“Lakshmi Cement & Ceramics” is not the legal issuer name identified in Indian exchange filings. The listed company this comparison normally means is JK Lakshmi Cement Limited (NSE: JKLAKSHMI; BSE scrip: 500380; ISIN: INE786A01032). It is a mid-sized, regionally concentrated cement producer, so the right comparison with UltraTech Cement, Ambuja Cements, Shree Cement, Dalmia Bharat and other peers is not simply “which has the lowest P/E.” Compare operating geography, capacity, utilisation, realisations, costs, balance-sheet risk, capital allocation and valuation on the same date.
This is an equity-research framework, not a buy or sell recommendation. Cement earnings can change quickly with construction demand, fuel, freight, monsoon conditions and local pricing.

What JK Lakshmi Cement actually is
JK Lakshmi Cement is a publicly traded Indian cement manufacturer. Its annual report describes operations in cement, clinker, ready-mix concrete (RMC) and fly-ash blocks across Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. That footprint matters because cement is expensive to transport: a plant can be competitive in its nearby markets and less competitive hundreds of kilometres away even when the national cement price is rising.
The company’s scale has expanded materially since its original Sirohi plant. The FY2022-23 annual report records starting capacity of 0.50 million tonnes in 1982 and reported capacity of 11.70 million tonnes. Those figures are historical disclosures, not a current capacity estimate; capacity should always be checked against the latest annual report and commissioning announcements.
#1 Best Overall
- MULTIPURPOSE: Basic building material for crafts, pavement, sidewalks, reinforced concrete buildings, masonry units, and more
- MIX AND USE: Use to create concrete, mortar, and stucco mixes
- GREAT FOR DIY PROJECTS: Ideal for small crafts with forms and silicone molds
- HIGH STRENGTH: Solid once dry, dry in 48 hours
- LESS IS MORE: One bag yields approximately .16 cu. ft.
JK Lakshmi’s annual report states: “JK Lakshmi Cement Limited (“the Company”) is domiciled and incorporated in India and its Shares are publicly traded on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).” The exchange listing gives investors national liquidity, but the operating economics remain tied to the states served by its plants and grinding units.
What the latest reported numbers say
For FY2025-26, the directors’ report shows sales and other income of ₹6,879.10 crore, compared with ₹6,245.70 crore in the preceding year. EBITDA before interest, depreciation, tax and exceptional items was ₹1,127.90 crore versus ₹918.27 crore. Reported profit after tax (PAT) was ₹430.34 crore versus ₹282.72 crore.
| JK Lakshmi measure | FY2025-26 | Previous year | Change calculated from reported figures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales and other income | ₹6,879.10 crore | ₹6,245.70 crore | Approximately +10.1% |
| EBITDA before interest, depreciation, tax and exceptional items | ₹1,127.90 crore | ₹918.27 crore | Approximately +22.8% |
| Reported PAT | ₹430.34 crore | ₹282.72 crore | Approximately +52.2% |
| EBITDA margin on sales and other income | Approximately 16.4% | Approximately 14.7% | Arithmetic based on the figures above |
| PAT margin on sales and other income | Approximately 6.3% | Approximately 4.5% | Arithmetic based on the figures above |
The margin calculations are simple ratios, not a substitute for a segment or tonne-level analysis. Confirm whether revenue is consolidated or standalone, and read the notes for exceptional items, one-off gains, subsidiary contributions and changes in accounting presentation before comparing it with another company.

Which Indian cement companies belong in the peer set?
Use a core peer group and an expanded group rather than forcing every listed producer into one ranking. The cited industry overview identifies UltraTech as the largest producer and places JK Lakshmi among mid-sized producers with approximately 2.8% of industry capacity at the beginning of FY2024. Ambuja Cements’ FY2025-26 integrated report gives consolidated capacity of 109 MTPA. These dates and definitions are different, so the figures should not be read as a single-date league table.
