Physical installation really can take minutes, but complete setup still requires the Lorex Classic app, a Lorex account, QR-code pairing, and Wi-Fi configuration.
It is best for porches, garages, sheds, apartments, and other locations where avoiding drilling or running a separate power cable matters more than maximum lighting, the widest possible view, or professional-grade tamper resistance. It is not a direct replacement for a wired camera, floodlight camera, or dedicated pan-tilt system.

The Lorex 2K Lightbulb Security Camera combines a Wi-Fi camera and LED light in a bulb-style housing. Instead of mounting a separate camera and connecting a power adapter, you screw the unit into a standard E26/E27 socket. The socket supplies power for both the camera and the light.
#1 Best Overall
- VERIFY SCONCE COMPATIBILITY BEFORE YOU BUY: 1) Fits standard E26 light sockets (120V, 60Hz) only. DO NOT USE WITH DIMMER SWITCH. 2) Telescoping rod extends up to 1.2" . The Wyze Bulb Cam fits sconces depth
- MANUAL ADJUSTABLE PAN &TILT-Position camera by hand (360° pan, 90° tilt) to eliminate blind spots.Note: Fixed position once set; does NOT rotate remotely via app. Manually adjust camera whenever you need to change viewing angle
- 2K HD Security Camera with Color Night Vision: Sees more with a 160° wide view for enhanced protection. Clear 2K HD resolution with Color Night Vision & WDR—evens out light and dark spots for a balanced, detailed picture day and night
- Easy Bluetooth & 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Setup: Enjoy hassle-free Bluetooth pairing without scanning complex QR codes. Connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (Not 5G Compatible) for a fast, stable connection
- 24/7 Local Recording: Continuous recording to microSD card (up to 256GB sold separately) and minute-by-minute playback via “Wyze-Never Wonder"(THE OFFICIAL APP). OPTIONAL Cam Plus from $2.99/mo for 14-day history stored in the cloud
The camera records at 2560 × 1440 resolution, commonly described as 2K or 4MP. Lorex lists motion detection, person and vehicle detection, color and infrared night vision, two-way audio, a siren, app-controlled lighting, and a physical privacy mode. Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are supported, while Lorex says Apple HomeKit and Matter are not.
The single camera is identified as SL300-AA. The two-pack is identified in Lorex documentation as TSL300-F-2PK.
Installation is fast—but only the physical part
If the correct socket is already in place, fitting the camera is straightforward:

- Remove the existing bulb.
- Screw the SL300 into the E26/E27 socket.
- Install the Lorex app and sign in or create an account.
- Turn the switch back on and complete pairing in the app.
Lorex’s installation guide says to keep the camera powered during setup. The complete process is therefore more than “screw in and go”: you must enroll the camera, connect to its temporary hotspot, select your home network, and configure recording and alerts.
Before you buy: socket and placement checklist
- Confirm that the fixture uses an E26 or E27 socket.
- Make sure the socket remains powered continuously.
- Do not install the camera in an enclosed fixture.
- Check that the socket and fixture can support the unit securely.
- Confirm that usable 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi reaches the installation point.
- Check the camera’s viewing angle from that height and direction.
- Buy a compatible microSD card separately if local recording is required.
Lorex lists an input range of 110–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz and says the camera can be used indoors or outdoors with a suitable socket. Its product page lists an IP65 weather-resistance rating. That does not make every exposed socket appropriate: weather, heat, fixture design, physical security, local electrical requirements, and Wi-Fi coverage still matter. The listed operating range is -4°F to 122°F (-20°C to 50°C), with humidity up to 95% RH.
Real-world power limitation: the wall switch matters
The socket is both the product’s biggest installation advantage and its most important limitation. If someone turns off the wall switch, the SL300 loses power. Live viewing, recording, notifications, audio, and lighting control stop until power is restored.
That makes it a poor fit for a porch where people routinely switch off the light, a shared area where the switch is easy to reach, or any location requiring continuous surveillance while the light remains off. It is also worth checking whether a rental’s light socket is controlled by a wall switch, timer, motion sensor, or another circuit arrangement.
Camera specifications and coverage
| Specification | Lorex SL300 |
|---|---|
| Resolution | 2560 × 1440 pixels / 4MP |
| Frame rate | 15 fps at 4MP, 1080p, or 720p |
| Sensor | 1/2.8-inch CMOS |
| Lens | 2.8mm; listed as fixed in the specification sheet |
| Field of view | 92.2° horizontal, 50° vertical, 107.9° diagonal |
| Night vision | Up to 32 feet / 10 meters infrared range |
| Compression | H.264 and H.265 |
| HDR | Yes |
| Wi-Fi | 802.11 b/g/n, 2.4 GHz |
| Light | 400 lumens, 6500K, 7W |
| Maximum combined power | 10W |
| Weight | 0.75 lb / 0.34 kg |
2K resolution does not mean the camera sees everything around it. The listed diagonal view is 107.9°, which may be adequate for a doorway or small entry area but restrictive for a wide driveway or yard. Lorex’s own customer feedback includes a complaint that the view could be wider.
Lorex’s current product and support materials advertise pan-and-tilt functionality, while the SL300 specification sheet describes a fixed lens. Because the documentation is inconsistent, treat the movement claim as a Lorex-advertised feature and verify the exact hardware and current documentation before relying on it for coverage planning.
Lighting, night vision, and deterrence
The integrated LED produces up to 400 lumens of cool-white light at 6500K. In the app, you can adjust brightness, schedule the light by sunrise, sunset, or a specific time, and use Vacation Mode to simulate occupancy. Alexa and Google Assistant can also control supported functions using the device name assigned in the Lorex app.
Lorex advertises color night vision, but color depends on available ambient light and the camera’s LED. In complete darkness, infrared night vision may switch the image to black and white. Lorex lists infrared range up to 32 feet.

