can be bought today.

Wojcik described the interest following the show as “an overwhelming amount of interest” and said it would be “almost impossible to ignore the potential.” That is his reported assessment, not a sales figure or evidence of a production run.

The Mow Cycle is best understood as a custom-built prototype, not a documented retail mower. Its cutting component was a reel mower, but the report does not identify a brand or model, explain compatibility with other tricycles, or provide plans for building one.

If you are looking for a comparable cutting approach rather than this particular machine, a manual reel mower is an adjacent option. It is a separate product category, not a substitute riding mower, and the Mow Cycle report does not provide a basis for comparing its efficiency, ease of use, or results with powered mowers.
