CTA’s planned Lake Street Bridge work will interrupt Green and Pink Line service from 4 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, through 4 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2026. Green Line riders should use shuttle buses between Clinton and Clark/Lake; Pink Line trains will terminate at Polk, with Blue Line connections downtown at Racine. Check CTA’s service notice before traveling in case the schedule or arrangements change.
What changes for Green Line riders
During the interruption, Green Line trains will run in two sections: Harlem/Lake to Clinton, and South Side terminals to the Loop. CTA will provide free shuttle buses between Clinton and Clark/Lake for the gap in rail service.
Green Line trains serving the Loop will make stops around the Loop, following the Orange Line direction and platforms. For the specific shuttle instructions and any updates, use CTA’s Lake Street Bridge notice.
What changes for Pink Line riders
Pink Line trains will run between 54th/Cermak and Polk rather than continuing through the affected segment. To continue downtown, transfer to the Blue Line at Racine.

For trips to or from Ashland, Morgan, Clinton, or the West Loop, CTA lists the #9/#X9 Ashland buses near Polk or Racine, as well as other north-south bus routes, as alternatives. CTA says the bus transfer is free when tapping. Check the notice for current route guidance.
Why the bridge work affects rail service
The interruption is planned to accommodate replacement of the bridge’s west leaf and other critical work. In a September 24, 2026, announcement, CDOT said the preassembled replacement leaf had been moved by barge ahead of its October installation. The announcement said rail service between Clinton and Clark/Lake would be suspended to allow the work.

Rail closure dates are not the full bridge-project schedule
The CTA rail interruption is scheduled to end at 4 a.m. October 26, 2026. That is separate from the wider bridge project: ABC7 reported a target of January 2028 for reopening the bridge to all traffic. That is a reported project target, not a guarantee or an extension of the CTA rail closure.