The light, siren, two-way talk, and quick-response audio can help deter activity, but 400 lumens is modest compared with a dedicated floodlight. Lorex’s listed 2K floodlight model uses approximately 1,500–2,400 lumens, making it more appropriate for illuminating a driveway or large yard.
Motion detection and smart alerts
The SL300 supports general motion detection as well as person and vehicle detection. These are different functions:
- Motion detection identifies movement.
- Person and vehicle detection attempts to classify what moved.
- Notifications depend on power, network connectivity, account settings, and app configuration.
- Recording depends on storage and recording settings.
Person and vehicle classification should not be treated as perfect. Lorex’s product feedback includes user reports of notification, recording, microSD, and recorder-integration problems. Those are customer-reported experiences, not controlled test results, but they are a reason to check alerts and recordings after installation rather than assuming every feature is configured correctly.
App setup and 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi requirements
The SL300 uses the Lorex Classic app, not Lorex Cirrus or the newer Lorex Connect app associated with the SL301. Lorex says app screens and labels can change with updates, but the current setup sequence is:
Recommended Free Tools
- Download the Lorex app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in or create a Lorex account.
- Turn on the light switch.
- Tap the + icon to add a device.
- Choose Scan QR Code.
- Scan the code on the packaging or camera.
- Join the temporary camera hotspot, normally named SL300-XXXX.
- Connect the camera to a compatible 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi network.
If the hotspot does not appear, stay near the camera and wait up to two minutes. If it remains absent, reset the device and restart pairing.
The SL300 does not use 5-GHz Wi-Fi. A router that combines 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz bands under one network name may complicate setup. Depending on the router, you may need to temporarily disable 5 GHz, create a separate 2.4-GHz network, or use an IoT setup feature. Lorex lists WPA2 and WPA3 support.
Checking signal strength
After setup, check Device Settings → Device Info → Wi-Fi Strength. If the signal is Fair or Poor, Lorex recommends moving the router closer, reducing obstructions, upgrading the router, or using a Wi-Fi extender. A camera may pair successfully yet later suffer delayed live views, missed notifications, or disconnections if the signal is marginal.
Troubleshooting setup and recording
Hotspot not visible
- Confirm the light switch is on.
- Move the phone close to the camera.
- Wait up to two minutes for a network beginning with SL300-XXXX.
- Reset the camera and restart pairing if the hotspot still does not appear.
Reset procedure
- Confirm that the camera has power.
- Tilt the lens upward to expose the reset/microSD cover.
- Remove the cover.
- Press and hold the reset button until you hear the audio prompt.
- Replace the cover quickly.
- Wait for the status LED to flash green and for reset confirmation.
- If the LED becomes solid green, the reset was unsuccessful; repeat the procedure.
Follow Lorex’s current support instructions if the behavior differs.

