That date has passed. Some owners reported that individual systems continued working afterward, but those reports are anecdotal and do not establish a dependable workaround or ongoing support.
What happened to Logitech POP?
Logitech POP was a smart-home control system built around a wireless button, a connected hub, and Logitech’s POP app. Owners could assign different actions to a single press, double press, or long press, such as controlling Philips Hue lights, Sonos speakers, Lutron devices, and other supported integrations.

Logitech introduced the original POP Home Switch in 2016. Its launch Starter Pack had a suggested retail price of $99.99, while additional buttons sold for $39.99. Logitech announced a POP Smart Button generation with Apple HomeKit support in 2017.

The important distinction is that the hardware’s useful operation depended on the POP software and supported ecosystem. Logitech later told customers that the buttons and connected hub would no longer be supported and would “lose all functionality” beginning October 15, 2025.

Logitech’s 2016 launch announcement and its 2017 HomeKit announcement describe the product’s original positioning and features.
Timeline
- 2016: Logitech launches POP Home Switch.
- 2017: Logitech announces a POP Smart Button with Apple HomeKit support.
- September 29, 2025: Logitech reportedly sent customers an end-of-life notice.
- October 15, 2025: The announced support cutoff passed.
- March 31, 2026: The reported U.S. expiration date for Logitech’s replacement coupon passed.
The notice reportedly gave customers roughly two weeks before the cutoff. Logitech offered affected customers a 15% coupon for selected products, but it was not a refund, and the reported U.S. offer is no longer current.
Ars Technica reproduced the reported notice and coupon terms.
Did Logitech technically “brick” the buttons?
“Brick” is reasonable shorthand for the consumer outcome, but the technical mechanism is not established. Logitech said the POP buttons and hub would lose all functionality. The available evidence does not show that Logitech remotely overwrote firmware or permanently disabled each button at the hardware level.

Some owners posted that their POP systems still responded after October 15. Those reports conflict with Logitech’s stated shutdown, but they are individual accounts rather than proof of a supported service. A button that still works today could stop responding after an app, account, server, or network change.
Logitech’s current POP Smart Button support page and POP Home Switch support page identify the products but list no current downloads, FAQs, or documented recovery path.
What existing owners should do
- Identify the product. POP smart-home buttons are not the same as Logitech POP Keys or POP Mouse products.
- Test every press type. Check single, double, and long presses, and record which integrations still respond.
- Do not factory-reset a marginally working unit. Resetting it may erase its configuration without leaving a supported way to set it up again.
- Save evidence. Keep purchase records, Logitech emails, serial numbers, screenshots, and app error messages.
- Contact Logitech support. Ask about any case-specific remedy, but do not assume the reported 15% coupon remains valid; its reported U.S. expiration date was March 31, 2026.
- Recycle failed hardware responsibly. Buttons and hubs are electronic waste. Disposal rules vary, so use your local or state e-waste authority rather than ordinary household trash.
Can Home Assistant or a replacement hub revive POP?
There is no verified official local-only mode, public API, firmware unlock, or supported migration path in the available documentation. Replacing the hub, blocking Logitech servers, reinstalling an older app, pairing a button directly to Wi-Fi, or connecting it to Home Assistant should not be presented as a reliable solution.
Home Assistant can be a strong replacement architecture, but it does not automatically make an incompatible Logitech POP button usable. The practical approach is to choose new hardware supported by Home Assistant, along with the required radio coordinator or hub, and recreate the automations.

Should you buy Logitech POP secondhand?
For almost every buyer in 2026, no. A used kit may be interesting as a collectible or an experiment, but Logitech support has ended, the announced cutoff has passed, and a seller cannot guarantee long-term service. A marketplace listing that says “working” may only reflect a temporary local test.
Do not confuse a working demonstration with dependable operation. Buying used POP hardware also does not restore the expired coupon or create a refund entitlement.
Replacement options
Aqara Wireless Mini Switch
The Aqara Wireless Mini Switch is a comparable physical smart-home button. It supports three actions, requires an Aqara hub, and can work with Apple Home through a compatible Aqara hub. Aqara says associated automations can continue working when Wi-Fi is unstable or disconnected, provided the hub remains powered.
It is not a drop-in POP replacement: you must adopt Aqara hardware, confirm compatibility with your specific hub and platform, and recreate your automations. Aqara’s European product explorer listed a price of £17.99 when crawled, but that is not a verified current U.S. price.

Home Assistant-compatible hardware
For readers most concerned about another vendor-controlled shutdown, a Home Assistant-based system offers more control over automations and can combine devices from multiple brands. Select a supported button and protocol—such as Zigbee or Thread—then confirm the required coordinator, hub, and platform integrations.
The trade-off is complexity. Home Assistant requires more setup and maintenance than a proprietary button system, and local operation depends on choosing compatible hardware and integrations. Visit Home Assistant’s official site for the platform documentation.
How to choose a replacement
Before buying, check:
- Whether normal button presses work without the vendor’s cloud service.
- Whether a proprietary hub is required and what it costs.
- Protocol support: Zigbee, Thread, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Matter, or a vendor-specific system.
- Compatibility with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Home Assistant, or SmartThings.
- Support for single, double, and long presses.
- Battery type, expected life, mounting method, and accessibility.
- Whether the vendor publishes local-control documentation and a clear end-of-life policy.
The broader lesson
POP illustrates the risk of cloud-dependent hardware: a physical device can remain intact while its practical value disappears when the service behind it is discontinued. For future smart-home purchases, local operation, open protocols, broad ecosystem support, and transparent sunset policies can reduce—but not eliminate—the risk of turning working hardware into e-waste.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Logitech POP Keys or POP Mouse affected by this shutdown?
No. This shutdown concerns the POP smart-home buttons and connected hub, not Logitech’s POP-branded keyboard and mouse products.
Is Logitech’s 15% coupon still available?
The reported U.S. coupon expiration date was March 31, 2026, so owners should not assume it remains redeemable.
Should I reset a POP button that still works?
No. A factory reset could remove its configuration without providing a supported way to set it up again.