| Company | How to use it in the comparison | Scale or fact established in the cited material | Questions to verify in current filings |
|---|---|---|---|
| JK Lakshmi Cement | Regional, mid-sized reference case | Approximately 2.8% capacity share at the beginning of FY2024; 11.70 million tonnes reported in FY2022-23 | Current installed and effective capacity, plant-level utilisation, regional realisations and freight |
| UltraTech Cement | Largest-producer benchmark | Identified as the largest producer in the cited industry overview | Domestic versus overseas capacity, acquired-asset integration, utilisation and net debt |
| Ambuja Cements | Large-scale and expansion benchmark | 109 MTPA consolidated capacity reported for FY2025-26 | Commissioned lines, subsidiary consolidation, capex, utilisation and integration costs |
| Shree Cement | Large producer for efficiency and balance-sheet comparison | Comparable figures not stated in the cited material | Capacity, cost per tonne, cash generation and regional mix on the same fiscal basis |
| Dalmia Bharat | Large producer with a different geographic and product mix | Comparable figures not stated in the cited material | Organic additions, acquisitions, premium products and leverage |
| JK Cement | Useful related mid-to-large comparison | Comparable figures not stated in the cited material | White-cement exposure, grey-cement geography, utilisation and valuation |
| Ramco Cements, ACC, Nuvoco Vistas and JSW Cement | Regional, mid-cap or strategy-specific alternatives | Comparable figures not stated in the cited material | State exposure, capacity additions, parent or group relationships, debt and cash flow |
Do not compare a standalone JK Lakshmi number with a consolidated peer number. If a company reports subsidiaries, acquired plants or overseas operations, use the consolidated figure for every company or clearly label a separate standalone comparison.
Start with scale, plant configuration and geography
Capacity is only the first layer. Record installed cement capacity, clinker capacity, grinding capacity, the number and location of integrated plants and grinding units, and the share of capacity that is actually available during the period. Integrated plants make clinker and cement at one location; grinding units can be supplied with clinker from another plant or purchased externally. Two companies with identical cement capacity can therefore have very different fuel, power, freight and maintenance profiles.

Map each company’s dispatch markets rather than relying on a national label. For JK Lakshmi, the disclosed presence in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha makes lead distance and inter-state freight especially important. A regional producer may benefit when local demand is strong and competitors are distant, but it can be exposed to a downturn, new capacity or aggressive pricing in one cluster.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Separate installed capacity from effective capacity after shutdowns, debottlenecking, maintenance and ramp-up periods.
- Mark integrated, grinding, clinker and RMC assets on a state-by-state map.
- Estimate the weighted average dispatch distance and the proportion of sales made inside the company’s home regions.
- Identify whether a new plant serves a deficit market or adds supply to an already competitive corridor.
- Check whether capacity figures include subsidiaries and acquired assets.
Compare growth and utilisation on matching fiscal periods
“Fastest-growing” can mean higher sales, more tonnes, more capacity or better utilisation. Those are different outcomes. Use the same fiscal year for every company and distinguish organic additions from acquisitions.
- Measure volume growth. Use cement and clinker dispatches, not revenue alone. Revenue can rise because of price increases, product mix or consolidation without a comparable increase in tonnes.
- Record utilisation. Divide dispatched or produced tonnes by effective capacity for the same period. Explain whether the denominator is cement, clinker, integrated capacity or an analyst estimate.
- Track additions by type. Label each project greenfield, brownfield, debottlenecking, grinding-unit expansion or acquisition.
- Separate commissioning from ramp-up. A line commissioned near year-end cannot contribute a full year of volume.
- Calculate capex per added tonne. Use disclosed project capex divided by incremental annual capacity, and note whether the figure includes captive power, mines, logistics and working capital.
Ambuja’s 109 MTPA consolidated capacity reported for FY2025-26 is a current example of an expansion-led scale story, but capacity alone does not establish that it added the most profitable tonnes or the highest return on capital. The commissioning date, utilisation curve and financing should be checked before ranking growth.
Use a common profitability bridge
Revenue, EBITDA and PAT should be the starting line, not the finish line. A useful bridge explains how tonnes become cash earnings.
| Metric | Calculation | Why it matters | Qualification to carry with it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blended realisation per tonne | Revenue from cement and related products ÷ cement tonnes sold | Shows pricing and product mix | Keep trade, non-trade, RMC and other businesses separate where disclosed |
| EBITDA per tonne | Comparable EBITDA ÷ cement tonnes sold | Combines price, mix and operating cost | Use EBITDA before exceptional items and the same consolidated basis |
| Power and fuel cost per tonne | Power and fuel expense ÷ relevant tonnes | Shows sensitivity to coal, petcoke, electricity and waste-heat recovery | Check whether purchased clinker and captive power are included |
| Freight cost per tonne | Freight expense ÷ tonnes moved | Reveals geography and dispatch efficiency | Rail, road, lead distance and fuel contracts can change the result |
| PAT margin | PAT ÷ comparable revenue | Captures depreciation, interest and tax after operating performance | Inspect exceptional items, tax changes and subsidiary effects |
JK Lakshmi’s FY2025-26 EBITDA before interest, depreciation, tax and exceptional items was ₹1,127.90 crore. To calculate EBITDA per tonne, you still need the matching consolidated cement volume; dividing by capacity would be wrong because capacity is not the same as tonnes sold. The same discipline applies to every peer.

Separate price, mix and cost advantages
Higher EBITDA can come from stronger prices, a premium-product mix, lower fuel costs, lower freight, better utilisation or a combination. Ask management and filings for the bridge rather than attributing the entire change to “operating leverage.”