- Check whether a microSD card is installed and recognized.
- Confirm that recording and motion settings are enabled.
- Determine whether you are looking for local or cloud recordings.
- Confirm that the camera has not lost power at the wall switch.
- Check that the camera is connected to the intended Lorex account.
Storage: microSD, cloud, and recorders
The SL300 supports a microSD card up to 256GB. The standard package contents do not list a memory card, so local recording requires separately purchased compatible storage. Without storage, you can still use live viewing and other available connected features, but you should not assume that a complete local recording archive exists.
Lorex Cloud is an optional cloud-storage route and may involve a subscription. Check the current Lorex Cloud plans for availability and pricing before purchasing.
Do not assume the camera will work like a wired Lorex recorder camera. Compatibility with a particular NVR or recorder is model-specific, and user reports describe inconsistent recording or detection behavior with some recorder setups. Verify the exact recorder and app compatibility through Lorex’s compatibility information before buying.
Rank #3

- Flexible Storage & 2-Way Audio – Choose cloud storage or local micro-SD card storage (up to 128GB); built-in two-way audio lets you communicate with visitors or deter intruders remotely.
Privacy and smart-home compatibility
Privacy Mode physically tilts the camera upward so the lens is covered. Lorex says video recording stops while Privacy Mode is active. This is more meaningful than simply disabling notifications or cloud uploads because the lens is physically blocked.
Privacy Mode does not necessarily power down the device or turn off the light. Use it when you want to prevent video capture without removing the camera from the network.
Alexa and Google Assistant are supported. Apple HomeKit and Matter are not supported according to Lorex’s product information. For voice commands, check or change the camera name under Device Settings → Device Info → Device Name.

Alternatives worth considering
Lorex 2K floodlight camera
A listed Lorex 2K floodlight model was priced at $69.99 on sale, reduced from $109.99, when observed in the supplied pricing information. Its associated specification lists approximately 1,500–2,400 lumens. Choose it for driveways and larger yards where lighting and outdoor coverage matter more than a no-drill installation. It requires a more conventional installation.
Lorex 2K Pan-Tilt Outdoor Wi-Fi Camera
Lorex listed a 2K Pan-Tilt Outdoor Wi-Fi Security Camera at approximately $99.99 with a displayed 4.6/5 rating. It is a better fit when you want a dedicated camera body, more flexible placement, and less dependence on a light switch.
Dedicated indoor pan-tilt camera
A dedicated indoor camera is preferable for rooms where a bulb socket is not the natural surveillance position or where more flexible viewing is important. Lorex listed one 2K dual-lens indoor pan-tilt model at about $70.99 on sale, although the exact model and app ecosystem should be verified before purchase.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages
- Very fast physical installation.
- No separate camera power adapter or cable.
- 2K/4MP video.
- Local storage support up to 256GB.
- Integrated light, siren, two-way talk, and quick responses.
- Brightness controls, schedules, and Vacation Mode.
- Physical privacy mode covers the lens.
- Suitable for indoor or outdoor use when Lorex’s socket and environmental requirements are met.
Disadvantages
- 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi only.
- Surveillance stops when the wall switch is off.
- Cannot be used in an enclosed fixture.
- The integrated LED is not a normal replaceable bulb.
- No Apple HomeKit or Matter support.
- No microSD card listed in the standard package.
- 400 lumens is substantially less than a dedicated floodlight.
- The field of view may be too narrow for some driveways and yards.
- Cloud storage adds a subscription consideration.
- SL300 app and recorder compatibility should not be confused with newer Lorex products.
Who should buy the Lorex SL300?
Buy it if you have a suitable E26/E27 socket, can leave the switch on, receive reliable 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi at that location, and value quick installation over maximum coverage or lighting power. It is especially practical for a small porch, garage, shed, apartment entry, or secondary access point.
Choose another camera if the socket is enclosed, power is frequently interrupted, you need 5-GHz or Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, Apple HomeKit or Matter is essential, you want a replaceable bulb, or you need continuous tamper-resistant surveillance. A floodlight camera is better for illumination; a dedicated pan-tilt camera is better when placement and viewing flexibility matter most.
The SL300’s appeal is specific rather than universal: it turns an existing light socket into a camera location with minimal physical work. That convenience is compelling when the socket, switch, Wi-Fi network, and coverage angle all cooperate. If they do not, a conventional powered camera will usually be the more dependable construction and security choice.
