LG is adding native Google Cast—formerly called Chromecast built-in—and Google Home features to supported newer televisions, with some older models receiving related functionality through webOS updates. This does not apply to every LG TV, however. Eligibility depends on the exact model, region, firmware version, language and feature rollout.
For an eligible television, built-in Google Cast can remove the need for a separate Chromecast receiver when you want to send video or music from supported mobile apps. Google Home integration goes further by adding smart-home organization and selected control features, but it does not turn LG’s webOS into Google TV or guarantee control of every TV function.

What LG is actually adding
Several related technologies are involved, and they are not interchangeable:
- Google Cast: Google’s current name for the casting platform that lets compatible apps send content to a television.
- Chromecast built-in: The older consumer label for a display with an integrated Google Cast receiver.
- Google Home integration: Linking the TV with the Google Home ecosystem so it can be identified, assigned to a room and used with supported smart-home controls.
- Google Home hub: On selected models, the TV can provide a Google Home interface or hub function for compatible devices.
LG continues to use webOS. Google Cast is an added interoperability layer, not a replacement for LG’s operating system and not a conversion of the TV into a Google TV device.

LG’s 2024 smart-TV announcements describe support for Apple AirPlay, Google Chromecast built-in and compatible smart-home integration. Google’s setup documentation specifically directs supported LG owners to Home Hub → Google Cast. Google also lists 2024 LG televisions with a Google Home option in Home Hub as examples of TVs that may act as Google Home hubs. LG’s 2024 announcement, Google’s Cast setup guide and Google’s Home hub guide all qualify availability by device and setup.
Which LG TVs are eligible?
The safest answer is not “all 2024 LG TVs.” LG has confirmed support across its newer smart-TV ranges, but regional model numbers and software rollouts differ. The exact model number and installed firmware matter more than the year you bought the television.
Newer consumer TVs
LG’s U.S. 2024 OLED announcement says its newest 2024 smart TVs support Google Chromecast built-in. LG has also described Google Home integration and Google Cast support in later product announcements, including its 2025 QNED range.

A television sold in the United States may have a different suffix, firmware branch or feature schedule from a similarly named model sold in India, the UAE or another market.
Some older models
LG’s webOS Re:New program promises up to five years of webOS upgrades for selected 2022 OLED models, the OLED Flex and selected 2022 QNED Mini LED 8K models. An upgrade may add Google Cast or related Home functions to some televisions, but the Re:New promise does not guarantee that every future Google feature will reach every model in the program.
LG regional support pages for models including parts of the OLED C3 and QNED families show update notes referring to Chromecast, Google Cast, Google Home or Home Hub availability. Those pages also warn that software details can vary by model and country. Do not use an international support page as definitive proof for a U.S. television, or vice versa.

Consumer TVs and hotel TVs are different
LG has separately rolled out Google Cast for hospitality televisions. LG said hotel TVs running webOS 23 or later could offer Google Cast beginning January 10, 2025, and later described a firmware path for selected U.S. Pro:Centric products, including the US670H, US770H, UR770H and STB-6500 smartbox.

Those announcements are useful evidence that LG supports Google Cast on certain webOS-based displays, but they do not establish eligibility for ordinary consumer TVs.
How to check whether your LG TV supports Google Cast
- On the television, open Settings → Support → TV Information and record the complete model number. The product label may also show it.
- Open the exact model’s support page on the relevant regional LG website.
- Install every available firmware or webOS update.
- Connect the TV to the internet, restart it and open Home Hub.
- Look for Google Cast, Chromecast built-in or Google Home.
- If the menu is missing, check the TV’s country or region setting and whether the feature is available in your language and market.
AirPlay, LG ThinQ and screen sharing do not prove that Google Cast is installed. The decisive test is the relevant Home Hub option after current firmware is installed, supported by the exact model’s regional LG documentation.
How to enable Google Cast on an eligible LG TV
Google’s LG-specific setup path is:
- Put the LG TV and your Android or iOS phone or tablet on the same secure Wi-Fi network.
- On the TV, open Home Hub and select Google Cast.
- Accept Google’s terms on the TV if prompted.
- Open a Cast-compatible streaming app on the phone or tablet.
- Tap the Cast icon.
- Select the LG TV from the device list and begin playback.
You may need a service subscription to play particular content. Built-in Cast does not bypass logins, geographic restrictions, digital-rights management or a streaming service’s payment requirements.
Casting is also different from full screen mirroring. In a supported app, the phone normally tells the TV what to play and acts as a remote control; it does not continuously transmit every pixel on the phone’s screen. Whether an app supports native casting, screen mirroring or neither depends on the app and its licensing arrangements.
How to connect an eligible LG TV to Google Home
- Connect the TV and mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network.
- On the TV, open Home Hub → Google Home → Connect to Google Home. Labels can differ by model and software version.
- Sign in with a Google account, using the QR code shown on the TV if requested.
- Review the Google privacy policy and terms.
- Grant the permissions requested by Google Home and LG.
- Assign the TV to the correct Google Home household and room.
- If necessary, open the Google Home app and choose Add → Link app or service to complete the account connection.
Google says some televisions require manual opt-in and certain hub functions may require a higher-power setting such as Always Ready. Its setup instructions also identify high-energy mode as a requirement for the relevant hub setup flow. The available settings and names vary by television and region.

