Yes, the LG A2 OLED can still look stunning—but it is not automatically the perfect upgrade in 2026. LG lists the A2 as discontinued, and its 60Hz panel, lack of VRR, and HDMI 2.0 bandwidth make it a poor choice for serious console or PC gaming. For movies, streaming, and ordinary TV viewing, however, it remains a compelling buy when discounted heavily, sold with a reliable return policy, and backed by a meaningful warranty.
The key question is not whether the A2 has a good picture. It does. The question is whether its price is low enough to justify buying discontinued technology instead of a current LG B6E or C6 OLED.

What is the LG A2 OLED?
The LG A2 is an entry-level 4K OLED television from LG’s 2022 model generation. It uses self-lit OLED pixels, LG’s α7 Gen5 AI Processor 4K, webOS 22, and a Magic Remote. Supported formats include Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, and HLG, while Dolby Atmos and Filmmaker Mode are also included.
U.S. A2 models were sold in 48-, 55-, 65-, and 77-inch sizes. Some regional listings identify a 42-inch version, so verify the exact model number and market before buying. LG’s U.S. A2 product page now labels the 55-inch model “DISCONTINUED.”

Why the A2 picture can still impress
OLED’s main advantage has not aged away. Each pixel produces its own light and can switch off independently. That allows the A2 to produce very deep blacks without the halos or blooming often visible around bright objects on backlit LCD televisions.
The result is strong contrast in films, shows, and dark streaming scenes. Dolby Vision support can improve compatible content, while Filmmaker Mode is useful for viewers who want movies presented closer to their intended cinematic appearance. OLED also offers wide viewing angles and an exceptionally thin panel, making the A2 attractive for a living room, bedroom, or other space where several people watch from different positions.
That is a picture-quality judgment based on the A2’s OLED panel and feature set—not a claim that it is technically superior to newer OLED generations. Independent testing likewise finds strong image quality but highlights the television’s gaming limitations. See the RTINGS LG A2 review for those test findings.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallThe four reasons not to buy an A2 blindly
- It is a 60Hz television. The A2’s native refresh rate is 60Hz, according to LG’s regional specifications.
- It lacks VRR. Variable refresh rate helps reduce tearing and uneven motion during gaming. Independent testing reports that the A2 does not support VRR.
- Its HDMI bandwidth is limited. The A2 uses HDMI 2.0-class bandwidth, so it cannot deliver 4K gaming at 120Hz.
- Discontinued stock carries extra risk. Remaining units may be open-box, refurbished, display models, old inventory, or incorrectly listed regional variants. Warranty and return protection can vary substantially.
Is the LG A2 good for gaming?
It is acceptable for casual 4K/60 gaming, but it is the wrong choice for buyers who want modern gaming features.
A casual player using a Nintendo Switch, older console, or single-player games at 4K/60 may still enjoy the A2’s contrast and fast OLED response characteristics. But the television cannot take full advantage of the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. Those consoles can support 4K/120Hz gaming on compatible displays, while the A2 is limited to 60Hz and lacks VRR.
PC gamers should be even more cautious. If you want high-refresh-rate gaming, adaptive synchronization, or a TV that can serve as a gaming display for years, skip the A2 and choose a current 120Hz-or-faster OLED.
Is the A2 bright enough?
The A2 is best suited to a controlled or moderately lit room. It can look excellent with films and streaming content, but direct sunlight, strong windows, and reflections can reduce viewing comfort. Newer OLED evo models are positioned above conventional A- and B-series OLEDs for brightness, so the A2 should not be treated as a bright-room specialist.

