Limassol Arts Centre currently refers to two separate municipal developments. The visitor venue operating today is the Limassol Municipal Arts Centre – Apothikes Papadaki, a 2017 conversion of listed warehouses in the historic centre. A much larger Limassol Arts Centre is being planned on the Epaminondas site near the Garyllis River, but it is still in an international architectural competition and procurement process. It is not an open venue yet.
What is the Limassol Arts Centre in Cyprus?
The name is used for both an established arts venue and a future cultural-infrastructure project. Keeping them separate is essential when planning a visit or following the city’s construction plans.

The existing venue, officially called the Limassol Municipal Arts Centre – Apothikes Papadaki, opened on 17 December 2017. The new Limassol Arts Centre is the subject of Tender 77/26, an international design competition launched by Limassol Municipality in September 2026. The planned building has not opened, and no final contract has been awarded.
Where is the operating Apothikes Papadaki centre?
Apothikes Papadaki occupies the historic Papadakis Warehouses on Stathi (also rendered Stathis) Papadaki Street, off Ayiou Andreou Street, in central Limassol. The Cyprus government’s opening release gives the address as Stathis Papadakis Street, off Ayiou Andreou Street.

The complex was donated by the Stathis Papadakis family. It consists of two brick warehouses with tiled roofs and a courtyard, and Limassol Municipality describes it as probably the oldest group of warehouses preserved in the city. The buildings were declared a listed building in 1995. Their rehabilitation used an eco-design approach rather than replacing the historic fabric with a new structure.
President Nicos Anastasiadis inaugurated the centre at its 17 December 2017 opening. The municipal project was intended to give Limassol a base for contemporary artistic creation, especially visual and performing arts, while also supporting research, experimentation, collaboration and artist-residency programmes involving local and international participants.

What has been exhibited at Apothikes Papadaki?
The inaugural exhibition was soft stone documents, which opened on 17 December 2017. Jan Verwoert, identified in the 2017 government release as the exhibition’s writer, art critic and academic curator, described the presentation this way: “Reassembled around the eloquent ceramic art of Valentinos Charalambous, the works of the artists in soft stone documents together intone the song of matter, memory and desire.”
Municipal listings show that the programme has continued beyond the opening exhibition:

What should visitors check before going to Apothikes Papadaki?
The official pages reviewed for the centre do not publish current opening hours, admission prices, accessibility logistics or a ticketing method. Contact Limassol Municipality for confirmation before setting out. The municipal contact page lists Limassol Town Hall at 23 Arch. Kyprianos, 3036 Limassol, with telephone numbers 77 77 77 88 and 25 884300, and the email address [email protected].
For construction or architecture professionals, the key distinction is procedural: Tender 77/26 concerns the future Epaminondas facility, while visits and current exhibitions relate to the already operating Papadaki Warehouses. Treat announcements about the competition as design and procurement news until the municipality publishes an award, construction timetable and public opening information.