What Google Home can—and cannot—control
Potential capabilities include finding the TV in the Google Home app, assigning it to a room, starting or controlling supported media and controlling compatible smart-home devices from the TV or Google Home.
Voice control through a Google Assistant-enabled speaker or display may also support selected commands. The exact command set depends on the TV model, firmware, region, language, app, account configuration and power state. LG ThinQ may still be required for TV-specific functions.

Google Cast compatibility alone does not promise that Google Assistant can reliably turn the TV on or off, change inputs, launch every app or navigate deep webOS menus. Power control can depend on standby settings, Always Ready, HDMI-CEC, network behavior, account permissions and regional command support. Google’s TV platform overview is a useful reference, but the individual LG model remains the authority.
Troubleshooting missing menus and failed discovery
The Google Cast option is missing
Common causes include an unsupported model, outdated firmware, a regional rollout difference, an offline TV, an incompatible country or language setting, or confusion between Google Cast and AirPlay.
- Update the TV’s firmware.
- Restart the television and router.
- Recheck Home Hub.
- Confirm the exact model on the correct regional LG support site.
- Test with a known Cast-compatible app.
- If the feature is not supported, use an external Google TV Streamer or another compatible HDMI device.
The TV is online but does not appear in the Cast picker
Confirm that the phone and TV use the same Wi-Fi network and are not separated by a guest network, VPN or router client-isolation setting. Update the app, complete the TV’s Google Cast activation and make sure the TV is powered on or in a compatible standby state. Google notes that discovery and performance depend on the device and network conditions.
Casting works in one app but not another
This is usually normal. Google Cast requires app-level support. One service may offer native casting, another may support only screen mirroring, and another may block casting for particular content because of licensing restrictions.

Google Assistant cannot turn the TV on or off
That does not necessarily indicate a defective Cast receiver. Check LG ThinQ linkage, standby or Always Ready settings, HDMI-CEC, network connectivity and Google account permissions. The command may simply not be supported for that model, region or power state.
Google Home shows duplicate or already-linked devices
A TV may have been added through LG ThinQ and Google Home separately, or a firmware update may have created a second Cast target. Remove stale duplicates, verify the correct household and room, unlink and relink LG’s service if necessary, then reboot the TV before pairing again.
Does built-in Google Cast replace a Google TV Streamer?
For supported casting apps on an eligible LG TV, usually yes. Native Google Cast can eliminate the need for a separate Chromecast receiver, saving an HDMI port, power connection, cable and remote.
An external Google TV Streamer can still be worthwhile if you want:
- the Google TV interface and app platform instead of webOS;
- a dedicated Google remote;
- a consistent Google-first experience across several televisions;
- a portable device that can move between displays;
- a solution for an unsupported or inconsistently updated LG model;
- features unavailable in LG’s native implementation.

Bottom line
LG is bringing Google Cast and Google Home functionality to supported newer TVs and selected older models, but this is a model-specific, firmware-dependent rollout—not a universal upgrade for every LG television. Check the exact model on the correct regional LG support site, update webOS, then look in Home Hub for Google Cast or Google Home. If the feature is absent, or if you specifically want Google TV’s interface and remote, an external Google TV Streamer remains the more predictable option.