If your television will face substantial daylight, compare a newer brighter OLED evo model or a modern Mini-LED television rather than assuming every OLED performs alike.
LG A2 vs. current LG OLEDs
The A2’s biggest problem is not that its picture is poor. It is that current models remove the limitations that made the A2 an entry-level compromise.
| Model | Key features | Observed U.S. price signal | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| LG A2 | 2022 model; α7 Gen5 processor; webOS 22; 60Hz; no VRR; HDMI 2.0-class bandwidth | LG page displays a legacy $999.99 55-inch figure; not proof of current stock | Movie and streaming viewers buying steeply discounted stock |
| LG B6E | 2026 model; α8 AI Processor Gen3; 120Hz; G-SYNC; AMD FreeSync Premium; OLED Care | $1,299.99 for 55 inches; $1,599.99 for 65 inches; $1,999.99 for 77 inches | Buyers wanting the most sensible current LG upgrade |
| LG C6 | 2026 model; α11 AI Processor Gen3; 165Hz; VRR; G-SYNC; AMD FreeSync Premium | $1,299.99 for 48 inches; $1,599.99 for 55 inches; $1,999.99 for 65 inches; $2,799.99 for 77 inches; $4,799.99 for 83 inches | PC gamers, enthusiasts, and buyers seeking the strongest current features |
The B6E is the most relevant alternative for a price-conscious shopper. Its 120Hz refresh rate and gaming support address the A2’s biggest weakness. The C6 costs more, but its 165Hz capability and higher-tier processor make it the better fit for demanding PC gaming and premium use.

What price makes the A2 worthwhile?
There is no universal fair price because the A2 is discontinued and its condition may range from sealed old stock to a heavily used display unit. Use the current B6E as the comparison point for the same screen size.
- Excellent deal: the A2 is substantially cheaper than a current B6E of the same size, with strong return and warranty protection.
- Acceptable deal: the discount is large enough to compensate for the older processor, 60Hz panel, missing VRR, and higher stock risk.
- Bad deal: the price is near LG’s legacy $999.99 55-inch listing or close to a current B6E.
- No-buy condition: the difference from a current 120Hz OLED is small enough that you would be sacrificing important features for little savings.
Do not treat the $999.99 figure on LG’s old product page as a live offer. Confirm the exact price, size, seller, condition, shipping cost, warranty, and return window.
Buying checklist for discontinued A2 stock
Before ordering, verify:
- The complete model number, including regional suffixes such as PUA or AUA.
- Whether the unit is new, open-box, refurbished, or a display model.
- Panel hours, if the seller can provide them.
- Whether the warranty covers panel defects, dead pixels, and image retention.
- The length and terms of the return window.
- Protection against shipping damage.
- That the Magic Remote, stand, power cable, and other required accessories are included.
- That the seller is reputable and clearly states where the television ships from.
“New” does not necessarily mean recently manufactured. A sealed television may have spent years in storage, while a display model may have accumulated static logos or uneven wear.
OLED ownership cautions
OLED image retention and burn-in should be treated as usage risks, not certainties. Long periods of static news tickers, channel logos, game HUDs, or computer interfaces can increase the chance of permanent uneven wear. Temporary image retention is different from permanent burn-in, and neither “burn-in is inevitable” nor “burn-in is impossible” is accurate.
If you watch varied content, the risk profile is different from using the television as an all-day desktop monitor. Buyers with repetitive viewing habits should consider a newer OLED with appropriate panel-care features or a high-brightness LCD alternative.
Software, sound, and remaining support
LG’s A2 support page continued to list support materials in 2026, including software version 04.60.85 dated June 16, 2026. That confirms recent support activity, but it does not guarantee a future update schedule or the same software lifespan as a current model.
The A2 supports Dolby Atmos, but its built-in speakers cannot match the impact of a dedicated soundbar or receiver. Add external audio only if you want a larger soundstage or stronger bass; it is an optional upgrade, not a reason by itself to reject the television.
Who should buy the LG A2?
- Movie-first buyer: Yes, if the price is deeply discounted and the room is not excessively bright.
- Streaming and ordinary TV viewer: Yes, provided the condition, warranty, and return policy are dependable.
- Casual gamer: Possibly, if 4K/60 is sufficient.
- PS5 or Xbox Series X owner: Prefer the B6E or another current 120Hz OLED.
- PC gamer: Choose the C6 or another OLED with 120Hz-or-better support and VRR.
- Bright-room buyer: Consider a brighter current OLED evo or Mini-LED TV.
- Long-term buyer: Prefer a current model with active retail support and newer gaming hardware.
Verdict
The LG A2 remains a potentially excellent picture-quality upgrade from an older LCD or LED television, especially for films and streaming. But it is not a universally smart 2026 purchase. LG’s discontinued status, 60Hz refresh rate, absent VRR, and HDMI 2.0 limitation make its value entirely dependent on an unusually low price and trustworthy seller protection.