Rank #3
- Quikrete Concrete Mix Bag 10 Lbs.
Realisation and product mix
Record blended cement realisation, ordinary versus premium or value-added products, trade versus non-trade volumes, bulk versus bagged dispatches, and the contribution of RMC. JK Lakshmi’s annual report identifies RMC and fly-ash blocks alongside cement and clinker. Analyze those adjacencies separately so a higher-margin non-cement activity does not obscure core cement economics.
Energy
Power and fuel are often among the largest variable costs. Compare the fuel basket, imported versus domestic exposure, captive power, waste-heat recovery, renewable supply and the timing of price changes. A company with a temporary fuel-cost benefit may not have a structural margin advantage.
Freight and logistics
Freight can erase a plant-level cost advantage. Compare rail share, road lead distance, depot network, coastal or multimodal movement and the location of limestone, clinker and grinding assets. For JK Lakshmi, the multi-state footprint means regional freight disclosure is more informative than a national average.
Fixed-cost absorption
Utilisation spreads fixed quarry, plant, employee and maintenance costs across more tonnes. Compare utilisation with EBITDA per tonne; a high margin at low utilisation may be less durable than a slightly lower margin supported by consistently full assets.
Assess products and pricing power
A cement company’s brand strength should be tested through measurable mix and price data, not advertising claims. Examine the share of premium or blended products, bulk sales to infrastructure customers, dealer and trade exposure, and the ability to pass through fuel and freight increases.
- Premium products can lift realisation but may require marketing, distribution and quality-control spending.
- Trade sales may carry stronger brand pricing but can involve dealer incentives and credit requirements.
- Non-trade or institutional volumes can improve dispatch stability while producing different realisations.
- Blended cement can reduce clinker intensity and emissions, but its economics depend on supplementary materials, availability and local standards.
- RMC and fly-ash blocks diversify revenue but should be valued on their own utilisation, working-capital and margin profiles.
Compare mix changes year over year and identify whether reported improvement came from a permanent product shift or a temporary regional shortage.

Examine the balance sheet and capital allocation
Capacity expansion can create value only when returns exceed the cost of capital and the balance sheet can withstand a weak cycle. For every company, collect net debt, gross debt, interest expense, interest coverage, operating cash flow, maintenance capex, growth capex, acquisitions and integration costs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDebt and coverage
Use net debt to EBITDA together with interest coverage and operating cash flow. A low leverage ratio immediately after an equity raise or asset sale may not describe the balance sheet after a committed project. Include lease liabilities where material and distinguish recourse from non-recourse debt.
Maintenance versus growth spending
Maintenance capex keeps existing kilns, mines and grinding units operating; growth capex adds tonnes. If a company reports only total capex, do not assume all of it creates new capacity. Compare project spending with commissioning schedules and expected utilisation.
Acquisitions
Acquisitions can provide limestone reserves, brands, terminals and market access faster than greenfield construction. They also bring integration costs, environmental liabilities, working-capital needs and possible overpayment. Track the acquired company’s pre-acquisition capacity, subsequent utilisation and realised synergies.
Dividends
JK Lakshmi’s FY2025-26 directors’ report recommended a dividend of ₹6.50 per share, subject to shareholder approval. It should not be described as paid until a later filing confirms payment. Compare payout with free cash flow after maintenance capex, not PAT alone.

Valuation must use one as-of date
The available evidence does not provide a synchronized current table of share prices, market capitalisation, enterprise value, EV/EBITDA, P/E, price-to-book, dividend yield or free-cash-flow yield. Therefore it cannot establish which cement stock is cheapest or best valued.
Best Value
- MULTIPURPOSE: Basic building material for crafts, pavement, sidewalks, reinforced concrete buildings, masonry units, and more
- MIX AND USE: Use to create concrete, mortar, and stucco mixes
- GREAT FOR DIY PROJECTS: Ideal for small crafts with forms and silicone molds
- HIGH STRENGTH: Solid once dry, dry in 48 hours
- LESS IS MORE: One bag yields approximately .5 cu. ft.
Build the table yourself using one market close and one reporting date:
- Record closing share price and shares outstanding on the chosen date.
- Calculate equity value and add net debt, leases and minority interest to derive enterprise value.
- Use the same earnings period for every company: trailing twelve months, latest fiscal year or a clearly labelled forward estimate.
- Use EBITDA before exceptional items where possible, and state whether the denominator is consolidated.
- Compare P/E only after checking tax rates, depreciation, interest and exceptional items.
- Check price-to-book and free-cash-flow yield as secondary measures, especially during a heavy capex cycle.
- State the date, exchange, currency, fiscal period and data source beside every multiple.
