In the cited Lennox control manual, E118 means “Reset limit exceeded (Hard-Lockout).” It is recorded after the unit enters and is manually taken out of soft lockout six times within 15 minutes. The manual’s stated clearing step is a power cycle; if the alert returns or normal operation does not resume, have the system checked by a Lennox dealer or HVAC professional.
What Lennox E118 means
The Lennox diagnostic manual defines E118 as “Reset limit exceeded (Hard-Lockout).” It says the unit entered and was manually exited from soft lockout six times within a 15-minute interval. That threshold describes how this fault is triggered; it does not identify the original condition that caused the earlier soft lockouts.
See the Lennox control diagnostic codes manual for the E118 entry. The equipment model and control revision matter: this code guidance comes from a particular Lennox control manual and should not be assumed to apply identically to every Lennox furnace.
How to respond to E118
1. Confirm the code applies to your equipment
Check the furnace or system model label and its owner or control manual. Lennox’s product help and contact page provides a way to search product literature by category or model number. If you contact a dealer, share the model and the exact alert code.

- Installation Tip: To save yourself some hassle, please take a picture of the old one before removing it to ensure getting the wires on the correct terminals during replacement
- Safety Precautions: Always follow manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols when installing or replacing furnace components; disconnect power before servicing to ensure safe installation
2. Try the documented clearing action
The cited manual says to perform a power cycle to clear the fault condition. Follow the instructions for your specific system rather than guessing at electrical or control procedures. The manual does not say which earlier soft-lockout condition led to E118, so the code alone does not establish that a particular part has failed.
3. Get professional diagnosis if it persists
If E118 returns after the power cycle, or the system does not resume normal operation, record the alert and contact a Lennox dealer or qualified HVAC professional. Lennox’s troubleshooting FAQ advises recording alert or warning codes and contacting a dealer or Lennox when needed. You can use the Lennox dealer and product-help page to find the appropriate support route.

What E118 does—and does not—tell you
- It tells you: the cited control’s reset limit was exceeded after six manual exits from soft lockout in 15 minutes.
- It does not tell you: the underlying cause of those soft lockouts, which component is at fault, or whether a repair or replacement is needed.
- It does not establish: a typical repair cost or how often Lennox systems experience this alert.
Diagnosis of the recurring condition requires the correct model-specific service information and the system’s diagnostic history; E118 by itself is not a parts diagnosis.