A low multiple can signal cyclical peak earnings, high leverage, weak geography or a pending capex burden. A higher multiple can reflect stronger balance-sheet quality, premium mix, network density or confidence in growth. Valuation is an output of the operating comparison, not a replacement for it.
Is JK Lakshmi’s regional exposure a disadvantage?
Regional concentration is neither automatically good nor bad. It creates a clear set of trade-offs.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Potential benefit | Potential risk | What to measure |
|---|---|---|
| Shorter average lead distance in core markets | One regional downturn can affect a large share of volumes | State-wise sales, weighted lead and freight per tonne |
| Local brand and dealer relationships | New grinding units or competitors can trigger price pressure quickly | Market share, dealer incentives and regional realisations |
| Focused logistics and plant management | Plant outage or limestone disruption has a larger effect | Clinker security, backup supply and maintenance history |
| Opportunity to deepen an under-supplied corridor | Expansion may oversupply the same corridor | Regional demand, announced capacity and utilisation |
Large networks such as those of UltraTech or Ambuja can move clinker and cement between regions, smooth local shocks and integrate acquisitions. That flexibility has a cost: more assets, longer supply chains and potentially greater integration complexity. The correct question is whether JK Lakshmi’s regional returns and balance-sheet discipline compensate for lower diversification.
Which company is adding capacity fastest?
No single “fastest” ranking can be supported without synchronized project data. Ambuja’s 109 MTPA consolidated capacity in FY2025-26 demonstrates scale, but it does not by itself show the year-on-year addition, utilisation or return on the investment. For each candidate, create a project ledger with announced capacity, location, project type, expected commissioning, capex, funding source and current construction status.
Then test whether capacity growth is demand-led:
- Compare new tonnes with regional demand growth and existing utilisation.
- Check whether the project adds clinker, grinding or only debottlenecking.
- Estimate the freight advantage from the plant location.
- Review environmental approvals, limestone access and power arrangements.
- Measure post-commissioning ramp-up and return on invested capital.
A repeatable stock-comparison workflow
- Define the universe. Start with JK Lakshmi, UltraTech, Ambuja, Shree Cement and Dalmia Bharat; add JK Cement, Ramco Cements, ACC, Nuvoco Vistas and JSW Cement when regional exposure or mid-cap scale is relevant.
- Freeze the date. Select the fiscal year, market-close date and consolidated or standalone basis before collecting figures.
- Build the asset map. List integrated plants, clinker units, grinding units, RMC operations, states served and effective capacity.
- Collect operating data. Record tonnes sold, utilisation, realisation, EBITDA, EBITDA per tonne, power, fuel, freight and employee cost.
- Explain the change. Attribute margin movement to price, mix, fuel, freight, utilisation, acquisitions or exceptional items.
- Stress-test the cycle. Model lower prices, higher fuel, weaker utilisation and longer freight leads; note covenant and cash-flow effects.
- Review capital allocation. Separate maintenance capex, growth capex, acquisitions, debt repayment and dividends.
- Apply valuation. Calculate EV/EBITDA, P/E, price-to-book and free-cash-flow yield using the same date and earnings basis.
- Write the conclusion by investor objective. Distinguish scale, regional growth, cost efficiency, balance-sheet resilience and valuation instead of naming a universal winner.
Common comparison mistakes
- Calling a company “cheap” from a current P/E without stating the market date or whether earnings are cyclical peaks.
- Comparing capacity from different years or mixing domestic capacity with global or consolidated capacity.
- Dividing EBITDA by installed capacity instead of tonnes sold.
- Using standalone JK Lakshmi results against a consolidated peer.
- Ignoring exceptional items, acquisition accounting, depreciation and tax differences.
- Treating an announced project as commissioned capacity.
- Assuming higher realisation always means stronger pricing power when product mix or geography changed.
- Calling the recommended ₹6.50 JK Lakshmi dividend paid before shareholder approval and a later payment filing.
- Using national demand data to explain a company whose earnings are concentrated in a few states.
What a defensible conclusion looks like
A sound comparison can say, for example, that JK Lakshmi is a listed mid-sized producer with a multi-state but regionally concentrated footprint; that its reported FY2025-26 sales, EBITDA before exceptional items and PAT improved from the prior year; and that its investment case must be tested against larger network peers on utilisation, freight, product mix, leverage, capex and valuation. It cannot honestly declare JK Lakshmi “better” than UltraTech or Ambuja without a synchronized market-data set and a clearly stated investor objective.
Use the same dates, definitions and calculations for every company, then decide whether the attraction is regional operating leverage, premiumisation, expansion, cash generation, balance-sheet strength or a valuation discount. That process is more reliable than ranking cement stocks by size, one quarter of margin or an isolated P/E.
